wham! or george michael, actually played live and sang live at concerts, not lip synched. they did on tv shows like top of the pops, but so did most other people. both wham! and duran duran were proper bands who played live (altho in the studio george michael did a lot more and andrew ridgely did hardly anything as he was "guitarist" and did no vocals either in the studio or live, and didn't even pretend to or mime)

i'd say milli vanilli is prime candidate, followed by madonna, britney spears and michael jackson, in that order mainly because madonna has been doing it the longest, britney has mostly done it, and MJ hasn't done jack shit in ages

Wham or George Michael never lip synched on live concerts, only for TV shows. GM had some pre recorded background vocals on his Faith tour during Monkey.

The answer is quite obvious here: Milli Vanilli. After all, their career ended because they were busted for lip synching, yes?

ABBA

Although the band always perform live in all of their concert tours, they always lip-synch in all of the television appearances.

Expose & The Cover Girls lip-synced in all of those except for Showtime At The Apollo.

Very true, i remember being very impressed with FINALLY getting to hear them sing live on a tv show, i think people really forget that no one really ever played on these shows live but were good live performers for the most part. Todays thing that gets me is the lack of people having live bands behind them and also singing along to their own record and pre-recorded live backing track.

How did TLC make this list, but Ashlee Simpson didn't? neutral She got caught lip-synching just like Milli Vanilli did. The only difference between the two is that Milli Vanilli weren't even lip-syncing to their own voices and Ashlee unfortunately was.. So, in saying that, I'd say:

My Top 5 most known lip-syncers:

1)Milli Vanilli
2)Ashlee Simpson
3)Britney Spears
4)Madonna
5)Jennifer Lopez

If we are talking TV then list everyone from Abba to ZZtop, and yes prince has done his fair share including the entire Emancipation era tv appearances all for the most part were lip synched, even the award shows, and the Chris Rock show. As for concerts, a very good % of pop artists use pre-recorded music and vocal tracks, Mariah Carey needs to be added to this list too, infamous for adding in high notes that she isnt singing live

Milli Vanilli or Ashlee Simpson
However, I think Ashlee's music career is kinda over..as far as mainstream
goes. (Sure, she might still have an audience but I don't think her last
album did very well. Or it could have - and I simply didn't care.)

But the number 1 spot has to go to Milli Vanilli. End of story.

Mariah's on there. nod Yeah, I hate when artists would rather sing over a backing track, than just get good back-up singers to accompany them. Honestly, the fact that they insist on calling that nonsense 'live', is really what pisses me off more than anything. Just because I can reach out and actually touch you doesn't mean that you can misuse the word, 'live' because you think that you're hot shit.. I can listen to the album at home and watch the videos on Youtube for free and save the ticket money if that's the case.

Mariah used to have great back-up singers, especially on the 'MTV Unplugged' drooling , but I guess she doesn't want to pay more people...well, I take that back, because Mariah don't dance so she isn't paying 11 back-up dancers like some artists who use backing tracks insist on doing; and, I don't think she's really shelling out money on elaborate stage designs or pyrotecnics...yeah, MC doesn't have an excuse for that shit, but neither do the other ones IMO. lol I don't care how hard it is to sing and dance at the same time, it's been done by lots of artists throughout history, so some entertainers need to admit to themselves that they really aren't all that and a bag of chips after everything is all said and done. Every artist is guilty of 'loud backing tracks' at some point in their careers, but many of them stop at some point...the ones with real musical abilities anyway.
