No way. The list of things Prince personally did to his fans is missing some important items.
For example, SUING THEM.

Ain't that the ugly, sad, seems-to-be-forgotten-too-often truth.

That was his right as a citizen.
But boy it was cruel, and oh surprise, mega-stupid.

It would have gotten Prince a REAL cult status we all know he hasn't today, despite what famz say.

It's one thing to shoot yourself in the foot. But don't bring down in the process caring, dedicated people working their asses off to establish you as a legend, in the likes of "The Dawn" and housequake.com, just to mention the most obvious.

There was for a brief moment a galaxy of Prince curators on the web, and, for such an "internet visionary", he has completely missed the opportunity of the upcoming viral online marketing phenomenon. Pathetic. Another train wreck, just when the stars were aligning by themselves, without having to do anything. He had like a small army of bloggers ready to work for him.

He told repeatedly that the majors were the devil, but never did he plan to release music through small, independent manufacturers like "Sabotage". That would have been a clever move. He would have kept the lion's share, and have new vertical channels for distribution.

But no, Prince wants EMI, Sony, and such. And then spit on them too.

How can the same person plan the whole "Black Album" incident, work his hardcore fanbase to death during the first half of the nineties, and then not realize the importance of having aficionados spreading your work everywhere? Aren't the future incomes worth not to sue? Aren't they much higher in terms of sales and audiences in the long run?
I'm sure some advisor dropped that.
Did Prince listen?

Isn't it obvious that the time and money spent to ensure that no free music from Prince is circulating are not only in pure waste, but also the most counter-productive music business decision taken in maybe the whole music industry since ever?

Resurrecting Camille for one brief not-so-funny song didn't erase that.

I've seen the .org shut down once. Hey, that was the Sheriff, not Prince.
Hell fuck, it was Skipper all the way, telling us that every single one of his pics are his property.

Prince telling us that we, his own apostles, could go fuck off.

We forgave, but didn't forget.

It's astounding that something like Princevault.com exists.
But the output of the man is greater than the man itself.
Now I don't believe Prince to be a MoFo seven-eleven.
I even don't think he's mean.

I think he's (c'm'on, I can't hear ya)...

He hasn't missed it at all.

I think you'll find Prince very much still has a small army of bloggers ready to work for him. It's just that we all hang out on Twitter and YouTube now. Who do you think has been distributing HNR2?

The Purple One's first original book is scheduled for release autumn 2017

Prince has announced that he is writing a memoir. The currently untitled book is scheduled for release in fall 2017 via Spiegel & Grau (a Random House imprint). It will be Prince's first original book. It's described as "an unconventional and poetic journey through his life and creative work – from the family that shaped him and the people, places, and ideas that fired his creative imagination, to the stories behind the music that changed the world," in a press release.

Also in the press release, Spiegel & Grau Executive Editor Chris Jackson said:

Prince is a towering figure in global culture and his music has been the soundtrack for untold numbers of people—including me—for more than a generation; his creative genius has provided the musical landscape of our lives. Millions of words have been written about Prince—books and articles, essays and criticism—but we're thrilled to be publishing Prince's powerful reflections on his own life in his own incandescently vivid, witty, and poetic voice.

Prince will certainly have stories to tell in his memoir. We sure hope his story about the time he replaced a ?uestlove DJ set with a DVD showing of Finding Nemo is in there.

Yesterday, a bunch of Prince goodies (like his engagement ring, rare recordings, and more) were put up for auction. He released two albums last year: HITNRUN Phase One and HITNRUN Phase Two.

Read our new feature "Everybody Is a Star" about Minneapolis venue First Avenue, where Prince came up in the '80s. Also check out some of his riders and guest lists on the Pitch.

prince's book will be the most HIGHLY anticipated book in the history of muziq entertainment!!!!It'll b a COMPLETE "mAsTeRPieCe"....

I think the general point Militant was making is that there is a world of Prince groups on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, blogging etc out there. Goldies Parade does a great job. If you prefer a more critical evaluation of Princes work, Simon Williams runs a blog and today published a blog detailing his opinions on the Lotusflw3er issues.

Don't be sorry, it's not mine 😉 I was just providing balance 😊 It is difficult providing any Prince reviews etc as obviously all opinions are subjective so often it's a case of using them as an expositional tool for fans, new and old, to use as a discussional jumping-off point.

Exactly this. I have been active in the digital Prince scene for many years, and to suggest the scene is anything but vibrant right now is a total fallacy.

However, if you aren't looking in the right places, you wouldn't know. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, Google+ etc. There's even dedicated Prince accounts on Periscope. And some of the Tumblr blogs are regularly getting thousands of likes, reposts, etc.

If anyone's not sure where to start on Twitter, then I'll just point out that @princeorg is the logical first step. We are the biggest Prince fan account on Twitter at present with 7.5k followers.

That's great to know.
But are you part of an official distribution/marketing channel, is Skipper rewarding you in some way?

And does it show, in terms of perceived popularity vs. obvious blatant unpopularity?

We owe a great deal to the hardcore fan community. So why did I have to find "Moonbeam Levels" in pristine sound and not pay for it? I would have.

Well, to take your two points seperately. Obviously I can only speak for myself (NightChild Reviews) I am in no way officially connected in any way whatsoever with Prince or any part of his business, I am completely independent in that manner.

I do know a couple of the HNR 2 distributors and after having spoken to one (Whom I won't name) she told me that she had to bascially purchase 500 copies of the album at her expense and then try to sell them. After posting & packaging she stated that she made no profit and just about broke even. Obviously there is a certain inbuilt risk for her in doing this but it was more a labour of love than a business proposition for her personally. I would also love to pay for MoonBeam levels wink

I don't think Prince has fucked up his career. It may not have gone the way you wanted it to or how many of his fans wanted it to, but it's been an amazing career. He has world-wide respect as an accomplished, iconic musician and he's still to this day one of the most talented musicians out there. People are still excited to see him perform in concert too.

Ohhhhh....I'm an troll, am I? Ok...I'm completely wrong. Prince has made such wise choices with his career. Hell record companies are falling over themselves to sell his most recent album. The possibility exists of course that 'what was said' was taken out of context as well right? What bothers you so much about it? The fact that he only works with Christians because he trusts them or that he's right when he says 'people talk about what they don't know' as if they know him?
