While that is certainly principled, waiting more than 5 to 10 years will defeat the purpose as fans get older, deafer and more prone to dying.

Slices may look the same in terms of percentages, but they all depend on the size of the pie.

Prince should go after all the money he can get for his remasters!

Let's be totally honest though- what is a remaster of, say, the "Diamonds and Pearls" album worth? What kind of sales could WB get from that? How about a "Graffiti Bridge" Remaster?

Everything up to "1999" isn't worth the money to do up in a remaster. "For You"to "Controversy" won't sell.

There's only a handful of albums worth remastering- "Purple Rain", "Parade", "SOTT"; and for arts sake, "Lovesexy". Those eras are rich in outtakes too.

The guy has just waited too darn long. Nobody's waiting for a remaster of "Walk Don't Walk", or "Release It".

I don't blame WB for not dishing out the big $$$ for this catalog at this point in time. It's past it's "best before" date; and Prince should get what's fair for his art.

Conclusion: don't expect remaster anytime soon.

Idk about that ..I would love to have remastered albums with bonus outtakes from dirty mind and controversy albums. Plus to have "hard to get" and "she's just a baby" in excellent quality would be wonderful. I would even like a remastered album of the batman soundtrack .but u have a good point about remastered editions of graffiti bridge and D&P. Besides they already sound good the way they are now but everything from For U-Lovesexy NEEDS remastering

Sign o' the Times needs to be remastered, desperately.

Listened to most it the other day and, uhhh...

I wish Prince would set up a gofundme/something like that page for each album to be remastered and watch the money pour in.

I'll contribute every payday bananadance

-

Related to the Topic- David Bowie just had his first 5 albums remastered and released in a 12 CD box set (only approximately $100.00) and it's a dream come true.

Prince music luvers deserve the same.

Prince............... & $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ mad

I agree: don't expect remasters anytime soon..

-- I am not religious myself, but:

According the holy bible it's a SIN to be so very greedy, isn't it..?

If thats the case and its a sin.... then Prince is a very BIG sinner, he just loves money $$$$$$$ beyond everything else (just like he hasn't made money enough in his career, already!)..... so sad, to be greedy, right...

should we lol or cry = question

My guess is we will "never" see those God damned remasters, not until he is a dead man.... and then I am probably a dead man as well....

Damn what a fucking waste, a missed opportunity. Seems like Prince is waiting for some succes to happen in his kind of dead career before releasing remasters?

Those remasters (1978-1995) should have happened so very very long time ago, already!

In stead Prince is releasing a bad crappy boring album like Phase 2 (yuck, how awful is that)... Right, I should maybe shut up, but I would love to own his good (old) music in good quality.. yes, I'm rather mad at him, for not releasing those remasters right away.....

Its so motherf*cking annoying.. mad mad

So he re-signed with Warner Bros. to regain his masters, with exclusive license to them for the duration of the contract.

Prince moves the goal post once again.

WB were idiots for even bothering with him again. They really should have known better. They should have just held on to those master tapes and told him to go fuck himself.

neutral Years and years of people begging and begging and nagging and sulking and just being plain annoying over remasters and reissues or whatever it is, but it's only here that I see individuals that are really feenin over them. I'm not
understanding the hype. Its sooooo old and overrated ...who cares at this point. confused Its not like the masses are running and flipping over chairs and tables to get a hold of them. Just ask the average man on the street about them and they will probably say I didn't know he was still making music.

I hope you get what you are dying for

won't be about the money.remasters etc...

It's like nothing has changed since 1994 biggrin Prince is still "at war" with Warners.I honestly don't know why they assumed that things would be different this time.

but it's a shame that Prince seems so obsessed with money these days.It seems as if he wants Warners to write him a $400 million check before any remasters are released lol I get that artists should be paid for their work, but he's taking things way too far.The truth is,most of his albums weren't massive sellers in the first place.I think he's putting too much value on some of these albums.

Yes...does he realize that there just isn't that much money to be made selling CD's these days?

Generally, remasters would only appeal to his hardcore fan base (except maybe SOTT, a classic album that DESPERATELY needs remastering). Does he think he will sell millions of copies of these things?

Misleading thread title.

The tweet clearly states that the re-issues aren't going to be released until he's happy with the conditions they will be released under.

I'm definitely waiting for them and it's been stated a million times already: look at all the C-artists which get lavish box sets.

It isn't just about what sells, but also about honoring an important legacy.

Why else would the first lp of Bros be re-issued as a 3-CD [!!!]

I just wonder: did Prince sign a contract again (for the Purple Rain remaster)

and then think (again): I want more monnnnneyyyy!
So youre conclusion is probably correct: don't hold your breath.

First of all, I wonder if there's anything to be read into the use of the word 're-issues' rather than 'remasters'.

To be honest, I couldn't give a monkey's, unless the supposed abundance of reissues are going to come with out-takes and alternate versions of tracks. I really don't think that hearing the albums in better quality is going to particularly enhance my appreciation of them. I'm also no longer interested in any kind of fancy packaging. I got over my collecting addiction - for physical media - something like twenty years ago.

When I was working in music retail during Prince's heyday, the vast majority of sales were made in the first two weeks (at most). With the exception of Purple Rain, he's never had much staying power and as I've never noticed any demand for remasters outside of hardcore fans, I can't imagine they are going to make him that much money, regardless of whatever agreement he finally settles on, nor are they going to cause anyone to re-evaluate his position in the pantheon of all-time greats.

If he doesn't combine any re-issues with the stuff rotting away in the Vault, I just don't see much point.

Can't Prince wait till he gets the money he wants? I want to sell my house , but won't sell till the price is right nothing different to what Prince is doing. Maybe its people on the org's fault about no remasters in the past to if he reads the org all he can see is no one is bothed about remasters and he has misssed the boat. Thats all i see here , keep saying your not bothed and that he should of done it in 94 , no wonder he don't bother with remasters. He could release his classic albums Purple Rain, Sign of the Times, and 1999 first, they would be sellers not just to his hardcore fans but none fans too. The rest of his classic albums could be released in box set. 1978-1995. Big seller to moslty his hardcore fanbase. Don't tell me no one would be intrested in that. headbang

Good lord this bullshit is tiresome. How long can fans be expected to care about a greedy millionaire's bullshit struggles for more millions? Is he going to write Slave on his cheek again?

Whatever price Prince has in his head for how much fans should pay for the remasters, I would pay triple if he would just quit his fucking griping and release them. Every other artist I love has put out awesome reissues, remasters, bonus tracks, etc. Prince keeps holding out because all he cares about is money. What a waste.

My say:

Do not believe the hype.

Only when the items mentioned materialise then you can trust as the Prince man speaketh with double tongue.

.

Meanwhile can someone please explain which albums are fully Prince owned and which are still under WB's guard?

Previously the Prince man explained via a 'tweet' that the PR remaster are on Warner Bros. now.

That means that WB at least has remaster PR album audio.

Do we have inside info on what goodies (outtakes, alternates, 12" versions, etc) the Prince man gave to WB?

Can we assume that his objection about the payment is keeping the PR remaster back?

And not the amount of material? Or the quality of the material?

Does he have a valid point or is he not delivering the right goods?
