i think its a good cd. it is not close to velvet rope or damita jo but i like it as much as janet and far more than 20 yo, which i never did come to appreciate. MY TWO CENTS:
- I think the album has some strong uptempo tracks - I'm loving "so muuch better" - the daft punk thing is great. - the ballads are quite weak compared to her previous albums; "with you", "i'm here", "i want you", "thinking about me ex" are much more favourable with me - discipline is nice but "take care" knocks the s*** out of it My opinions may change because i've only listened to the album twice. BTW: "LUV" is the way to go for the next single, radio friendly all over it! [Edited 2/28/08 14:38pm] | |

During the janet tour it was obvious that he had a role, especially when it came to her vision and image, and helping her to express that visually and creatively. I don't know about Control, to me that was janet, Jimmy and Terry, but there is no way anyone can say that Rene did or did not help her out. I would tend to believe Rene because since the Velvet Rope its been the same-o same-o routine, and for some reason I can't get over the fact that she did not write any songs on this album. Maybe its no biggy but its weird. We'll never really know. | |

Who cares if Janet doesn't write her own songs?
At one point, I think if people enjoy her music (it's hers in a since that she's the one who'll receive the criticism as well as the praise if a hit or a flop), then it's all good for her fans. I don't care if she's not Bob Dylan. I don't even expect her to be Vanessa Paradis! (I think Vanessa is WONDERFUL, and thanks to some here for the recommendations. ) I just expect Janet to be equally wonderful in her own way. Why can't someone just be an entertainer? I think Janet is an excellent entertainer and personality. I just think she's out there to entertain us at this point in her career. [Edited 2/29/08 8:23am] | |

I don't have the liner notes in front of me- but it is my belief that Rene was acknowledged for his contributions on Janet and the Velvet Rope. Even on RN interviews all she talked about is how Rene introduced her to these kids in need of help and how she wanted to do sohave a social awareness concept to the album and he was always there talking about his vision for the "short films", etc. I don't think she snubbed him at all- his hands were on everything from the tour concepts and her breasts on the cover of the album. LOVE HARD. | |

On Larry King last night, he addressed the fact that Janet did not write this album. She said that the record company recommended writers and producers. She said that these writers and producers let her listen to the trax and she liked them.
