Prince knows how to make the fans keep talking. smile I agree strange he borrowed the guitar but whether it was planned or not we don't know. But I would think he would replace it if it wasn't planned.

I'd happily let him break my guitar though!lol

Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

All these people saying that Kirk should be honoured, or that he can afford to replace it, or that he already owns heaps of guitars, or that no doubt Prince would pay for the repairs, etc...

None of it changes the fact that he smashed another musician's instrument.

Maybe that one had sentimental value. Maybe that's not how Kirk treats his guitars.

I realise it might have been setup (although, as others have said, from the look on his face and the subsequent twitter postings, I'm not convinced), but if not, then it was downright disrespectful.

Prince doesn't get to decide whether it's a big deal or not if he smashes it - it's not his guitar.

falloff Ok, that's funny.

And yes, of course, ultimately it's between Prince and Kirk.

I'm just surprised to see how many people (who aren't necessarily allowing for the possibility of it being set up) seem to be in support of what I feel was a mean and disrepectful thing to do.

he had to let it land on the ground because thats what Jack White did at the Grammys

Of course. I can believe that. He's been ripping Jack a lot lately. It's like he heard or saw that fucking tough "Freedom At 21," got kicked in the ego, and thus frantically started this washed-out 3 girl shit to prove a point.

So 3rd Eye Girl is 2013's Black Album?

I wonder which video will have the hidden "Please don't buy 3rd Eye Girl. I'm sorry" message? hmmm

I thought it was funny. From the tweets about the situation, it sounded like Kirk wanted Prince to sign it but Prince didn't want to. He borrowed it to probably give him a story. And you don't get much of a better story than "Prince borrowed this for a blistering performance before smashing"

You know that guitar was going to get retired regardless. P just does stuff with style lol

there's music in the air

LMAO! There was a story here not long ago, I'm sure y'all remember it, about a concert where Prince threw his guitar out to the audience and somebody caught it and thought they could keep it. The Org Prince Apologists Society were going going in deep, criticizing the guy because "that was Prince's property" and "the guy should have respected the fact that it didn't belong to him."

Well, wtf? Last night, that was Kirk's property and Prince should have respected the fact that it didn't belong to him, right?

Prince borrowed Kirk's guitar and broke it, not by playing it but by taking it and throwing on the floor, on live television. The decent thing for Prince to do would be to buy the guy another guitar. The decent and classy thing for Prince to do would be to buy the guy another guitar and autograph it.

Though no one has ever accused Prince of being decent and classy, so there's that. Good luck, Kirk.

Hell, if Prince doesn't take the decent or decent and classy approach, take the broken one and put it on Ebay. I'm sure somebody around here would pay a ridiculous price for it. lol

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Especially since it happened on national TV. Even if Prince didn't sign it, its provenance has been established. lol

Maybe it's because I'm a dad but I think framing the guitar is a little like rewarding bad behavior.

It's only "rewarding bad behavior" if he frames it and gives it to Prince. lol

If you like an instrument and it's optimized for your playing style than someone else smashing it to just look cool isn't really an "honor".

... but seriously though, what he did on that show and how the guitar started feeding back was cool. lol

Yeah, for sure, but he's failing, and badly. In regards to the band as a unit on Fallon, I thought the performance was awful. That damn beginner-level drummer was atrocious. The guitar player was alright, but seemed rushed and very nervous. That nonchalant bassist, while excellent in skill, played as if she's only tolerating this juvenile setup for a check. And then this Captain Kirk guy's guitar gets broken in a corny tantrum.

So once again, Jack makes Prince look like an old man waving his fist in the air towards a television at a retirement center.
