Oh hell yes! I most certainly do! wink

In every one of those pics of Questlove, his 'fro is not dry looking, the ends have been trimmed and it's been picked out properly.

By extreme glaring contrast, Prince's 'fro looks very dry, lopsided and frankly, quite..."disheveled". kiss2

My problem isn't that he's wearing a 'fro. My problem is that his 'fro is freaking jacked, when I happen to KNOW- even though I don't know him personally - HE of all people is able and capable of doing MUCH better than what's been recently wtinessed! geek

Questlove's hair is your idea of trimmed? lol

If your problem isn't that he's wearing fro then why suggest in the OP that he get a press and curl?

How many more times you gonna move the goalpost?

Upon looking at Questlove's hair, it dawned on me what accoutrement Prince is missing - a pick jutting out the side of his damn head. His fro as it stands now is like a face missing a nose. Prince needs a pick! That would really make some people lose their sh*t.

LMAO! falloff

Those are the same ones that we have to set up a suicide hot line for every time he's onstage with a woman darker than a paper bag. lol

I hope Prince goes all Questlove on they asses.

Questlove conditions, moisturizes, gets his ends trimmed and keeps a pick on hand to tighten up his 'fro as needed. Please Prince, go all Questlove on my ass. That'll certainly teach me! evillol

Yet but quest keeps his fro unshaped.

Thanks OFFS and 1725....waaaay too much information though. lol

I was only asking if the younger guys routinely make detailed observations about each other's style the way you comment about Prince's. My observation was that it's less common with older guys.

*

While I think we agree that the OP is full of it, I think that your notions about this being a generational thing is a bit sweeping for two points. One, this is the first time I have spent this much time discussing Prince's style, and I'm only doing so to show that the OP's issue with style is really a cultural or racial issue. Two, I think it is more of a cultural/background thing than a generational thing. It may not be common for you and your friends, but I'm 45, my father is 68, and fashion has always been up for socio-political discussion in my household with my father's friends and my friends.

It is also a strong possibility that Prince's hair texture isn't 100% of his African genetics

Even in that pic and I've seen many others from early days and from the RNRLoveAffair video

that he has a little curliness to his hair vs Questlove

Which could cause his hair to need a different kind of attention to make sure it's right for photos.

Go wild when rocking out on stage

Hair is delicate. When someone has been relaxing for a number of years transitioning can be traumatic to the hair. You would not believe how thin my hair was the first time I did it. It took nearly a year to get back to normal thickness.

His life, his hair, end of.

In any case it's hardly panic worthy...pretty man still pretty. lol

.

.

.

We all know how attentive P. is to his appearance. I seriously doubt he is being in any way neglectful or careless with his hair (though it is perhaps meant to look that way just for this photo.). I think his afro was intentionally styled to take on the dishevelled appearance you mentioned so that it goes with the overall Rock ‘n’ Roll aesthetic of the shot.

.

IMO Aerogram probably said it best when they stated something to the effect that Prince is simply sporting a Jimi Hendrix style cut here. I Googled some pics; looks like Aero was right on the money:

[img:$uid]http://i1258.ph.../img:$uid]

[img:$uid]http://i1258.ph.../img:$uid]

.

P. certainly seems to have modeled part of his look after Jimi for this photo, so his afro is similarly unbounded and wild.

.

The angle that his head is turned, in combination with the 'do hanging a bit over his right eye, gives it what you called a "lop-sided" appearance (though I personally don't see it as being that accentuated). Compare the two pics of Jimi and you’ll see how different they are in terms of symmetry. Prince's photo is actually very stylized; Similar to the first Hendrix pic, the Prince pic features a number of asymmetrical visual elements: his gaze, turn of head, triangular piece of hair (reminds me of ‘80s new wave?), and shadow are off to the (our) left; the halo of light and guitar lean right; only one hand is visible; the guitar is multicolored with irregular flame-like designs; colors on his clothes and guitar do not match or coordinate. The jacket is his signature color from Purple Rain with the left sleeve visibly ripped. Look more closely and you’ll see the edges of the jacket are frayed--much like his hair is in the shot. We can all agree Prince can afford an intact jacket as much as a hairdresser so the frayed appearance of both is clearly intentional.

.

You don’t have to like it, but maybe this will help you understand it.

.

A rock star is supposed to look a little rough and tumble. That seems to be all P. is doing here, he's just way better than most rockers at looking pretty while doing it. cool

We're just getting started. biggrin

The latest according to Aerogram is that Hatrina is the cause of Princey suddenly deleting his social media accounts. This is the thanks he gets for getting waterboarded for our listening pleasure on AOC.

And we haven't even begun to explore the mystery of who's sucking on his bottom lip yet. evillol
