I've stated this for a while now. I think people are liking these tracks just because it's new Prince music. The melodies and hooks or even the simple passion or spark are sorely missing in almost all of these tracks, and a lot of folks here seem to go gaga over it just because it's something new from Prince or because they're hearing his voice on a record. They go into it wanting so desperately to love it that even IF they hate it upon first listen, they'll make themselves like it after a few spins, and they probably don't even know they're doing it.

The "Quack" theory works both ways. Just like there are trolls who will call everything a "Masterpiece," There are trolls who will hate every single thing he records. Bart Van Halen, for example, probably hasn't liked a song since 1988, yet spends probably as much time as I do listening to it. I like the fact that I actually LISTEN to all of his studio work instead of just HEARING it. I then actually form an opinion.

I do happen to like most of Prince's recent studio work. I just am not too into the 3rd Eye Girl concept, or the songs. I really dig RnR Affair, which puts me in the minority, but am still warming up to Breakfast...

In fact, RnR and Boyfriend are the only ones of these that I really like. The rest are all average to below average to me so far.

Would probably rank them so far like this:

Have yet to hear That Girl Thang. I am going to pay legit for all of these, but due to all the bugs, I have downloaded them from free sources, but I have never gone longer than a few weeks without making sure Prince is paid by me for his work. He obviously can't have a site where you can simply quickly download the song without having to check an email and all that crap. NPGMC may have ended in a 77 Lotus Flow3r street massacre with our "lifetime" membership, but at least those were easy, and I never had a bug. (Hey Prince, technology is even easier now than in 2002, get with the times, dude!)

All the Jamie Lewis Remixes of RnR Affair are almost unlistenable to me, and not really able to rank those. I think track 3 might be the best after the Original mixes, but don't really think I will listen to those again. I bought the physical cd, as I will always pay for his physical cds. Good thing the Original Extended Mix and Original Single Mix are on here, as I would not have been too happy with just the remixes, and it would've ended up in my storage with my Toaster Oven and Dance 4 Me single.

Just listened to "that girl thang", and i like it, I feel like alot of people, sometimes the raw, emotional, acoustic is lovely, and he does it well.

I have waited 4 days to work out how to download the first song I purchased, so thankyou to "Serpan" (I think his name is) in the discussion on problems with downloading. I am the least skilled in computer technology, but found it quite easy following the steps, now I have two songs.

relax fella. If your not one of the overly positive quacks or the overly negative quacks then there really is no need for you to defend your position. Of course I agree about it working both ways but in that particular post I was commenting specifically on the one side of the overly positive "Prince can shit in my hand" orgers. Personally, I'm more like you in the sense that I listen to the songs with an unbiased ear. So far the only song I have distaste for is that girl thang. otherwise the recent output has been pretty good.

i did. changed up the balance a bit and tweak the tones. sounds good my way, especially when i sing along

It should be. One listen to 90% of all remixes since 1992 for most artists just don't do it for me. Too many songs got that lame house beat treatment where they all sounded the same. I've always preferred alternate mixes or extended mixes. I can't remember enjoying the Cream remix cd even once.

There's a list of available files, with a download link right under the file. I right-click, save, and that's it. Why do so many other people have a completely different experience? (or for that matter, why did your quote suddenly shrink while I was doing this?)

Maybe I can get the letters to shrink even smaller. After the last Prince web venture did not work out well for me, I decided to wait and see what happened with others. Since Prince refuses to buy anything at cost, and as a rule only pays below the cheapest possible prices for damn near anything, it is no shock to me that many are having problems. When you buy cheap, you get cheap.

It's not odd that the process has been seamless for some, but before Prince gets my money, there can't be so many complaints. So I have "stolen" the songs for the time being, but Prince has and always will get my money. I can just have them now at no risk, and pay when the kinks are gone. If he puts it on a physical cd, I will buy them yesterday. Even though these are not my favorite new Prince songs...but most of them are at least average.

Like I said in my above post, if he could have a pretty seamless process in 2002, he should be able to in 2013, but when you hire Acme Coyote Cheap IT, Inc to do your websites, you can expect some issues.

Not me. I love it. The guitar playing is absolutely beautiful. Almost like he's painting a picture of the girl he's singing about with the chords. Its very soft and romantic as if Prince is in a daze.

Agreed. The NPGMC store was a fine thing, if only it had continued. And I understand some hesitation--so far, the only thing that those who hesitate have lost is the longer "movie" version of the "Screwdriver" video (they seem to have fixed the bug that left it available), and that's not much of a loss. I hope things don't start disappearing, but you never know with Prince. The whole thing could go away tomorrow.

Bought it a while back... Finally listened to this track...and I love it. Reminds me of skipping stones on a clear lake with a sunny sky overhead...thinking about that first crush you ever had... Age has nothing to do with that...
