Nope. I suggested he lay off the gel and go with mousse, that way he'd have softer waves. I was told, "He can wear gel in his hair if he wants to. You just don't understand Black folks hair."

As for the press and curl comment, if he's not going to maintain the fro properly and he no longer uses chemical relaxers, then a press and curl was a damn good suggestion but it was only that...a suggestion. You mfers are acting like I tackled him on the street and tried to press his hair.

I've made several negative critiques about Prince's art, especially how "I Wonder U" is listless music with a vocal delivery that sounds like porn acting and how most studio bootlegs, even those of the Eighties, rarely compare favorably to the officially released work. Also, while I love "Colonized Mind" as one of my now favorite top-ten Prince songs, I have also stated that I think it is a blatant rip-off of "Quit It" as well as having co-signed other negative critiques of Prince's art, so, nice try, but try again to cover your motives.

and me bringing my hair up is pretty legitimate to this debate. to highlight that I and others too dont have a problem going straight again as an individual choice, but to have people make that suggestion and go as far as taking "pride" into appearance is the issue of debate that I have. If that makes your racism or self-hatred feel better, then so be it. I'm just glad that I was raised by parents who taught me to love my wooly African hair and the wooly hair of other Africans. Including myself, I know people who only wash and comb their hair because we know it's beautiful despite living in a world that tries to tell us differently. Now, if somebody wants to do something different or unique to their hair, that's their business. Even if one decides to erase parts or aspects of their Africanness because they view Africanness as being less stylish/beautiful than a Euro-centric style, that's their business--self-hating as it is. But, again, I find it strange that whenever Prince's aesthetic moves toward a more African or Afro-centric style, there are problems. So, y'all just continue to celebrate African people straightening their hair, lightening their skin, and reducing their lips and noses while acting like that celebration has nothing to do with racism and self-hate.

I love the fro, I just think the picture isn't so good

technically Prince isn't 'African' not even genetically, he is AfriEuro genetically (I'm not defining him here) But I think he just needs someone to style his fro
