Dull performance. It wasn't 'bad' but just... dull, servicable, okay. 3rdEyeGirl have run their course. I don't know why he has kept this band so long, it's not like him. Of all the bands he chooses to keep he goes with this? neutral His afro looked terrible as well, you could see right through it.

I might sound overly negative but I really don't mean to be. I honestly think it's the band. They limit him and the material

So, we obviously saw Prince, 3rdeyegirl, Josh, Liv, and Liana. But, who was the other guy on rhythm guitar (behind Prince's keyboard setup) during AnotherLove?

It was a great raw rock performance, as intended. You sound like a little bitch!

You do sound extremely negative and more than little fussy -- this was a very ambitious set and the band did justice to all of the material, which happened to be the new stuff (that alone was a relief, especially Clouds and Another Love).

Clouds doesn't work in this context. And Marz never needs to be performed anywhere, ever. Thankfully he saved it with Another Love. His insistence on a medley rather than committing to 2 individual songs during the standard 2 spots is a bit frustrating, but he managed to save it by the end.

Don't see the need for personal attacks like but, okay. We've been getting 'raw rock' for far too long. An instrumental guitar track on SNL? Not good promotion and not what people want to hear, myself included.

It just wasn't exciting. Where was the energy and the passion that we all expect from Prince? He seems bored. I wonder when he last had a proper funk workout? If he has recently it sure as hell wasn't with 3rdEyeGirl.

Gohi

Prince never ever sings a melody correctly anymore. The chorus of Another Love was dreadful, as was all of Clouds. Does he just not show up to rehearsal or something? One of his worst TV performances.

SNL should have just given 3EG 30 min. The show sucked but Prince and 3EG killed it. Will I watch SnL again? No. What if Prince is performing? Yes, I will sit through it! Hopefully why the coals are still hot we get another tv performance soon.

And sorry but that was NOT an 8 minute 'jam' It wasn't even a medley. They just awkwardley went into the next song. They didn't flow, there was no creative transitions they just started the next song no matter what they key or tempo.

Prince has never been about the norm so performing an instrumental within a medley makes perfect sense. If you want normal can find plenty bands that will be on SNL performing two songs, two spot and they will likely play the same songs the same way on late night and be the same singles pushed to radio. Bands that will play the songs start to finish like on the album. The great thing about Prince we could have gotten Empty Room! We don't know.

I havent watched SNL in years - I am taken aback with how lame it is even with Chris Rock and Leslie Jones. THey needed PRINCE to make this even worth watching.

Yeah, I heard that ratings for SNL were going down the toilet, I wonder if tonight changed that a little?

Let me start by saying that I really liked the performance. I'd give it a B+. The only negative is that for some reason medleys for Prince on television are not nearly as organic as they are during a concert. I don't know if it's the "being rushed for time" aspect of television, but his performance of medleys seems to be slightly off. That being said, the transitions between songs were not horrible, just not...organic or as smooth as they could be. Yet, besides a few pitch/off key things, the singing was good and the playing well done. I love everything about the guitar playing. I assumed that for the SNL audience it would be a bit more rock based, which is cool with me. If he does something at the BET Awards (not the BET Hip Hop Awards) I'd assume that "The Gold Standard" and "U Know" would be front and center, but I've been wrong before. So, overall, I really like this performance. To provide perspective, I like these eight minutes more than his appearance on American Idol, and it is equal to his performance of "Fury" while slightly ahead of "Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed". Can't wait for more.

That was awesome! Prince, 3EG & Lianna (and Liv!) turned SNL OUT. Fabulous choice of songs too. So glad he did at least one song off of AOA. And it was a treat seeing him start out on keyboards. Surprised he did more PE songs but I like that he promoted the album more and showed off his rock 'n' roll chops. And SO glad he did "Anotherlove".

.

The 70's funk styles in goth-black were very cool and worked well for the numbers they performed. P. had his third-eye shades goin' on, Donna was a monster on the guitar and Ida looked like the high priestess of bass.

.

Loved the entire medley. Fantastic performance!

Totally agree I totally enjoyed the performance! Agree SNL is wack these days, and they need big musical acts to get viewers. Enjoyed the Plectrum tracks and Clouds Rocked!

I agree. His hair was a mess.... quite a distraction. But he obviously likes it. He had the same problem with backlighting when he was on New Girl. Looks crazy. How is no one on his staff handling that?

The Afro fits his rock-heavy Hendrix aesthetic but he can't really pull it off.

Clouds was wack. It bugs me that he still puts up pretty girls who can't sing. But I LOVED it when he put on his axe and tore it up.

He got much Twitter love. I was actually surprised by that.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

The only real problem with the performance was that the singing was questionable. "Clouds" sounded messy, as neither Prince nor Lianne was singing the song like on the record and the two voices just didn't mix together that well. Hannah's background vocals were off-key during "Another Love" - she was playing the drums and apparently wasn't able to pull of doing the vocals that well at the same time. They should have just made Shelby's singing in the background louder (say what you want about her, but she can sure hit the right notes despite how bad the monitoring might be).
