The cover would be OK if he hadn't already done it with AOA.

When I first saw the AOA cover, all I saw was circles, and now here we are. Applying the "South Park" filter to an already perfectly cool album cover seems pointless to me, especially when he has that cool "Free Yourself" water color painting to pull from. But if we hadn't already seen it, I think most of would like it.

I am a graphic designer/illustrator and would love to design a proper cover one day for Prince. My stuff is OK. Oddly enough, Prince hasn't called me back yet.

prince made give or take 36 albums before josh and he will hopefully be able
to make another 20 after josh but for now, what josh brings to prince's sound

is great imo. at least it sounds a bit different. "Stare", although a nice enough

song sounds like a typical continuation from pre-Josh prince. he's done that,

and he can do it again, obviously. but josh seems to add a certain sound that

prince this far hasn't experimented with and i love it. i'm very glad that we at

least are getting 1 more album in that vein.

Ya'll can't blame Josh if (more than likely) this upcoming album is an stinker. Prince has been putting out stinkers long before he ever met Josh. Prince has oviously lost his creative juices. He seems to be mainly motivated by money than the art of music, and it (his recent music) definitely sounds like it.

Oddly enough, and this has fuck all to do with the album, in my freshman year at a University I was given an English paper to do that challenged me to pick two things that are simlar but different. This was in 85 or 86. I picked MJ and Prince and compared and contrasted their styles. I referred to MJ as "asexual" while Prince "hyper-sexual" and my professor asked me if I meant to say MJ was "bisexual", like he'd never heard the term "asexual". I knew exactly what I meant.

My only problem with the "South Park" - "everything is a circle" Hit And Run cover, is that all it is a cartoonish, flat reinterpretation of the AOA album. I've seen it already. It's not BAD, it's just repetitive and redundant.

Think back to the SOTT cover. That thing is brilliant. Prince is out of frame and off focus leaving behind a jam session he looks like he just wrecked. No one had seen anythig like it before. Rainbow Children was a great cover. I like the juicy, hot psychadelic over saturation of LotusFlow3r and MPLS SOund.

Man, I'm way off topic but, then, what else is there to talk about?

I'm know we've had an album covers threads. Have we ever had one where people design their own covers? That could be fun. Take one we hate and submit alternatives? Where would we put it? "Off Topic", "GD" or "Music and More"...?

Hmmm...I'm rather liking this idea. Maybe I can combine it into coming up with new portfolio pieces.

I wonder when it will officially be released. I mean, we're well into summer now, and about to start the dog days of summer.

Positive signs:

* Josh is co-producing

* The album is completed and was already played publically

* Looks like Prince is back to frequent releases

Worries:

* it's going to suck

* Prince is going appear in public with another 18 year old girl whose career will be affected negatively

* Larry Graham might publically surface again with his big ass moustache

From the housequake FB page: NEW ALBUM! 'The Hit & Run' coming 'soon'...

BBC 6music radio had an exclusive interview with 3rdEyeGirl this morning (or seemingly just Hannah) in which they revealed a new album has been completed by Prince & Josh entitled 'The Hit & Run'. Hardrocklover is from that album and the album was played in full at the recent Obama event apparently. More details to follow. Check out the BBC iPlayer (if UK resident) to hear the interview.

And the album leaked already which is WHY i have said streaming a full record is DUMB, snippets are one thing, or a Youtube Album player where you do 30 second spots and add tracks as you go, good idea, but streaming an album before, and then releasing the cd, dont get the idea.

I think they are hoping for positive word of mouth. Though the NY Times already called it crap and said Josh wasn't up to the task.
