If you like an instrument and it's optimized for your playing style than someone else smashing it to just look cool isn't really an "honor".

Exactly.

No matter what anyone else would do in his shoes, Kirk has every right to be upset about this (and from his latest tweet that Serpan posted earlier, he is).

Prince should really do his best to make it right before Carnegie - can you imagine Kirk being part of some huge tribute to the dude who recklessly smashed his guitar not a week earlier?

... but seriously though, what he did on that show and how the guitar started feeding back was cool. lol

If he'd used one of his guitars (heck, even if he'd bought one especially for the show), it would have been very cool and I would have been laughing and throwing around the "rock god" quips that I've seen here, but he didn't.

Why on earth does Prince need to borrow a guitar? Did he forget his hohner? The thing he takes with him everywhere? The thing that apparently stays next to his bed when he sleeps? Could he not have used his vox? If it wasn't a setup, the only logical explanation was that he borrowed Kirk's guitar because he knew he was going to smash it at the end and didn't want to damage his.

That makes the whole stunt much, much less cool and seriously took the shine off the entire performance for me.

I'm with Kirk on this - can we please stop rewarding bad behaviour? The days of rockstars throwing TVs out the window is over. If you want to ruin perfectly good equipment, then at least make sure it's yours to destroy.

Have to say I loved the 'Bambi' performance. guitar.

About Kirk's guitar, well, hopefully Prince will buy Kirk a new guitar before the Carnegie tribute. Would be the right thing to do.

That's a question that either Prince or Kirk could only answer. It's interesting that more people emphathize over the discontinuation of the Le Petite Prince doll than the damage of a valuable instrument that was recklessly destroyed.

Maybe it's because I'm a dad but I think framing the guitar is a little like rewarding bad behavior.

It's only "rewarding bad behavior" if he frames it and gives it to Prince. lol

Will be interesting to see if this goes any further.

I suspect it had something to do with asthetics, the color of the guitar.

It looked good with the 3rd eye cover and the Bambi asthetic, looks like bambi and vintage.

I think it was a great performance (Prince at Jimmy Fallon), but I think Jack has got Prince wanting to show off his tricks too. I've been comparing Jack to Prince since Jack came on the scene.

Yeah, for sure, but he's failing, and badly. In regards to the band as a unit on Fallon, I thought the performance was awful. That damn beginner-level drummer was atrocious. The guitar player was alright, but seemed rushed and very nervous. That nonchalant bassist, while excellent in skill, played as if she's only tolerating this juvenile setup for a check. And then this Captain Kirk guy's guitar gets broken in a corny tantrum.

So once again, Jack makes Prince look like an old man waving his fist in the air towards a television at a retirement center.

I'm not convinced that quote is for real. I couldn't find it on Kirk's Facebook page. I did find this though, "Prince rocked hard on Jimmy Kimmel tonight. Played his latest Screwdriver and one of my favorites Bambi with an all new female band". Could be he is just trying to be polite and professional but it doesn't sound too upset to me.

I found the quote on Dr. Funkenberry's FB page, and Stephan Fischer apparently saw it and wrote it in his post underneath the top story.

I suppose we can assume its real then (despite the lack of the original source) sounds like it could be. Interesting that it has been removed from Kirk's page however.

Seriously though, take a look at the footage. Prince throws the guitar high in the air and it looks like the cable pulls it back after it reaches a certain point. Could it have been the case that he intended to throw it to his guitar tech like he does with his own guitars when he's used wireless systems? It doesn't necessarily look like he intended to break the guitar on purpose.
