There is more to Eminem than i realised

Last week if u asked me about Eminem i would have said he's a talentless bastard who is clogging up the charts with his half wit, full o' shit, crappy old songs.

But just read these lyrics...

Eminem is a very clever man, "As a lyrcist only!" lol

"I'm supposed to be the soldier who never blows his composure
Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders
I am never supposed to show it, my crew ain't supposed to know it
Even if it means goin' toe to toe with a Benzino it don't matter
I'd never drag them in battles that I can handle unless I absolutely have to
I'm supposed to set an example
I need to be the leader, my crew looks for me to guide 'em
If some shit ever just pop off, I'm supposed to be beside 'em
That Ja shit I tried to squash it, it was too late to stop it
There's a certain line you just don't cross and he crossed it
I heard him say hailie`s name on a song and I just lost it
It was crazy, this shit went way beyond some Jay-Z and Nas shit
And even though the battle was won, I feel like we lost it
I spent too much energy on it, honestly I'm exhausted
And I'm so caught in it I almost feel I'm the one who caused it
This ain't what I'm in hip-hop for, it's not why I got in it
That was never my object for someone to get killed
Why would I wanna destroy something I help build
It wasn't my intentions, my intentions were good
I went through my whole career without ever mentionin' Suge <-- not said
Now it's just out of respect for not runnin' my mouth
And talkin' about something that I knew nothing about
Plus Dre told me stay out, this just wasn't my beef
So I did, I just fell back, watched and gritted my teeth
While he's all over TV Down talkin' a man who literally saved my life
Like fuck it I understand this is business
And this shit just isn't none of my business
But still knowin' this shit could pop off at any minute cuz
[Chorus]
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left
We all fall down like toy soldiers
Bit by bit, torn apart, we never win
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers

[Verse 2]
There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme
And wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin'
But now it's elevated cuz once you put someone's kids in it
The shit gets escalated, it ain't just words no more is it?
It's a different ball game, callin' names and you ain't just rappin'
We actually tried to stop the 50 and Ja beef from happenin'
Me and Dre had sat with him, kicked it and had a chat with him
And asked him not to start it he wasn't gonna go after him
Until Ja started yappin' in magazines how we stabbed him
Fuck it 50 smash 'em, mash 'em and let him have it
Meanwhile my attention is pullin' in another direction
Some receptionist at The Source who answers phones at his desk
Has an erection for me and thinks that I'll be his resurrection
Tries to blow the dust off his mic and make a new record
But now he's fucked the game up cuz one of the ways I came up
Was through that publication the same one that made me famous
Now the owner of it has got a grudge against me for nothin'
Well fuck it, that motherfucker can get it too, fuck him then
But I'm so busy being pissed off I don't stop to think
That we just inherited 50's beef with Murder Inc.
And he's inherited mine which is fine ain't like either of us mind
We still have soldiers that's on the front line
That's willing to die for us as soon as we give the orders
Never to extort us, strictly to show they support us
We'll maybe shout 'em out in a rap or up in a chorus
To show them we love 'em back and let 'em know how important it is
To have Runyon Avenue soldiers up in our corners
Their loyalty to us is worth more than any award is
But I ain't tryna have none of my people hurt and murdered
It ain't worth it, I can't think of a perfecter way to word it
Then to just say that I love ya'll too much to see the virdict
I'll walk away from it all before I let it go any further
But don't get it twisted, it's not a plea that I'm coppin'
I'm just willin' to be the bigger man
If ya'll can quit poppin' off at your jaws well then i can
Cause frankly I'm sick of talkin'
I'm not gonna let someone elses coffin rest on my conscience cause..."

Many people hate Eminem because he's white and can rap! I'm not a huge fan of him or rap music, but I've heard many people say he's shit and has only sold millions because he's white. Some people can't stand the fact that he's better at what he does that many of the rap artists out there today. I'm not saying he's the best, but he's damn good at it whether you like the guy or not.

Eminem is an incredibly talented writer. Yes, he is white in a genre which is dominated by blacks but he is still as prolific as some of the best black writers in the game. I take nothing away from Mr. Mathers. He is the real deal. Trust me, I know where hes from. He is not a poser.

I like some of his writing. Not a fan of his music or persona, though.

I'm an oldschool hip-hop fan from the south side of Chicago...I count Rakim, Nas, Jay-Z, KRS-One, Notorious BIG, and Tupac (for his emtotion) among the best MC's to ever touch a mic. And I would add Eminem on that list...Glove my man, there's no reason to apologize about giving the white boy his props...Although I think he needs to stop producing himself on every fucking track and let Dr. Dre handle it, Eminem is one of the most gifted lyricist of all time, period...

I hate Eminem because he used "nigger bitch" to describe an ex-girlfriend. Period.

I hate talk like that too, but he is not the first to say things like that and unfortunately he won't be the last either. People in the rap/hip/hop world think they can use words like that to describe women whenever they like. It's an awful way to speak of anyone, let alone a woman. Perhaps if the black folks would stop using the word, so would many others.

People take a crap on Eminem because the media acts like he invented rap. HE's gotten a lot of passes on things that others would've been grilled on. Those racist tapes would have gotten the average celeb in a lot of trouble. A rehab stay for the average celeb would have had the media taking shots for days. That last album Encore would have been trashed by critics coming from any of Em's peers. He's the only rapper I know that can make songs like Big Weenie, Ass Like That, Just Lose It, and still be hailed a genious. Eminem is far from being abused and treated unkindly by the public at large.

Hey, I wasn't digging the shit either...until I found out that Em was 17 years old when he made the tape that was circulated three years ago...There's a reason why a lot of the MC's did not get on the white boy about it...They understood the situation...Now if he got on his Aftermath debut and said that shit then I think MC's would tear him a new asshole...

Yes, at times he get's too much props among novice fans who think he invented hip-hop (The Elvis syndrome) But!!!!! You can't take nothing away from the man's talent and lyrical gifts....He is one of the best MC's of his era...Just google the words to two songs..."Stan" and "Renegade"....

So what? That doesnt mean that he isnt a fantastic writer. He also wrote Stan, Lose Yourself and Cleaning Out My Closet. Whats your point?

Yes, it does a FANTASTIC writer in my mind is consistent. That's something Em hasn't proven to be.

I hate Eminem because he used "nigger bitch" to describe an ex-girlfriend. Period.

I really don't care how old he was. Kids in elementary school know not to use that word. He, at 17, knew not to use that word. It was in his heart. I bought the Slim Shady LP and loved him then. I didn't buy any other albums because he was just over-hyped at that point, but I will admit he is talented however I cannot stand behind him because of this. Also, he changed his style from talking about himself and his fucked up life situations to talking about other people just for shock value. I wasn't cool with that.

Look...I would punch a motherfucker in the face for saying some shit like that to me...But if you are going to shit on someone for something they said when they was a teenager, then I think you are going a bit overboard...There's a reason why teenagers are not treated as adults in our society...There's a reason why a 16-year-old kid who commits, let's say, murder, doesn't get the chair...Not taking up for the white boy...There are plenty of things you can shit on Eminem about. How about the fact that other MC's over the years like Pharoahe Monch would never be able to release a complex, concept song like "STAN" and have it become a crossover hit; not to mention that Eminem receives radio airplay on rock stations and he's far from rock)...What he said on a tape when he wasn't even 21 is not one of them...And for the record...i think you need to do your homework on dude...He was talking about other folks on his first album on the single "My Name Is"...Just say you don't like the dude...I can respect that instead of making misinformed statements...

Let me re-phrase: He wasn't talking about other famous people as much on the Slim Shady LP. His attacks were more to himself and his family. I have the fucking album. "My Name is" is simply a song for shock value

Also if you want to be pissed at me for being offended by what he said, that's on you. I have the right to be offended. I don't have to forgive him for his youth and to your statement about children not getting the chair, that may be so, but there are children who are tried as adults often. i'm not dissing you for loving him so diss me for hating him

Eminem is okay, I think he was and still is overhyped, just like Elvis was, and just like the Beastie Boys and Vanilla Ice was before him. I think people suck up to him so much because he's a white guy who can rap. Does this sound racist? So what, it's the truth, that's the music industry for ya. But his lyrics and subject matter isn't unlike other rappers who tell profound stories. I think the only thing I like about Eminem is that he knows all of this, he's not a stupid man.

Nobody is pissed at you...I'm not an Eminem fanboy...I'm just pointing out that you were incorrect for stating that the white boy started talking about people after the first album...Bottom line is I'm not that much of a huge Eminem fan...But I'm a fan of lyrical skills...I thought by posting the info about Pharohe Monch would clue you in to what I'm all about (look up the guy and you will see what I was getting at)...Nobody was trying to belittle you or diss...Just trying to correct you.....To me it seems you are looking for somewhat weak reasons (please don't take this as a diss; I think you raise some interesting points) to hate the guy when there are a lot of other more valid reasons to be offended such as the man getting embraced as the only hip-hop artist that really matters...Cool?
