In between glimpses of vintage Prince, there are blasts of hip-hop, electro-funk, house and even dubstep.

The reporter is certainly having a bit of fun with the Prince/Welton romance: For example: "Welton.. came in through the back door." Or try this: "Welton found himself thrust into the producer’s chair". How about: "Now he tries to make a lot of noise coming in, so I have some warning!” Let's try: "He points over at Prince’s paddle, which no one else is allowed to touch". Oh, and this one too: “I’ve never seen [Prince] ride it". Funny.

Ha, glad to see somebody else noticed. But the title is the most SCANDALOUS of all: "What's Really Going On With Prince And His 25 Year Old Muse".

Even the reporters name seems smutty!

What are you talking about here?

Prince said there will be various versions of his new music, with Jay-Z and Kendric Lamar free to make their own versions of his tracks. So it's on Jay and Kendric then to flip his new shit into hit material, if Prince's version isn't all that. I'm cool with that. I would like it even better if Prince would go into the studio with Jay, Kanye, Rhianna, Just Blaze, Pharrell and let them write hooks around his riffs. It's worked out just fine for Paul McCartney and Nile Rodgers to collaborate in that way.

You can't polish a turd.

He should let someone like Brasstracks remix it. They've done a great job on Gallant's latest.
Of course, you don't KNOW it's a turd until you've actually heard it.

With every new upcoming record it's the same sad routine.

They drag in a reporter to write some hyperbolic nonsense about the new record as if it's the absolute peak of everything he's ever done - just like the one before, and the one before that... And we all know it won't be that. But he can't be critical or he'll never get invited again.

This comes with an interview that is not an interview but a PR talk where Prince doesn't reveal anything that's of any real importance and hasn't been said before.

The protegé then needs to fire up a speech about how blessed he is to be working with awesomness in the flesh and how different this project is from all he's ever done before.

The reporter realising he has aboslute no meat on the bone to publish then starts rehashing stuff about Prince from 80's, with a pinch of 90's and possibly something about his revolutionary way of doing business.

The end.

Bring on the dissapointing record with hopefully a glimmer of interesting music.

It saddens me that for someone who things so highly about his own art and music, he reduces his connection to his fanbase down to an empty PR talk and some mistery babble that nobody finds interesting anymore.

Agreed..i thought i missed something after reading the article when i read the comments here..but no..it makes no sense these comments..article is nothing really mysterious...he is just quiet when entering the studio...smile

Hmm, not so sure. For Lotusflower, everyone found out when the tracklist was posted on the Target website. For 20TEN, IIRC it was known only a couple of days before the release date because it leaked. But yeah, last year we got the ones for the 2 albums 1 month ahead...

The problem is more that this is not really an article but an advert disguised as an article. It's not a bad thing perse but it's basically meaningless. There's no real news or added value. I find that dissapointing to see this year after year.

You too?

I think too many people look down on Prince, acting like he has so much to learn yet he has done so much more than so many. Strange.

.

i have an issue with people who talk the talk and cannot walk the walk.

.

imo some of the loudest, most critical and denigrating little pissants on this website are probably the least productive, least creative, most unaccomplished individuals around.

.

likely, they cannot do anything that comes even close to what prince has and is doing, and to make themselves feel better about their own, lacklustre lives, they compensate by targeting someone who is head and shoulders above the crowd. easy target for malicious, underachieving little snipers

Famz: bu-bu-but Pwince doesn't care about chasing the charts!!!

Wow. I may vomit. If the album is filled with this garbage to cater to the young people, why didn't he show up last night to the VMA's TO PROMOTE IT TO A YOUNGER AUDIENCE. It's like he's begging for the album to fail, only to complain about its failure in the press and possibly blame TIDAL...

Prince has been stale for 20 years because he refused to embrace new genres. Instead he just kept repeating himself.

If Josh/Hannah have opened his eyes to new genres then that can only be a good thing. Prince fans tend to hear words like "dubstep" and groan. Most I suspect couldnt name an artist operating within that genre without googling it first.

The endless ballads and rehashed pop has to stop if he ever wants to appeal to a new audience - and he HAS to do this because he's barely selling more than 100k albums.

David Bowie put out a drum and bass influenced album in 1997. This is "experimental" because Bowie isn't a D&B artist. Prince putting out yet another pop album is in no way experimental. It's Prince playing safe and sticking to what he knows. He rarely deviates from this path. Josh is the best thing to happen to Prince in a long time.

Yes, both albums were so great Prince couldn't be arsed to promote them, can't be arsed to play the songs live, and was already hyping newer product in one of the few promotional efforts he undertook.

.

Meanwhile his concerts consist of 80% music he recorded three decades ago.

yawn

You always have that argument that he doesn't play his new songs much live, so by your simplistic logic, he doesn't like his new songs much or they're no good.

.

HE DOES ZILCH. Go on, list all of his promo he did for any album he released in the past 10 years. Go list all of the promo he did for AOA. Are those the actions of someone who is proud of the music he's recorded?

.

He plays the hits to keep casual fans happy and because his new songs are not well known outside of the hardcore base.

.

He had no problems playing next to zero hits in 1987. Or in 1995. Or in 1984-85. In 1988 half of the gig was new music. Etc.

.

Go make a list of all the songs from the albums of the past ten years which he's played live more than a handful of times. If these songs are so great, why ain't he playing them? Not even during aftershows. Not even at PP gigs. In front of HARDCORE fans, he plays his goddamn played-out hits. Oh, and covers of 1970s disco tunes.

It would be easy for Princevault to add some statistics about the hit-potential of a certain gig...

Any Princevault people in the house?
