lol @ the "artists subject to change" disclaimer on Ticketmaster.com.... no need to debate about the lineup, I guess it might change anyway LOL

Could be possibility too that they might add more artists as well.

It was my understanding that from the get-go there have been two factions among the siblings, and that the original dispute regarding the concert was about money and television rights. I heard this from someone who lived there.

I get the feeling there were issues behind the scenes but because the date was announced some (like Londell) felt they had to keep that commitment and worked to pull something together. That's the tough part with the estate still being settled and Prince not having one big happy family where all his siblings get along wit each other and are able to make decisions in unison. Sad situation all around.

It's an ok line up. Couple that with a PP tour and it would make for a fun couple of days. Hopefully First Ave or other night clubs will do Prince night Thru, Fri or Sat. That would make it even better.

Beloved Fans 2 Prince, We the People are Beautifull, Loved and Blessed todo We!

I stand firmly committed in Honoring Prince indefinitely for 1 by touring PP museum

Having ask the residents of Chanhassan how to realize a permanent way to honor the love of my life and collectively including all his Fans, Brian mentioned Create a Garden.

My propossal to the estate has been made and outlines this;

(great probability of conception, estate calls it fantastic idea)

1. I will provide the innitial funds needed $75000

2. The plan entails a garden mainly of Tulips and some other flowers

3. Every visitor has the option to plant a Tulip in honor of his passing 2 the after world

4. Tulips bloom early spring and some return each spring

5. Overtime the garden can expand into lake ann park attracting more visitors

6. This fall could be us laying the foundation honoring his death come next spring an Army of Purple Tulips, Beauty staring at heaven. Coming together and finding closure of his untimely passing

Paisley Park will have "The Garden of Eden"

7. Prince Love for his Fans will never end FUSION BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH

Hope to hear more details from the estate, but in touch with the groundskeeper Jimmy, which has worked for prince some 20 years and stil maintaining the grounds

I'm planning my return to chanhassan Oct 4

I envision with our collective Love 2 create a must visit Paisley Garden of Eden Park rivaling no one

yeahthat This sounds like a real lovely idea - beauty, rebirth, spring, life cycle, color, peace, unity.

This would be perfect!

What the experts say on the meaning of tulips;

Tulips are symbolic of fame and perfect love. The symbolic meanings also change with the color of the tulips. Red tulips mean "believe me" and are a declaration of true love. Variegated tulips mean "you have beautiful eyes." Yellow tulips mean "there's sunshine in your smile" and cheerful thoughts. Cream colored tulips mean "I will love you forever." White tulips symbolize heaven, newness and purity. Purple tulips symbolize royalty. Pink tulips mean affection and caring. Orange tulips mean energy, enthusiasm, desire, and passion.

Could this BE any more fitting! Peace, love and healing.

I don't get this lineup. Christina Aquiliera???

You think of the countless people this man inspired and it seems they are struggling to pull a show line-up together. I would have thought they would have had artists offering to honour him.

I may be part of the minority but a tribute show holds little appeal to me anyway. It serves as a reminder that he really was the best.. nobody compares.

Still, in saying this, i get that many are looking forwards to it. I genuinely hope it is a great show.. one that honours the best that ever did it.

I feel you, PRNelson, but you know what my premise in going to the tribute is at this point? Seeing all of US together celebrating P's life. Yeah, I could complain about whoever is performing, but that's not where my head is at. I'll pay to see and be with US. We're the reason his legacy will continue....

Event in San Francisco:

William Scott Featured | After Pop Life | Minnesota Street Project | San Francisco, CA

September 14 – October 1, 2016
RECEPTION: Saturday, September 17, 6-8pm

.

After Pop Life is an exhibition and event series inspired by the late musical genius and cultural force of Prince, whose untimely passing earlier this year marked a moment of tremendous loss, but alsoappreciation of his gifts to culture. With works by more than thirty contemporary artists, the exhibition honors the pervasiveness of Prince’s legacy and how his prodigious musical output and indelible personal style seemmore alive than ever. The project will activate two galleries in the Minnesota Street Project complex with artworks that are at once thoughtful, playful, and of course, sexy.

William Scott, Prince Reborn As A New Rock Star in 1980′s in Another Life of Prince, 2016, Acrylic on paper, 22 x 30 inches

.

Organized by critic and curator Glen Helfand, the exhibition pays tribute to Prince as a multitalented figure who not only wrote, recorded and performed his music, but also made films, fostered and supported other artists, designed clothes, and was a generous, humble philanthropist, particularly in the Bay Area. Less a memorial than a tribute to how many lives Prince touched, how many dance floors he activated, and how his work provided the soundtrack to meaningful moments in so many lives, the showprobeshow certain pop stars seep deeply into our consciousness—we each own him in our own way. Those who revere Prince, in a sense, appropriate an aspect of The Artist.

.

The exhibition celebrates and considers his actions and ideas of an astoundingly generous performer, who was also presciently, steadfastly in control of the ownership of his music and visual style.

.

“Of course the music is the starting point,” says Helfand. “The passion felt for Prince, not to mention his highly defined visual aesthetic—and all that purple—make him such a compelling, inspiring figure. His presence brings up so many issues, big topics like sexuality, race, and belief, but his work also offers such unfettered pleasure .Prince brings so many people together. I was so struck to find out just the incredible range of artists who were so deeply affected by his passing.”

.

More than thirty artists will exhibit drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation and a karaoke project that riff on all things Prince. The art will express deep familiarity of specific songs, album covers, mediated moments, pure adoration and the less tangible aspects of the Prince aura. The gallery complex’s media room will be transformed into a karaoke lounge within which visitors can croon their favorite Prince hits to existing and artist-made videos during gallery hours.

.

Participating artists include: Sadie Barnette, Paulina Bercynski, Libby Black, Rebeca Bollinger, Bonanza, Luke Butler, Maria Guzman Capron, Sofia Cordova, Veronica de Jesus, Didi Dunphy, Marco Garcia, James Gobel, Daniel Green, Rachel Harrison, Cliff Hengst, Scott Hewicker, David Huffman, Geoff Kaplan and Yisha Dai: General Working Group, Kevin Killian, Laura Hyunjhee Kim, Jason Lazarus, Rodney McMillian, Kori Newkirk, Adam Novak, Jennie Ottinger, Erika Ranee, Rex Ray, Yukari Sakura, William Scott, Tamra Seal, Jenny Sharaf, Wayne Smith, Sarah Thibault, Lava Thomas, Gina Tuzzi, Anne Walsh, Jenifer Wofford, Marilyn Wong and others.

/

The exhibition is a follow-up to a legendary 1993 exhibition titled Pop Life, also organized by Helfand, which was staged at San Francisco’s New Langton Arts on the eve of Prince’s San Francisco concerts of that year. The outpouring of interest and emotion that came after Prince’s death in April was an inspiration to revisit and update the project. After Pop Life includes artists from the original exhibition including Rex Ray, Cliff Hengst, Scott Hewicker, and Wayne Smith. A 32-page exhibition publication, designed by General Working Group, will be produced for the show and will feature original digital collage and essays by Helfand.

.

After Pop Life will also highlight Prince’s quiet philanthropy. Prince helped to launch the Oakland-based #YesWeCode initiative dedicated to transforming the talent pipeline to increase opportunity in the tech sector.

For more information on #YesWeCode and Prince’s support, visit here.
For exhibition information, visit here.

.

EVENTS

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 5PM-8PM
Reception and literary evening featuring a stage reading of noted San Francisco writer Kevin Killian’s Poet’s Theater play, Life After Prince, written in 1993 and updated this year, which wittily follows a string of female Prince protégés to the unemployment office. Reception to follow from 6-8 p.m.

.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1ST, 8PM-11PM
A GLAM SLAM closing event on October 1st will feature “23 Positions in a One Night Stand,” a BNNZA fashion performance organized by Bonanza in collaboration with Marco Garcia and Maria Capron. Inspired by Prince’s notorious 1991 MTV Music Awards performance of the song Gett Off, the show will feature Prince-inspired looks, fierce posturing and durational performances that will activate and accent a full-on dance party in the Minnesota Street Project Atrium. Proceeds from this closing event will support #YesWeCode. Purchase tickets here.

I'm so disappointed. The majority of this line-up has no connection to Prince. Christina Aguilera and John Mayer...really? I think I'm gonna save my money and do something else in Minni that night, instead. I don't have a problem with them moving to a smaller venue or being in St. Paul. I think that was just a smart move. I don't care about A, B or C list artists either. I just want to see artists who have a connection either becasue they worked with him or were outspoken fans. I mean, Trisha Yearwood was a member of his fan club back in the early '90s and made that known. I saw her a few days after his passing and she'd been wearing nothing but purple since the day he died. She would have been a better choice for the lineup than some of these perfomers. Maroon 5, Sting, Stevie Nicks all would have been better because they all had a stronger connection. I don't necessarily want to see any of them but would pay money to because they were fams, too, and spoke about that publicly. If they wanted a top guitarist, it should be Kravitz or Clapton who both had connections to P. Not Mayer...he shouldn't be the one. I'm going to Minni that week no matter what but I don't think I'm going to this show. I'd rather spend ticket money for the show in Cleveland on the 15th. I'll be back to Ohio by then and can easily drive to Cleveland. If there's any other orgers who want to do something of our own on the 13th, I'm game for that.

Morris Day & The Time, NPG, Liv Warfield, 3rdEye Girl, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Mint Condition have no connection to Prince? confused

Anita Baker, Doug E. Fresh and MANY others that will be performing at the memorial tribute were loved by Prince including the NPG and his last band that he toured with and that he thought were great.

Let's please try to show some respect for Prince and his family.

I'm gonna pipe up to defend Christina Aguilera. All respect to her, the woman can sing. She's got one of the most powerful voices and widest octave ranges in the business. Sound like anyone you know??? Prince is a tough act to follow vocally, and I respect anyone who can even try to fill his shoes. CA is one of the few who can. This gig almost ran off the rails. We're lucky to have her.
And the MUSIC continues...forever...

And, don't forget, Doug E. Fresh was actually a part of the NPG. For awhile, he toured with Prince. I wish folks would just be happy that the Tribute is actually going to happen. This is a wonderful line-up. It might not include everyone some might like to see...and it might include some not so obvious choices, but here's the thing: Everyone who takes the stage on Oct. 13 will be there to celebrate Prince. Why can't that be enough? All the negativity is really draining.

Wow. Christina Aguilera cannot fill Prince's shoes vocally or otherwise. Never.

yeahthat No way. No how.

Fresh and MANY others that will be performing at the memorial tribute were loved by Prince including the NPG and his last band that he toured with and that he thought were great. Let's please try to show some respect for Prince and his family. It's disappointing that John Mayer and Christina Aguilera will be performing, but the many artists that Prince loved and respected that were invited to perform are awesome! #love4oneanother [Edited 9/16/16 18:57pm]

When the tribute concert details were first released on Friday I tried to be as positive as possible (and I still think they got some good acts worth seeing) but after a day or so I just have a weird feeling about the whole thing. Nothing on Tyka's Facebook page about it. Same with Liv Warfield and Shelby J. I checked the twitter accounts of the 3rdEye Girls (along with Trevor Guy and Joshua Welton) and no mention of it either. Nothing from Chaka Khan or Anita Baker. And then of course Morris Day posting stuff to social media and then removing it. And of course no involvement from Sheila E with her scheduling an event with Morris Day 2 days later and tweeting about it the same day this tribute concert was announced.

With Tyka'a announcement in August and then tickets not going on sale until mid to late September (plus the venue change) I get the feeling something happened behind the scenes and what we're getting is someone scrambling to fill an obligation because the Oct 13 date was already announced. The whole thing is just weird. The first announcement back in August came from the family; the one on Thursday has no quotes from the family. Is the family going to be at this event? Mayte, Mani and Apollonia were at the First Ave gigs. Are they going to be there? Why wouldn't people like Shelby and Liv be promoting it on social media? Liv is promoting other upcoming gigs she has.

The more I'm thinking about this the weirder vibe I'm getting. I'd almost rather have a statement from the family saying the tribute concert is being postponed than what seems like a last minute scramble to pull something together to meet a previously announced date. I'm sure Londell or whoever is now in charge of this are trying to do the right thing but Prince doesn't deserve anything rushed or half-assed. I hope it all works out and I still will try and get tickets on Monday (assuming most of them are $19.99).

Here's where I am right about now: IT IS WHAT IT IS. Time will tell. Prince's family dynamic is complex. There will probably never be a time when all of his siblings and half-siblings will be in total agreement. Same with his various bands and proteges. I mean, I can't even BEGIN to understand the politics of P's inner circle. I'm just happy they were able to come up with a Tribute, as promised. I can't be there, but I hope it turns out well. Until then, I'm just going to sit back, think positive thoughts, and see what happens. Whatever the case, Prince has left the building and things will never be the same. It is right to celebrate this great man...and in a timely manner. I just hope all those who KNEW him and LOVED him can put egos and differences of opinions aside and come together on this ONE evening, ON ONE ACCORD, and show some MAD LOVE for the Purple Yoda.

I hear ya and this really is the right approach. I just wish I knew who all from the various NPG bands would be there. If it's just the 91-93 band members (minus Rosie Gaines) that's a serious bummer. I guess Liv Warfield will be there but no Shelby J or Maceo Parker or Ida Nielsen? No Rhonda Smith or Cassie O'Neal or Candy Dulfer? That makes it much less exciting for me.

Damn I wish the family dynamics were different because I think only the family could pull everyone together and get them on the same page. Londell and Bremer and whoever else is involved clearly cannot. sad

You both bring up some good points. I was having an uneasy feeling too and couldn't put my finger on it until you mentioned the lack of online chatter. I used to work in PR and I suspect the PR firm they got to step in has put a gag on everyone involved so that they control the message and info getting out through the "official" channels. I have to wonder if Tyka hadn't released a date if this tribute would be happening at all. I think the message is being controlled so there's no more disappoint and early information. I also think there were struggles behind the scenes for a family trying to a plan an event to honor their brother but didn't live in the world he lived in. Inexperience, grief, legalities and family politics all probably led them to something different than the even imagined. I'm warming up to the idea of being there not because of the performances but because of the fams and the whole atmosphere. I go back to the idea that I had with Paisley Park and that is whether it was my (or anybody else's) ideal, the money I spend will go to the estate and help them pay off that tax bill when it comes so that it can remain in the right hands. Even if there's infighting going on with his friends and family, I'd rather see those who loved him keep control of his estate than they lose it and a stranger or the government get it. I wish I had joined the org years ago instead of lurking all this time. Your comments and discussion and support have provided me with comfort during this time as well as different ways to view the situation. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Prince always brought people together no matter their differences. He did that in life and I feel he's continuing to do that from wherever he is now.
