Org Music Club Mix Tape #11: Narcotics for Narcopletics

http://8tracks.com/MagSyn...rcoleptics

  • (1) Michael & The Force - A Race Of Angels - Broadcast No.1

i can't remember which orger started a thread about them, but whoever it was linked AROA's website. On their site they streamed the Broadcast No.1 in it's entirety, I immediately fell in love with this track. i thought the urgency of this track would be a powerful way to start of the mix.

  • 2) Galaxy - Hippiehaus - Stars

i know nothing about this group, only that they come out of Germany. i got hip to this track on a comp, now it's become a mix tape standard (right Supa?). From what i could find on the group, i guess this is the best track they've ever made. i did buy their release after the Stars album it was drastically different from the sound of this track. oh and the version i really wanted to put on here didn't have that out of place guitar intro, but it was part of a mix that goes into another song and well, it would've sounded weird.

  • 3) Neon - The Knife - The Knife

well, i think The Knife fans here will dig this track. i'm absolutely in love with the singer's voice. i just discovered this track by them. i'd been holding out on going backwards in their catalog, not that i had a long way to go lol but i thought i'd be disappointed with their first release, but i was wrong. this track is my favorite from their debut.

  • (4) Hold My Breath - Milosh - III

for the record, i wanted to place Moloko's Bankrupt Emotionally in this spot. unfortunately, i was drinking when i compiled this....

Now this guy, i don't know what to say... he's definitely unique. don't get me wrong, but it can be hard to differentiate his songs, since they all seem to have the same vibe and vocal styling. but i can't deny the fact that i like his latest album and his first two. he's got that one man band thing going on. i never checked the notes to see if he does his own production, if he does, he should seek out a producer, then i think his stuff would be great. I know it may seem strange, but when i listen to his music in the dark really low, then i hear the magic.

  • (5) Smile - Dzihan & Kamien - Freaks & Icons

whew!! what can i say about this track that you can't hear for yourself? sometimes, when i hear this song, i want to find the nearest cliff standing over the ocean take running start, jump and fly for the rest of eternity. stoned

  • (6) Paper Areoplane - Angus & Julius Stone - Hotel Costes X

don't know much about these guys, i stumbled over this song on a Hotel Costes comp. simple, soulful, beautiful.

  • (7) Internacional - Brazilian Girls New York City

The Brazilian girls, don'tchoolik'em? love the Middle Eastern/African vocalist. sounds like Yossou N' Dour, i would say Nusrat Fetah Ali Kahn, but he's dead, right?

  • (8) Hold Us Down - Rae & Christian - Nocturanl Activity ( Sleepwalking Remixed)

    A familiar anthem?

  • (9) 100% - Moloko - Statues

Ok. If anyone has paid attention to me here in Music- Non-Prince they'd know I'm a huge Moloko fan. Unfortunately this song is off of what may be their last album. Roisin went on to do her solo thing, which is good, but I don't think it will ever be superior to her work with her former band. I love the horn arrangements in this tune, actually I love everything about it. And it really does sound like the band is giving a 100%.

  • (10) Too Young - Phoenix - United

A friend hipped me to this track on a mix. All this time I was convinced it came out in the 80's but after researching this tune it's really from 2000. I like it's nice plush and fresh it sound, perfect tune for the upcoming season. The other songs I heard by this group weren't as impressive.

  • (11 Bonus track biggrin) Birds Of A Feather Herbert - Scales

Alright, I know I'm one over. And I don't know if it really fits, I was trying to working it somewhere in the mix. Thought it might fit after 100%, but Too Young seemed to work better at the time. And I guess I always find a way to sabotage a mix because there's another song I like a bunch and want the listener to hear even though it doesn't fit. confused

Anyways, I 'm a huge fan of Herbert. I got hip to him through some remixes he did for Moloko. though I wasn't blown away by his Moloko remixes I was truly intriqued by his other mixes. After hearing 2nd hand sounds a collection of mixes by him, I've been a fan ever since. I really like the vocalists he uses on his tracks. Dani Siciliano seems to be his favorite vocalist to work with. I was surpised to hear that he was classically trained, but after hearing the album this tune appeared on ( Scales) it all made sense. His string arrangements reminds me of Clare Fischer, but that's just me. : ) He's also done work within the Jazz realm. He actually tried fusing electronica and Jazz together and almost made it work. lol

S7/ liner note Edit.

i really wanted to go all out for this mix, but my time was short it being the end of quarter at my company.

i was even gonna transfer some file over from vinyl, i was hyped! but working 7 days a week for the last 3 weeks has prevented this, so i'll have to make preparations for the next time (if there's one) it's my turn.

Where are the liner notes? I wanna know what I'm in for when I listen!

You should put "Org Music Club" in the thread title so people know it's one of our threads and not some junk. razz

Maybe not notes so much as the tracklist. I hate surprises! mad lol

Seriously, if the song order is important then maybe it would be good to post it since people are claiming that 8Tracks changes the order randomly.

Already have the Hannah Med H soundtrack.

Kino always gets a HUGE repsonse live, btw. I love ALL their albums. The Knife's Silent Shout is probably the album that grinded (ground?) itself deepest into my soul of all the music of the last decade.

I am happy to report that 8track actually worked today and it played the tracks IN ORDER! biggrin I was able to confirm this because of your due diligence in listing the track order lol

  • Michael and the Force - A Race of Angels
There is something about the synth that is a fakeout. I kept expecting it to shift into a more uplifting sound and there is one note that hints to that but it is just a glance. In a book I once read, there was this young girl that glimpsed the tips of furiously beating angel wings from her peripheral vision. It was just enough so she knew they were there and that she was safe….. It's a glimpse of the promised land at the end of extreme toiling. Those are the things I think of when I hear that note. LOVE. THIS. TRACK exclaim (Angelic anaology is completely coincidental lol )

  • Galaxy - Hippiehaus
Love how this went from Honky Tonk ghetto hell to twinkling lights falloff What a cute cute CUTE song mushy

  • Neon - The Knife
Of course, I love this because of the image I have of this broad. She's like a grown baby lol Never learned how to speak beyond the babble. But she's probably non American and I'll get accused of mocking someone's accent confused lol It's all about her voice and I adore it smile Oh yeah, that chick from Mad TV, the japanese girl with the bowl haircut. Reminds me of her too touched lol OK, "Neon, when you come on home". When this part happens, it reminds me of Kate Bush, which I still have yet to explore. boxed But something about that transition reminds me of her. nod

  • Hold My Breath - Milosh
love heart worship This is a man right? Love the softness of his voice if it is. This is so my style. Full of meaning, emotion, sounds cascading all over mushy

  • Smile - Dzihan & Kamien
I have to come back to this. Love it but I got sidetracked and you can't pause 8 track! mad OK, I have since signed up and figured out how to pause and skip! biggrin Ok, I have come back to this. mushy This song is Rapturous.

  • Paper Aeroplane - Angus & Julius Stone
This reminds me of something and it's really bothering me because I can hear the melody of the other song in my head and I'm blanking the hell out! lol

Now that I've had time to think about it there is something about the melody that reminds me of Bob Seger's "Still the One" lol Seriously, check out the song and hopefully you'll hear what I hear. It vexed me all morning! mad There is also something very Radiohead about the melody. Can't place it though. OK, the first part reminds me of Creep! that's the radiohead connection. But I feel there is something beyond those 2 connections and it is going to drive me wild nuts lol

  • Internacional - Brazillian Girls
I can love this tune in ONE NOTE! worship Damn! clapping Of course, this had me from preinstant! clapping Like even in the womb, before I could see I SAW biggrin

  • Hold Us Down - (Faze Action Remix) Rae & Christian
I have some of their stuff! biggrin I am sure you have heard of this series of discs but if not you MUST check them out exclaim Ever heard of Anotherlatenight or Back to Mine? They are basically mix discs but specifically mixed/chosen by one artist. Rae & Christian has one in the "anotherlatenight" series. I think there is one more in that type of vein, like After Hours or something like that but I can't think of it right now.

Well what I will say abou this track is that I truly detest Jamaican music. JUST. DON'T. FEEL. IT and so many people fake their way through this shit it makes my skin crawl. Like Prince using that Scrap dude in I Rock Therefore I am. I don't even care if he's genuine fresh from the island, the fact that Prince tried to jock that style just rubs me wrong. Bob Marley is really where it should all begin and end lol Coming from Rae & Christian, I'm not surprised I'm able to digest this biggrin

  • 100% - Moloko This is the first track I've heard aside from their really popular "fun for me". Hear people praising them all the time and I think I really should explore them more nod I didn't know that a chick sang. Thought this was a male fronted group.

  • Too Young - Phoenix This song is liberating. Absolutely freeing.

  • Birds of a Feather - Herbert Excellent Closer. Digital Ballerinas, that's what this song is nod

Well, for a lack of effort I love the hell out of this mix biggrin lol And once again, I haven't heard of any of these artists except for 2, nor any of the songs confused & clapping Interesting choice of Mosque as your image. Beautiful, stunning, glorious and despite all that, completely misunderstood by the masses. I think that perfectly describes you as well smile

I will take this moment to sing your praises. You are honestly one person that I feel so very close to. Not because we have shared the grandness of either of our designs but there is just something unspoken and understood that I feel with you. If you don't feel it back, oh well. I do lol I look to you as a sort of musical messiah. Our tastes seem to be very similar and even though I have none of this stuff, had I been exposed to this music they would be songs I would have in my collection. When I am not trying to rape you, this is how I feel about you batting eyes

And honestly, had you not said anything I would have thought this was your perfect mix exclaim You must let me hear your original intention! lol Awesome mix hug

nice analogy. everytime i hear this song i have visions of being on a mountain somewhere and watching an overcast sky turn perfect blue with a couple of cumulus clouds. smile

  • Galaxy - Hippiehaus
Love how this went from Honky Tonk ghetto hell to twinkling lights falloff What a cute cute CUTE song mushy

  • that guitar ruins the whole flow! mad i should've just put the mixed version on this comp.

  • Neon - The Knife

  • there's something supernatural about her voice, i can't put my finger on it. it's neither sexy or ugly. there's something dark and beautiful about it. hmmm she's within my top five female pop vocalist.

  • Hold My Breath - Milosh
love heart worship This is a man right? Love the softness of his voice if it is. This is so my style. Full of meaning, emotion, sounds cascading all over mushy

  • yeah, it's a guy. his voice is so gentle and smooth, almost too sugary. lol very emotional, almost like he takes E with his vitamins.

  • Paper Aeroplane - Angus & Julius Stone

  • Damn! eek

Sabine is another one of my favorite vocalist! i'll be seeing them live next month! woot!

  • Aww come on! You truly detest Jamaican music? i understand what you mean when somebody's jafaicning it, but to detest all of it? hmph!

yeah, i'm a fan of the Anotherlatenight series. i even have the Rae & Christian one. I like it, though i haven't heard one that can beat Zero 7's yet. smile

  • 100% - Moloko This is the first track I've heard aside from their really popular "fun for me". Hear people praising them all the time and I think I really should explore them more nod I didn't know that a chick sang. Thought this was a male fronted group.

that mosque has been a muse for me this past week. i had to write a paper on it recently pointing out it's design principles. i chose because it seems if i were to walk through that door, i'll be walking into paradise. and you're right, i'm completely misunderstood by the masses.
