Yesterday at work, 2 different people asked me if I heard Prince has a new album coming and to both I replied, "Yeah, we'll see." and explained that new Prince albums being announced but never materializing is common. Both seemed surprised to hear this.

So, that got me thinking: if non-fans are hearing and talking about this one, maybe it will actually happen?

Here's hoping. wink

Wonder where they heard the news?

I didn't ask but certainly from mainstream sources.

Very negative response 4 a so called prince fan...disbelief

The response should have been "Yes he has a new album coming out! BUT because he is so gifted. He has a hard time deciding out of hundreds of "Masterpieces" which album to use."

Listen Mr. Eyerolls:

First, I'm a Prince fan, not a prince fan. I'm a fan of the musician and artist not of the symbol which is merely his logo and not his name.

Second, it's not negative it's realistic based on experience. Perhaps you can share your copies of Roadhouse Gardens, Crystal Ball II, 20Ten Deluxe, Purple Rain Remaster or either of the Montreux "Releases" (to name just a few), that were announced but never seemed to show up in stores, and prove me wrong. No?

Lastly, I would never refer to his "hundreds of ''Masterpieces''" because I know the definition of the word masterpiece. For some reason you continue to use it even though it has been pointed out to you multiple times that your improper use defeats the words purpose.

That's what I always say when people ask me about his lovelife. "Yes he has a new bout of horniness coming on. BUT because he is so [CENSORED], he has a hard time deciding out of hundreds of Masterpieces which woman to use"

Seriously? I don't believe any announced project is really happening until I see it listed on distributor release schedules. To answer your question as to why: umm, experience...

lol

What? You didn't receive the announcement about the super duper, extra cool, totally not gonna suck this time, new website? It's $1999 for a lifetime membership and I hear as it has a download of the videos for "Kiss", "Little Red Corvette", "TMBGITW" and a 30 second snippet of "U Got the Look" from the SOTT DVD.

Tell us you're opinion on "Purple and Gold" and "Wedding Feast". If Prince is sitting on a pile of pure gold singles and those are the ones he pulled out to share with us, where do those fit into the masterpiece lexicon and what does it say about what he DIDN'T let us hear?

On second thought, forget all that shit and just opine on "Purple and Gold" and "Wedding Feast" to start with.

U even listing ALL THAT! Shows & reaffirms how brilliant prince is, 4 coming up with ways, on how to release ALL of his muziq. Then it's still THOUSANDS in the vault unheard.

Plus the trouble U went through to get them, shows it must of not bothered U that much. U still seeked them & the info ALL out!

Well, yes--we've got them all--but (a lot of us) have most of the unreleased stuff too. We're insane.
err nutty
As far as the rest of the world's concerned, though, these albums aren't examples of great ways Prince came up with to release music. They are, for all intents and purposes, also unreleased, because people haven't heard of them and can't get them without going to extreme (or even dodgy) measures.

I never said Prince wasn't brilliant.
.
That's a list I came up with typing 80 wpm without having to stop once to come up with examples of why the general public lacks the attention span or any reason to care about Prince's studio releases. Brilliant musicians are not brilliant marketers - the proof is in everything Prince has done since 1993. It's a two-plus decade-long case study of how to find success despite figuring out endless creative ways to make yourself inaccessible and then complain about how mainstream radio and the music industry is broken. Tell us something we don't already know. It drove one of the world's most talented musicians into a distant sideshow.
.
It doesn't bother me seek out his releases. While it doesn't bother me, most people simply will not bother.
.
Rather, it saddens me that so much great music goes unheard. I do hope the next release will be different. But I don't have any reason to believe it will be. I'll just hang out until the undoubted handful of gems eventually surface.

That is the example I was making! U giving a non or barely casual fan, those list of ALL the releases that never happened. To me, that would intrigue most, that didn't know he had all that muziq waiting 2 b released. But your example is noted. We can agree to disagree.

"AWESOME! Can I join?" "No."
.
"Wasn't he on David Letterman singing something off an album he said would never be released, but then it was"? "Yes."
.
"Wasn't he going to rework Revolution-era songs and then didn't?" "Yeah."
.
"Did he sing a fight song for the Vikings?" *runs the other way*

.

And some of us wonder why Prince can't find a commercial following for his studio releases?? Only dedicated freaks can follow what he does, and apparently he likes it that way. And don't blame the messenger - the fact that I can recite the instances above should get me a purple trophy.

Yeah, you know I don't think people care that much about how these things were originally made available, and the masses certainly aren't too interested in acoustic bonus CD's like "The Truth". If CD's were made and they want them, they'll get them off eBay or Amazon.

FYI, "Planet Earth" was never available in stores in countries that actually had the newspaper giveaways, IIRC. It certainly wasn't here in the UK - I had to purchase the digipack edition in the US on a visit, and I have about 10 copies of the card-sleeve, first from the newspaper giveaway and second because you got one with every ticket at the London O2 shows.

A US release of 20Ten was planned and ultimately cancelled, so I'm told. It certainly wasn't Prince's intention to only release it in Europe.

You act as if Prince doesn't want to do big promotion. He does - for some albums. Not for others. Look at 3121. Big release on Universal Records, some huge promo like American Idol, hell I attended a very lavish listening party held by the label in London and lots of money had been spent on it. Same with AOA - there will electronic billboards all over the tube stations in London and those don't come cheap. Both those records you can find in any high st record store (the ones that still exist), on iTunes, on all the streaming services. Musicology was widely available too.

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

Thus says the Lord: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place. For if you will indeed obey this word, then there shall enter the gates of this house kings who sit on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their servants and their people. But if you will not obey these words, I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.

And by "this house" he probably meant the Org.

From what I hear, the entire bible is about the Org.

I understand that every release over the past 20+ years has a unique story. That's part of what makes every album interesting after so many of them. I guess the run will be over when every bridge is burned?
.
I'd like to see a level of professionalism in each release, though. Prince is the consummate live act and is never unprepared to please on stage. The opposite seems true with studio work, especially getting it into people's hands.
.
Please, please prove me wrong with this newest album. I'm begging for it.
