lol seriously sometimes you have to fill the blanks in yourself. of course police protected the rich...what did poor people have to protect back in those days? To KingSausages points, does Prince really need to expand on every little thought to make it as clear as water for all of yall? I knew exactly what he meant given how he put it. Maybe it's on the recipient to do their due diligence and pick up a book, do a google search, what have you.

I don't need to pick up a book or do a Google search. I know my history. And it's because I know my history and constantly think about how the past shapes today that I hate oversimplified statements like this one from Prince. It's no better than saying "the Civil War was about slavery." Well, yes, sure. But also a whole lot more.

Right, it's the blanketed generalized statements the oversimplification of history and information.

Not to mention Prince is just trying call the corners to get people sign up on Tidal

dude seriously you have got to get out of the past. your posts are riddled with everything about Prince's past and what in your opinion makes him great, and you use the past to benchmark everything. When you get in the weeds in various threads, it's always about the 90's, WB feuds, what he said in the past (which somehow means he can't evolve or something?) his web experiments, How SOTT was great and we haven't had that since, etc., etc. Seriously, try engaging with what he's doing in the here and now instead of always comparing it to what you loved about him that is simply past history for him. He's kind of made that clear at this point.

Dude, it's all connected. Prince's push for artists getting paid and owning their own work is connected. How can you disconnect and say it's in the past. One of the main things of TIDAL that Prince should have elaborated on and not RACE was that Tidal is consequently now the first major music service to be owned by artists themselves, and claims to pay higher royalties to artists and songwriters

When has Prince NOT talked about what he started in the mid 90s?
Everything in the past does not get dropped Dude. Things have an origin. And a continuation.
When did Prince STOP dealing with and talking about what he started in the mid 90s? He never did stop...

And LotusFlower was 2009
And we can talk about any aspect of Prince career that we choose too.
You cannot disconnect Prince's 'ownership' of his own label:Paisley Park that he had signed acts under him.
You cannot disconnect from all of his online purchasing endevours

Come on, let's be reasonable here.

I'm talking about Prince TODAY
Maybe it is U that do not respect his musical journey and passion 4 artists owning their own

but he lacked follow through... he was there so early... but he flaked out... I think he got peeved that someone else might make a little money off him or his work that he was willing to let it all go.... the cost of letting his songs stay on youtube was zero to him...but he saw that in some cases some peopple may make a little money off of him... and he got mad.

now maybe he was and is correct... that in the long run he is better off...but i also have to think that MILLIONS of new MONEY SPENDING fans never got enough esposure to ever spend money on him... the fact is thoes that are willing to spend the money WILL ...so i think he suffered a net loss... i guess he thinks otherwise.

Look at 20ten... I had that album before the frst OFFICAL newspaper was delvered (someone here got an eary copy and it was shared. ...of course i did not take part... wink

So now he wants to put it on some streaming site and then weeks/months later sell it? If i have it by then why woiuld I?? unless it is really good....

Again Prince doesn't understand how a place like Youtube could only expose him and his career to audiences that would generally not know of him. Videos Videos Videos. No one made money off of it, but it would have gained him more money by the exposure

damn yall are fickle. none of knows history so well that you "don't need to pick up a book or do a Google search" when opining on what you think you know. That's just plain ignorant. Sorry but your opinions, which is what they are unless you have a PhD dissertation sitting around somewhere about what you state, aren't the last word on history. if you have to have a well-qualified, referenced and nuanced statement from everyone that utters an opinion, well...damn.

Your comment to "pick up a book and do a Google search" is insulting bullshit when you level it against someone who studied history and conducts historical research professionally. There's a lot of room between claiming to have the last word on history (which I never claimed) and needing to resort to Google searches to learn about history.

And what's with the paradox here? Someone can't critique Prince's statement because they need a PhD or else they need to do Google searches and read books. Yet, at the same time, Prince's generalized partial truth gets kudos. What the fuck. How about Prince pick up a book or do a Google search?

This is just irritating. I don't have any desire to carry this discussion further. Say what you want. Yes, Prince nailed history with his dumb sound bite. All police history is derived from only slave catchers and other protections of white property. I thought I was well-educated in history but you possess the universal truth. Have a nice night.

if you found that insulting, you should really go pick up a book or do a Google search. You studied history? Whoop di doo. Are we like, supposed to just know that or something via your thoughts? And does that mean you know everything there is to know about history? hell no. I studied aviation. Do I know everything there is to know about flying planes? Hell no, and I'm smart enough to know that I don't. If someone were to state a different theorry of how planes fly contrary to my training, I wouldn't dismiss it, I'd check that shit out. And I never said that you couldn't critique what Prince or anyone says, I merely stated that there are always other theories to everything, including history. Why did I know exactly what prince was talking about and you apparently did not? I didn't need more facts and shit or references, or more granular wording. THe fact that you are saying that Prince's statement is declarative of exactly what went down in history is ignorance personified.

Peace out

I'll keep this short: You're full of shit. Prince says moronic shit and you eat it up and then ask for seconds. You can't wrap your mind around the fact that other people see through Prince's imbecilic bullshit, so you lash out with nonsense like "go read a book." What a fucking waste of time.

I've been on the Org 16 years. Very few times have I seen more people talking right past each other and seeming proud of it. Are you morons being intentionally obtuse? Or do you just get off on being argumentative fucks?

Prince isn't a bright guy. He spouts bullshit and his eager fans eat it up. He learns one little fact then blows it up into conspiracy theory level explanations and pseudo-edgy horseshit.

On the contrary, I think he’s an extremely bright guy. Just because he doesn’t explain what he’s saying to your satisfaction, and you’re incapable or unwilling to read between the lines regarding what he’s getting at, doesn’t mean that his example isn’t apt. His goal in these instances isn’t to give a history lesson; he’s giving an interview for God’s sake. The reader has a choice to either be willfully dense and whine about how it’s only part truth, take it out of context, etc., or maybe do some research or thinking to see how his example fits with his broader point.

He uses an example that relates to music ownership, and in your mind he (lol) “learned one little fact and blows it up into conspiracy theory level explanations and pseudo-edgy horseshit?” No, people like you in this thread blew it up to that level. The rest of us understood it for what it was.

It's funny to see how some people react when others don't share their opinion. You have those that stick to their argument and present the merits as clearly as they can. Then you have those who, for lack of a better phrase, have a hissy-fit. You call people names like imbecil, you claim their understanding is subpar, and/or you claim anything they say is somehow a Prince-induced brainwash. And alas, my personal favorites (when you can tell a person has been so thoroughly defeated or exacerbated in their position)... "I don't even want to discuss this anymore" or "I'm out".

Oh how it must be wonderful to be the smartest person on so many subjects that so many others can't fathom the depths of your understanding.
