People are moaning about disc 2..but lets be honest people would moan whatever was on the release, im actually really glad to have all the edits together...really makes for a complete package, and I can wait to hear Prince's high pitch God vocal's and the funkyness of Erotic City in a remastered form.....

Not only that but I remember when this set was first announced people on these boards were saying that the extended versions/etc NEEDED to be in this set for completion. What can I say, it's the internet....

The extended versions are needed. The edited versions are not - we already have them numerous times over and no one really cares for them.

Yes that is correct.

as i've said multiple times in this thread, there should be another cd of unreleased music on this release.

For clarity, and if anyone is interested, here is a copy of the original press release by Warner where they clearly state that included will be two cd's of unreleased music which, assuming this list is correct, is not the case. And yeah i'd agree it's more likely just people bungling a press release than straight out lying but unless you take it all very personally and flip out the results are the same.

[Edited 4/19/17 17:45pm]

Hmmm, given this info does not include the DVD info, and therefore is incomplete of full package release, maybe the 2nd CD (of unreleased info) is a yet to be detailed CD single/EP of one of the unreleased tracks from disc 3 - containing further unreleased songs from the Purple Rain era. Just a thought(pipe dream)? Would certainly maximise earnings for WB forcing the fans to buy the single also? Possibly including your G-spot, traffic jam and one or 2 others???? [Edited 4/19/17 18:29pm]

The link I posted earlier (to Thecurrent blog) mentions that the video of Syrcause show will be included, with the audio for that having been remastered too.

So still another DVD yet to be detailed.... so until we get the WB press release detailing content who knows what is still to be confirmed....

That's an absolute cop-out.

If WB had delivered what they promised - two discs of unreleased material (a healthy mix of leaked and unleaked stuff) - the would be no complains.

Stop trying to justify poor decision making.

Actually people will complain anyway. For example, I guarantee there are a lot of people that will be happy to hear those unreleased versions on the new Sgt. Peppers set that comes out next month. Me? I heard most of them YEARS ago on Purple Chick bootlegs. But that's the cost of being a bootleg collector/uber fan. You want to hear stuff that you're not supposed to hear. Even if they included the other Purple Rain "long versions", guess what? We've already heard them! Could they have included Wednesday? Sure.... But maybe, just maybe they couldn't find it, or the tapes sucked, or whatever. 17 Days Extended may not even exist! The only thing that is fraked is they said 2 Cds of unreleased stuff..... But hell, even if there was I'm willing to bet super-fans would probably heard most of that too.

I'm sure we'll see it this Friday.

And it has been confirmed that a proper long version of 17 Days exists. I was really hoping that it would be released on this package.

Right, that's the last time I moan about no long 17 Days. At least for 2 Days...

All I'm hearing from you are excuses that apply when you want them to.

Yes, we've heard th elon versions of Purple Rain. We've also heard half of Disc 3. No excuse.

Wednesday was given a test pressing several times. Really? They couldn't find it? Unlikely.

17 Day does exist. it's been confirmed by Questlove and Madhousemen.

And yes, it is fucked that they said 2 CDs of unreleased material - they should be held accountable for it.

I dont part with my money easily.....but id prefer all those b-sides that are actually associated with the singles of that album "Purple Rain" ...to all be together.....that's all.....if they wernt they would only release a "B-sides collection" ...somewhere down there line, which I would end up spending on again anway....

I don't know if Purple Rain edit has ever had a cd or digital release, maybe on some ancient multiple artist compilation. Why anyone would want to listen to it is beyond my personal taste but I actually have a friend who has repeatedly said the 7" edit is his favourite Prince track. shrug

I think it's important that the 7" versions be included, they're part of the story. Not at the expense of other unreleased tracks OBVIOUSLY but you're acting like this was a choice that was ever on the table. We have no idea. Physically including an extra cd would be a minor expense, preparing another cd from outtakes is a different thing altogether.

Don't get me wrong, i'm disappointed too but unfortunately i'm not surprised. The lack of 17 Days extended and Wednesday is a real kicker for me.

Most of the b-sides could have followed the album on disc 1. In either case, that doesn't justify clogging up disc 2 with edits that barely have an audience.

I hear ya....but either way...im sure there's much more suprise's to come to keep us all happy, seemed like only yesterday the 4ever compilation was released. So we will all be holding 1999 Deluxe, Parade Deluxe and SOTT Deluxe in no time!!......Ive longed for years to hear SOTT especially remastered with some Dream Factory tracks...and especiallywnat to hear the remastered angel vocals of "Adore" beg

I wonder if they'll spin it that way: 2 'albums' on one disc? They did say albums in the press release, not discs specifically.

And for what it's worth, you can't get more than 80 mins of music on a cd, so at 76 mins, that disc is pretty much packed.

Excited for the release. Hope there's juicy liner notes.

Hi guys,

just to clear up some of the comments in this thread, which seem to be based on presumptions.

I ask you to have some trust in this post; please be aware that my sources have asked to shed some light on the leaked tracklist:

Father's Song is the full 5 minute, completely unheard, finished studio version. Mixed, mastered, multi-layered keyboard parts and all.

Electric Intercourse is the finished studio version we didn't even knew existed for sure! NOT the 1983 rehearsal.

Possessed is a completely different vocal version than has ever been circulating

Katrina's Paper Dolls is not the known, circulating version

Computer Blue and Dance Electric: the full, mastered, HQ version that always deserved a proper release.

We Can Fuck is the epic 10 minute work-out that no-one has ever heard. Prince´s drumming on this one is right up there with any classic p-funk track you know.

We´re really, literally, talking about Straight From The VAULT material here.

Obviously, it's impossible for me at this moment to submit some form of proof to back up my claim, but all I ask for you is to wait 'till the release is out there before we all pass judgment. If I turn out to be wrong, I´ll be the first to acknowlegde! But I am positive MINDS WILL BE BLOWN!

Also, disc 2 does contain prev.released material, but you will be surprised on the mastering done and sound quality!

For now, patience and best wishes. It´s a tough week for all of us.

Sifi

I thought Sex Shooter with Prince on vocals was supposed to be on it. Does anyone know if that even exist?
I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

I'm super excited about disc 3! Even if we have some of them already, these will be in better quality than anything we have! To get my hands on a good quality Wonderful Ass, Electric Intercourse and Dance Electric with Prince vocals! eek

I'm not going to complain. While I am a huge fan, I have never heard any of the songs that are going to be on disc 3 (if this really is the official tracks) so it's all going to be new to me. I don't have access to most of the things that the uber collectors do, so I'm going to be driving around in my car blasting these songs out my car windows for all to hear.

I don't believe it ... disk 2 is rubbish ... neither prince or WB have any reason to reduce sales with 'we can fuck' on the packaging .. this set suggests an our destiny roadhouse live medley but the recent road house leak was stand alone studio masterpiece ... and i doubt prince called computer blue the "hallway speach version" that sounds more like a fan invented title ... hard to believe .. we will see

Okay, tough to say exactly how I feel (since we don't know the selling price or the video portions for certain), but I'm pretty okay with this. Several unreleased tracks I don't have (and I'm still hopeful, despite Moonbeam Levels, that they'll actually sound okay--though, at the same time, if they do sound okay it might be because someone messed with them other than Prince), and unless it's pretty expensive, I'm not complaining about the previously released stuff. Sure, I have it somewhere already, but not all together and not all on pressed discs, so, again depending on price, I'm okay with their inclusion. I do wonder if there's any chance that there will be different versions of the package. A 5 disc with all the material, and as an alternative maybe a 2 disc with just the original and the unreleased tracks--I'm guessing that might fit some people's desires a bit better than what it looks like will be the full package.

Obviously, as fans we want more, but for what this is, it's decent. Disc 3 has a lot of great treats as well as some tracks I haven't heard before. Would I love a 5-disc version (plus the DVDs)? Of course! But I'll still happily pick this up, if for "Possessed" and "Computer Blue (Hallway Verson)" alone.

Disc 2 is cool for the completionists, I guess, but there's not much I'm interested in there. Disc 3 though? I'm gonna be jamming to that shit all summer cool Maybe some of y'all have been listening to a lot of those songs for years, but you can't complain about getting them in better quality.

The single edits are unnecessary (especially after "4Ever") but I'm cool with this. And if they want to release a 35th anniversary version with all the extended album tracks (and all of them except "When Doves Cry" have one) then I'll buy it again. Just keep taking my money WB.
