I was hopeful for the extended Take Me With U in pristine quality. I LOVE the coda! Hope one day...

Me too, as well as the unedited Nikki/I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm A Star tracks.

Disc 2 is garbage. Why the need for the 7'' edits of songs where the full versions of most of the said songs are on the SAME DISC? It's just a waste of disc space. Disc 3, on the other hand, is great! I wonder what version of Wonderful Ass is included ('83 or '86).

All the 12-inches are there, and that is definitely NOT wasteful.

Here it is, in plain text:

Disc 1: Original album, 2015 Paisley Park remaster

Disc 2: Edits & extended mixes

  1. When Doves Cry (7” single edit)
  2. 17 Days (single edit)
  3. Let’s Go Crazy (single edit)
  4. Erotic City (single edit)
  5. Purple Rain (single edit)
  6. God (single edit)
  7. God (Love Theme From Purple Rain) (instrumental)
  8. Another Lonely Christmas (single edit)
  9. I Would Die 4 U (single edit)
  10. Baby I’m a Star (single edit)
  11. Take Me With U (single edit)
  12. Let's Go Crazy ( Special Dance Mix)
  13. Erotic City (extended version)
  14. Another Lonely Christmas (extended version)
  15. I Would Die 4 U (extended version)

Disc 3: From the Vault

  1. The Dance Electric (11:29)
  2. Love and Sex (5:00)
  3. Computer Blue (“Hallway Speech” version) (12:18)
  4. Velvet Kitty Cat (2:32)
  5. Katrina’s Paper Dolls (3:30)
  6. We Can F— (10:17)
  7. Electric Intercourse (studio version) (4:57)
  8. Our Destiny / Roadhouse Garden (6:25)
  9. Possessed (7:56)
  10. Wonderful A— (6:24)
  11. Father’s Song (5:30)

Certainly agree with everyone that disk 2 is unnecessary, but disk 3 looks worth the price of admission, whatever that will be.

[Edited 4/19/17 14:10pm]

Eh... I don't hink the 2nd disc is a waste. It has all the singles, all the related 12 inch versions and 12 inch b-sides. This release needed those things.

Ah, someone who agrees with me. I'd just rearrange the order slightly so it's A-side then corresponding B-side, A-side then corresponding B-side, etc. And move the extended instrumental of "God" to after the extended version of "Erotic City". The extended version of "I Would Die 4 U" can remain as the last track since it's live and therefore stands out a bit from the other songs.

Very nerdy, I know.

So Wonderful Ass will be the '83 version without Wendy and Lisa? That should definitely be interesting, I've never heard it.

And where are the two concerts? Can we assume that they will be released on DVD if they haven't been registered as songs?

Also, that's a much longer Father's Song than I've heard. Very good. Disc 3 looks impressive, everything and more I wanted with the exception of G-Spot.

[Edited 4/19/17 13:08pm]

If it is, it might sound like the 2:01min version (Work It disc 4) Without there backing vocals there is a little too much space

Haha, Warner Bros just had the post removed for "copyright infringement" on Facebook.

So please save it, and re-upload it yourselves, everywhere.

Seriously, what is the point of them doing that? The info is out there now.

Maybe they weren't fond of the way you're self-promoting by revealing the tracklist.

I am playing this as I did/do with major albums I love:

Buy original

Buy remaster

Buy new format ie dvd audio sacd, shm, or blu ray audio

Buy 2 disc version

Buy super deluxe.

we are sitting on tons of great outtakes in great quality from recent leaks in the last few years.

It's cool that these people shared, but now it's time for us to pay back for what we rcvd.

I have and will buy everything prince has officially released to pay for the thousands of tracks we all got on the bootleg market.

Hopefully this won't be crazy expensive.

Look at the beatles..... we got anthology, then what 15 years later we got the mono box and love......... now Super Deluxe Sgt peppers.

Buy it, crank it,,,,,, get chills and remember the magic of hearing a track for the first time, referring to disc 3 and some of the tracks.

Music is the best...

Frankly I'd pay $50 cold hard cash JUST for a re-mastered 9 track PURPLE RAIN.

Prince's 80's albums are so in need of a fresh sonic shine.

Am I the only one suspicious about the 2015 Paisley Park remaster tag on Purple Rain? Did Prince do this with unedited vocals?

Yep, disc 2 is disapointing. Disc 3 looks great to me though. Very much looking forward to buying this.

Variety mentions that two films are likely to be included presumably Prince and the Revolution Live 1985 Syracuse the other is not mentioned. WB has not confirmed the tracklist or the films. Sorry if this has already been posted.

We get full studio versions of Wonderful Ass, Electric Intercourse, Hallway Computer Blue, and The Dance Electric. I don't care what anyone says, this plus a remastered Purple Rain is so awesome and I am fully happy with it!

I'm actually pleased with this upcoming release. true I already have most of the songs (except for several on cd 3), but to hear clear remastered HQ versions is what dreams are made of! Automatic day #1 buy for me! Anyway, two questions remain: What is the price? What are the two live concert dvds? Anyway, Thank U Militant for this info. I was about to lose faith in this project all together!

Yeah I'd say not only are they not wasteful, they're essential to a Purple Rain box set, along with everything else that was officially released during the era.

The problem is we were promised 2 discs of unreleased material. I think if the set included the b-sides, edits, and extended versions, in addition to two discs of unreleased material, nobody would have a problem with it.

i'm content with disc 2 since it will at least give us the b-sides and extended versions
in the same quality and at the same volume as the other tracks. so if you put these
in a playlist they all go together and they don't change dramatically in sound from a
hits/bsides rip of "17 days" to the newly mastered "love and sex" etc.

the reason i'm not elated with disc 2 is because they clearly stated this release would
contain 2 discs of unreleased material. so far that seems to not be the case.

if they'd said 'and a bonus disc of unreleased songs', all would be fine.

why always the fuckery with press releases? can't companies like this get anything
right the first time round?

still holding out a tiny, tiny bit of hope for that second disc of unreleased stuff but it
will probably remain a dream.

And that's great for you. I however, can't see the value in purchasing a whole set for 5 - 7 unheard songs. Prince was one of the most prolific artists of our time - and the best they could do is clogg up most of a disc with single edits that no one really wants? And another with content that has mostly leaked in great quality?

It wont be simply for 5-7 unheard songs. You also buy it for full studio quality versions of some of Prince's best songs (Computer Blue hallway, Dance Electric, Wonderful Ass, etc.). Just because they have leaked in "alright" quality, honestly for me the expereince listening to proper full mastered songs are so much more enjoyable. Not to mention the fact that Purple Rain is going to be remastered as well so you will get that in better fidelity. I am happy

I had the great pleasure of meeting and speaking with Susan Rogers about this release fairly recently and based on what she said about the care they are putting into finding the right versions in the vaults, I think its ok to get excited haha. The fact that she seemed pleased at the care WB is taking for this release is enough for me to feel excited for it, and to have full studio mastered versions of my favorite Prince outtakes makes this great for me.

When she told me they were scouring the vaults making sure the specific version of Wonderful Ass coming out is the one that Prince would have wanted out - that sealed the deal for me.
