PRINCE: Bi-Racial Biography

Has anyone read this?

http://www.barnesandnoble...1422216286

It's a biography series specializing in notable biracials.

I wonder how accurate this biography might be.

For a transgendered bi-racial, I really think he's achieved things.

"On the back cover of the book, it says, "Prince, son of a black father and a white mother." Then in the actual text of the book, it says Prince's father is black and mother is multiracial. I think they lied on the back cover to get those who wish Prince was at least 50% white to buy their product.
Many may remember in "Under a Cherry Moon" when Prince called Jerome "chocolate," but himself "butterscotch." However, that's because Prince is LIGHT-SKIN'DED. Prince ain't Mariah or Halle or Obama. He is plain, ol' Black just like me and most Black folk!
What this book doesn't cover is that Prince LIED about this multiraciality. Some say Prince claims to be part Italian. However, many magazines and documentaries have shown photos of his parents and stress that Prince has two Black parents who wouldn't be deemed anything besides Black in the United States. I know some Filipino Americans who said Prince was part Filipino and that's hogwash too. Prince may chant about "I wish there was no Black or white," but that doesn't mean he's neither. The book could have touched on something that it didn't: Prince has a romantic preference for mixed-race women.
To be fair, the book doesn't say "biracial this" and "biracial that" on every other page. It speaks about his childhood, start in music, hits, and misses. Surprisingly, there's only one page at most about "Purple Rain," the soundtrack or the film.
Like the Beyonce book in this series, these bookmakers have reversed things and somehow deemed that any Black person with one drop of white blood is biracial. On "African American Lives 2," dark-complected Don Cheadle learned that he's 20% white. Is this Biracial Achievers series gonna include him too one day?! Gimme a break!"

^^^^a review posted on the book from amazon. com.......this guy was just trying to sell books obviously FOH. boxing bored

I thought Prince once said that they had never been able to find out who his mother's father was, so there is a possibility I guess.

Actually he may be biracial like most African Americans as the National Geographic geo nome survey showed the average Afriocan American is 18 % European DNA, 77% Sub saharan African and 5% other (Usually Asian or Native American).

All true, African Americans have moved a genetic distance from their African ancestors, the last authenticated slave ship to arrive in the USA was in 1859, so all African Americans will have at least 150 years or 6 or 7 generations to gain this non African DNA in their make up.

Of course I do not mean recent African migrants or West Indian Black Americans.

Well, what will top all of that is that genetics prove that ALL OF US HUMANS originated from Africa... This percentage shit needs to stop... razz lol

That's what my grandfather claimed for years...even though his last name was Weisman?!!

Do you know how and when his ancestors adopted that surname?

Sounds German to me.

Weis means White.

It could refer to him being a man from the White clan.

I don't know how and when the Germans got surnames.

I know that Dutch people were obliged to adopt a surname under the reign of Napoleon.

And people chose their occupation as a surname or something carachteristic, or referring to be the son of ....

I'm trying to figure out the female ancestor line of my mother and the Napoleon records have been helpful (and more confusing).

My ancestors have named the first names after grandparents, which also makes my search somewhat easier. I've signed up at family tree. I found a woman in Canada, who I correspond with about our ancestors!

I see you've probably seen Spencer Wells' documentary "The Journey of Man: A Genetic Odyssey. The link posted in Ottie's thread.

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/30502963/

Excerpt from article:

Africans have more genetic variation than anyone else on Earth, according to a new study that helps narrow the location where humans first evolved, probably near the South Africa-Namibia border.

The largest study of African genetics ever undertaken also found that nearly three-fourths of African-Americans can trace their ancestry to West Africa.....

....... "Now we have spectacular insight into the history of the African population ... the oldest history of mankind.

"Everybody's history is part of African history because everybody came out of Africa," Ibrahim said.

^There...that should do it.

I found this interesting genetic diversity quiz on PBS.org on a topic called "Race: The power of illusion"
