I'm so disappointed. The majority of this line-up has no connection to Prince. Christina Aguilera and John Mayer...really? I think I'm gonna save my money and do something else in Minni that night, instead. I don't have a problem with them moving to a smaller venue or being in St. Paul. I think that was just a smart move. I don't care about A, B or C list artists either. I just want to see artists who have a connection either becasue they worked with him or were outspoken fans. I mean, Trisha Yearwood was a member of his fan club back in the early '90s and made that known. I saw her a few days after his passing and she'd been wearing nothing but purple since the day he died. She would have been a better choice for the lineup than some of these perfomers. Maroon 5, Sting, Stevie Nicks all would have been better because they all had a stronger connection. I don't necessarily want to see any of them but would pay money to because they were fams, too, and spoke about that publicly. If they wanted a top guitarist, it should be Kravitz or Clapton who both had connections to P. Not Mayer...he shouldn't be the one. I'm going to Minni that week no matter what but I don't think I'm going to this show. I'd rather spend ticket money for the show in Cleveland on the 15th. I'll be back to Ohio by then and can easily drive to Cleveland. If there's any other orgers who want to do something of our own on the 13th, I'm game for that.

One could argue it's quite disrespectful to call this line-up "whoever was available". I don't consider Stevie wonder and Chaka Kahn to be "whoever was available". Nor Morris Day or Morris Hayes. I have a feeling if this line up was BeyoncΓ©, JT, Bruno Mars etc. some would complain about that too. lol I'm hoping the Revolution or maybe Dez or Andre get added or are surprise guests. πŸ™πŸ»

Of course some would, because everyone is different and has different opinions.

I'd love to know what's going on there. I don't remember Sheila tweeting or posting on FB about the Revolution shows at First Ave. I always thought that was odd. Even some of Prince's other band members like Shelby, Liv and Ida gave a shout out to the Rev. Sheila was silent. Either something happened or there's some ego/powerplay thing going on.

I spoke to Sheila last year and there was a bit of bitterness all round. I spoke to Ida last week and she didn't have a bad word to say about anyone, but I suspect she'll be the missing member of 3EG at the tribute. She's finding it hard looking backwards.

Oh bummer if Ida can't be there. Maybe we'll see Rhonda? That would be awesome. Not sure what to think about Sheila. She was right there at PP the day after he died; she did the BET tribute and got a tattoo of his love symbol on her arm. And now she's doing this show with Morris Day. All very confusing.

I'm sure it'll be a great concert, both of them.

That's assuming she was on the ship to begin with. wink

Wasn't she the Queen of PP at one point? I mean if the queen wasn't ever planning on making a showing then what's the point of being queen?

I guess I'll buy the concert dvd when it comes out.

One could argue it's quite disrespectful to call this line-up "whoever was available".

Equally, one could argue its quite disrespectful to Prince to fill headline slots at his official tribute with agent promotions like Tori Kelly and Luke James.

Hey, Prince, we'll got your life covered with a fitting tribute and we've bagged Tori, Luke and Bilal.

She had also said on television a few months ago that she was going to be the musical director of the memorial tribute.

Hopefully, she will send out a nice tweet soon expressing wholeheartedly her support for the official Prince memorial tribute. That would be very sweet of her.

Especially, since Prince's family considers this to be the main public memorial tribute. Let's be positive and keep the faith hoping that all Prince associated artists will embrace the official memorial tribute.

Don't rule Ida out. She didn't say she wouldn't be there, I just know she is dealing with the whole thing in her own way and that is by concentrating on her new music. She finding it hard and I didn't push her any further to talk about the past or the memorial.

Sheila is a differnent story. There is clearly fallout, but I'm not in the mix enough to know exactly what is going on. I can guess, but that wouldn't be fair.

He did the first night (I watched one of the livestreams of that show) and he did pretty great mostly although there were a couple times I kind of cringed because well, it just was someone other than Prince singing Prince's song/s and no one can do it like Prince could. But Bilal I think did the best anyone could do so he's good with me.

I didn't think you were being condescending. I didn't deny those performers and their connection to P in my post but I believe every artist in the lineup should have a connection to P not just half. I'm not angry or even surprised. I don't blame the family. They're regular people who have no experience in anything even close to planning an event like this. I might have even still bought a ticket for the same bill if all this information was released in August as it was first promised. At this point, I, personally, needed something a little more meaningful to want to spend my time there and my money on a ticket. In the end, we're all mourning and that's different for everyone. For me, I want to be around people and even performers who are fams and feel about him the way I did. I'm sure those of you who go will enjoy it and get what you need out of it. Just like there are some who aren't ready for PP to be open and won't be there but I bought my ticket the minute and day they went on sale. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way and I know there's plenty of others who can't wait for the show. I hope that those of you who go have a great time and I can't wait to hear your stories about it the next day. I'm going to go for something different and a little more low key that night and if anyone wants to join me because that's more their thing, you're more than welcome to join me. I think we'll all find love, peace and closure in Minni that week no matter what.

I think the important thing to remember is that one persons Bowie is another persons Jackson. We are never all going to agree on what is a good line up and what is bad. There is no right answer.

If I lived locally to the gig, I would snap it up. Why the hell not? Some good performers and a night to remember. Equally, for some like myself who has travelled the world for Prince, this weak line up creates a dilemma. "Official" means nothing when its clear the planners don't understand Prince fans.

If I asked Prince if I should spend a lot of money coming to see Tori Kelly and Luke James cover Prince songs in St Paul, or instead, spend it on extra time with my family, I think I know what he would say.

And that would be before we even got into the conversation as to whether this 'memorial' was for charity or simply paying lawyers....

Because they exemplify the quality of thought that has gone into this. The guy that fought tooth and nail for real music for real musicians ends up with a tribute containing some talentless D listers, sporadic ex band members and very 'off the boil' A/B listers.

I'm not denying there are not some good performers (I've seen The Time and Stevie over the summer and they were great), but when you bare in mind the home talent obviously missing (The Revolution, Sheila E, Jill Jones, The Family) or the people who respected him (Madonna, Bruce, Beyonce, Rihanna), its a very poor show.

Its quite clearly a botch job hiding under the banner of "Official".
