ABC World News Tonight had a lot of footage, and a follow up in the studio w/ a reporter who had been on the case since day one.

One interesting note: They showed a bank bag with the word "OPIUM" on it, found in the vault. But behind that in the photo are tapes of "Crucial", "Cocoa ...", "Housequake", "Can I Play With U?" and "A Couple of Miles".

It was a light blue bank bag.

Did I say anything opposite of that? Don't care about the color. razz But you are right. It was blue.

To the other person saying Prince wouldn't have done that - get out of the purple clouds. There were multiple bags they showed full of drugs. That was just one of them. Drug users, even those who secretly get prescription drugs, have a shame about it and hide it. Even more, if you have some mythological image of being 100% drug-free for 57 years.

Have the authorities mentioned anything about opium being found?

The "Opium" bag could also have been a prop for a video. There was no mention of any substance other than fentanyl in the autopsy was there? And since the attorney broke down exactly how many of each pill was in Paisley Park and where exactly they were found, it would be odd for him not to mention "Oh yeah, there was also a giant bank bag of opium marked 'OPIUM'".

The newly released materials (as reported in the AP) say that in Moline "Prince was taken to a hospital for monitoring. A nurse told detectives that he refused routine overdose testing that would have included blood and urine tests....The nurse said when Prince was asked what he had taken, he didn’t tell the nurse what it was but said “someone gave it to him to relax.” The attorney in the press release said that his pills also weren't testedin Moline.

-

So that means he (and everyone else) wouldn't have known what opioid caused his Moline OD and wouldn't have known that his drug supply was tainted with fentanyl.

Yes, but it was reported that Prince was at the hospital for several hours and his plane did not depart Moline until 11:30AM, the following morning (as I recall). That was more than enough time for Prince to be conscious of what was going on.

.

It's also interesting that the M.E. concluded his death was due to Fentanyl Toxicity, which is only discovered if the M.E. is looking for it.

.

If Prince overdosed on illegal Fentanyl in Moline, why wasn't he being investigated by the authorities for consuming an illegal drug?

.

Beyond weird.

The police wont do amything if somebody has comsumed an illegal drug, they can only charge you with posession of said drug. Obviously the police didnt find anything illegal on Prince in Moline.

Drug users don't mark their bags, this whole opium freak-out is ridiculous. All the other names on bags are not names of drugs. WTH? And they didn't FIND opium, as someone pointed out. His body could have been moved before the footage was taken, too.

This is what today told us. They don't think he knew it was fentanyl, the pills looked like vicodin. They don't know where he got the pills, so no one is being charged. The doctor is paying a fine and probation for writing an oxycodone script for Prince in Kirks name.

This has a timeline for today and there are some details.

That's a great link. Thanks Disch. Found this on it.

A friend of Prince’s who authorities said helped the pop superstar obtain pain medication says he’s relieved not to be charged in Prince’s death.

That’s according to F. Clayton Tyler, an attorney for the Prince friend, Kirk Johnson. Tyler says Thursday’s announcement by a state prosecutor that no criminal charges would be filed in Prince’s death affirms Johnson’s innocence.

Tyler says Johnson continues to deny that he had anything to do with Prince’s death.

A search warrant in the case said Johnson asked a doctor to prescribe pain medication for Prince, and the doctor prescribed oxycodone in Johnson’s name. Federal authorities said earlier Thursday that the doctor had agreed to pay a civil penalty to resolve the case.

So it looks like kj is relieved....of course he is.

There also photos inside his legendary vault showing recordings, large sums of cash and recording equipment stacked on shelves.

One pic shows a white powdery substance spilled out on a table with a bent spoon placed next to it.

This photo is confusing and disturbing to me, and I can't even know what to say about the white substance... but for whatever it's worth that spoon with the cherry looks like a mini replica of the famous spoon and cherry sculpture outside the Walker Art Center in downtown Minneapolis.

It's looking more like full blown addiction and not soley pain management gone awry. He probably tried to ween himself off and suffered extreme, debilitating withdrawals. That's the thing with addiction, the drug becomes the user's medicine for feeling normal. Getting real help would mean putting his entire life on hold for a significant amount of time and I don't think he wanted to endure being away from his almost addictive need to create. It would also mean giving up his privacy and power, two thing he seemed to prize greatly. It's just a sad situation.

Well it sounds like case is closed amongst the authorities but we fans will never stop wondering how he got the tainted pills in the first place. This is all so very, very sad, we all know that Prince didn't talk about his personal business but I just wished he had someone to confide in sooner that he could have gotten the help he needed. I had it on those news outlets and thank goodness I changed the channel just in time so I didn't have to see those images of his deceased body!! At least he is no longer in pain though is the only solace I can make out of all of this and we will continue to celebrate his legacy and the great music he made.

Yes, did you see it? It's on TMZ, right below the Prince story........Sinead says:

.

Eleven days after Prince overdosed, Sinead was interviewed over the phone by Carver County Sheriff's investigators ... who have just released audio of that conversation, and she says Prince commonly "used hard drugs."

.

Sinead said, "I know this because I spent time with the man." She recalls it wasn't a pleasant experience, and claimed Prince "had been violent to a number of women in his life" ... some of whom she claims had to be hospitalized.

.

She also claimed Prince told her the real reason he didn't want to release his famous "Black Album" was because he'd taken drugs, and had a vision of God ... who told him to shelve the project.

.

eek

.

She needs to stop with this bullshit. Prince never physically abused any women!! These people make me sick!! mad

Can we start a separate thread about the tapes on the shelves in the vault? I saw two from 85/86 called "Soul Sister" and "Fun Love" and a '92 era track called "Check It Out", none of which are listed on Princevault. Also you can make out master tapes for Take Me With U, Purple Rain, Moonbeam Levels, Blue Light, Neon Telephone, Spirit, Jungle Love and I Don't Wanna Leave U, a box marked "Vagina" from the Vanity 6 era, many Parade era masters, a tape labelled "Pop Life Outtakes", and dozens of live tapes. A lot to digest.

So the police have released all their investigative files to the media, including video of the scene of Prince's death?

Edited to add, the texts show why Dr. S was there that morning. He was delivering the medical records so the Kornfields would have them. Thought it was safer to drive them over and PP didn't have a fax.

my understanding per the press conference is that it's Minnesota law that all investigation files in closed cases are public. They're just making it easily accessible online to avoid being innundated with individual requests for access.

I thought I heard the DA say that Prince was becoming antsy, I forget which day and had inquired about addiction symptoms on one of the visits to see Dr. S. The timeline they gave from 4/7 up until his death made it sound like it had been a short lived addiction. At that time, Prince was prescribed Clonidine. A short time after that KJ inquired since he was concerned about P's drug use. I listened to it three times...it is possible to become addicted in that time. It seems that Prince did not want to have a monkey on his back.
