Mom was not allowed to attend concerts when she lived in Evansville, In. When she moved out to San Francisco after she graduated high school, it was on. She went to few of these shows when I was a young thang. Dad babysat those nights. lol

Ike & Tina Turner
Phyllis Hyman
The Whispers
The Temptations & Four Tops (Circle Star Theater)
Lou Rawls
Aretha Franklin
James Brown
Tower of Power - 1971
Jennifer Holliday
Luther Vandross (first time with a friend)

As for dad, she knows he went to alot of them, especially since he grew up across the street from The Cow Palace. I need to ask my uncle.

Winterland (need to research this one) lineup included:
Jimi Hendrix and Sly & the Family Stone
The Beatles (he told me the story about working at The Cow Palace)
The Temptations
The Four Tops

I went with mom around '86 or '87 to see Luther Vandross. There have been a few concerts within the past few years like Stone Soul Picnic and various other multi-act shows feat. The Isley Brothers, Teena Marie, Rick James, The Dells, The Whispers, S.O.S. Band, Chaka Khan, The Gap Band, War, The Brothers Johnson, Bobby Womack and many others

The whole family went to see Earth Wind & Fire.

Mom couldn't answer most and least favorite. She has to think about it. I caught her as she was heading back to church for BTU. lol

they are my big cousins

Can I ask how old is your father. confused If he saw Ray Charles before he became famous, that is a long, long time ago. lol

And for those parents who went to see the J5, how old were they when they went to see them? Because I can't really imagine peeps in their 20s and 30s going to see the J5 when they first started out.

Actually I did go with my parents to see Prince on the Musicology tour. It was when the general sale tickets for one of the Madison Square Garden shows went on sale before the presale tickets for NPGMC members. I bought crappy seats not wanting to be shut out and then was notified about the post-presale so I bought tickets again and gave the first pair of tickets to my parents while my brother and I sat in the first row.

Same thing with me.... I gave my mother my ticketmaster purchased tickets and i used the NPGMC tickets

I remember my late father mentioning a few gigs he attended in the North West of England in the late 50's/early 60's:

Little Richard (a pre-fame Beatles supported on a few dates of this tour but my dad didn't recall seeing them)
Jerry Lee Lewis (My first ever gig was a Jerry Lee concert which my dad took me to, circa 1976)
Sammy Davis Jr (Palace Theatre, Manchester)
Ray Charles
Howlin' Wolf (small club gig)
Miles Davis (as part of a Jazz & Blues festival at Belle Vue, Manchester. Other artists unknown)

My mother has seen a few live concerts, including:
The Stylistics
Dr Hook
Demis Roussos
Paul McCartney

I suppose it's why I have such broad musical tastes. We always had music playing in the house when I was growing up. From my dad I got into Rock & Roll, Blues and Jazz. From my mum I took pop and soul. Mix all that up with getting into music in 1979 during the punk/new wave/2 Tone era and you get quite an eclectic mix wink

My mom took me to see BB King when I was 12...she knew what she was exposing me too. I make it a point to see him when he comes through town every year.

While my mom didn't take me to or go to, tons of concerts, she exposed me to music from the time I could speak and listened to everything from folk, country, funk all the way to Sabbath.

rose thanks mom, I'll love you forever

I feel so proud of my Grandfather playing with the King Curtis band. During their tour in 1965, he got to open for The Beatles and the relatively unknown Rolling Stones.

I don't really know about my father, but I can tell you the concerts that my Mother's been to see:

The Jackson 5 (she said she touched Jermaine's hand. giggle)
Billy Squier and Def Leppard (she said Def kicked Billy's ass that night)
The Police
RATT, I think. hmmm
She claimed that she saw "all them Punk and New Wave acts downtown like Blondie and The Ramones and stuff."
David Bowie with Squeeze (the Glass Spider tour)
Prince (4 times I believe)
Living Colour
Tina Turner
10,000 Maniacs
George Clinton and P-Funk
Jamiroquai (she's nuts about Jay K. lol)
She also went to see that Funk festival that Sinbad used to host out in the Carribean (Aruba, I believe). I forgot who performed though. shrug

I've joined my mom on a few concerts too:

Al Green
Gil Scott-Heron
The Time/The Gap Band
War
Ohio Players
Mandrill
this all-star show with, like, Luther Vandross and stuff. I forgot who else played. This was about 15 years ago. hmmm
Oh yes, and lest we forget the Prince taping on Good Morning America last year. (My first Prince show, her 4th).
