He's definitely sprung! Also, I could be completely wrong but I don't think AA's out of the picture. I think this is about her...who knows though could be about anyone. Also he references, "a smile that can weaken any man i swear" in "If I Was King" and he references "his favorite smile.." in this song...who knows. Fun to guess at who is inspiring these songs.

As soon as I read "acoustic song" on this forum my heart sank a bit. I'm not usually a fan of purely acoustic Prince songs, and this one hasn't changed my mind.
I don't really like it. It's by far my least favourite of the songs realeased so far through 3rdEyeGirl.
I will give it more listens but this could possibly be my least favourite Prince song ever.
Just my personal opinion ... everything else from 3rdEyeGirl has been fantastic. | |

Just click on it! Sjeesh! I mean: see how easy CD's are? And how stupid properietary OSses are? They can't even handle archives in an intuitive enough manner. (and some people even pay for that stuff!)

He doesn't reference anything in If I Was King, he didn't write it! He co-wrote Superconductor, The Calm and Long Gone.
That out the way, the new song... Listened once will listen again but it wasn't on instant repeat. I absolutely love that he has an outlet for this and I absolutely love that it has been released but this is one that I'll have to be in the mood for as opposed to something I can listen to anytime.
While it's not my thang, I'm sure that if this was a newly surfaced 80's outtake everyone would go mental for it and ask why he isn't doing stuff like this today.

I think this is the kind of song that is for the fan who wants to hear EVERYTHING. I agree with the assessments that it sounds like an impromptu, hastily recorded kind of thing. Like a sketch of an idea that was "jotted down."
As it is, I don't think it will be getting a lot of replays from me. However, It sounds like it could make a nice interlude on an album of love songs.

Ahhhhh... What extremely beautiful guitar playing from Prince!!  would really love to hear this with guitar only. Wonder if P picked up a few tips from Andy McKee with the style he's playing? Sorry, just wish I cud put down 100 love heart emoticons for this little gem!  Absolutely beautiful lyrics too. Funny part "If I don't get clean real soon, it might b a minute b4 I make her swoon" I for one certainly do not care how long long it's been since u showered Mr Nelson! Oh & all u all having trouble with this cuz it's a zip file... Even me, the most crappest person in the world at computer stuff managed it all in my own! Unzipped it in2 a wav, which slipped easily in2 my iTunes, then my iPhone & it's been constant repeat for about an hour, kissing & caressing my mind whilst I clean up the hoose!
