Definitely Arctic Monkeys. They're worth getting very excited about. I also cannot stress the importance of going to see a Jamie Lidell show. Not really a new artist but pretty cult all the same. His live shows will blow your mind.

lotsa artists that were new to ME this year, but that's more due to my slowness than their newness.

closest to 'best new artist' i can think of is clap your hands say yeah - i'm fairly certain they're 2005 newbies.

i know someone's gonna be all indie-nazi and correct me but...

wolf parade are the best new band i've heard since the arcade fire. i look forward to hearing more from them. i know they had an ep out before 2005 but their lp is from '05 i think. and there's a nasty rumour they'll be performing somewhere in chicago on new year's eve.

Pitty Sing. Incredible new wave flavored rock band.

Anyone interested, check out the track "We're On Drugs" - available on iTunes. It is the high point of a fantastic and overlooked album.

The best new artist is either MIA or Anthony Heggarty - I know he's been around a bit, but he's at last received the recognition he deserves.
