By the way, the beauty of any art form is that it is subjective... We all have the right to like or dislike certain things, but it's rather silly to fight about it..

And for those unhappy to have paid for something they don't like, I remember back in the days buying $12 CDs because I liked just one song and ended up having paid for 10 extra songs I didn't like...

88cents is nothing compared to that ANd I kinda like the element of surprise, it's kinda like buying a lottery ticket, u just don't know what u're gonna win ;p

How many times have we said (well, some of us, anyway), "I wish I could get more of a sense of Prince's creative process? I'd love to hear the evolution of a song." That's what this is. He's letting us into the studio (or maybe his living room) as a fly on the wall. This is a gift, people. Recognize it.

I have said many times that some of my favorite bootlegs are rehearsals. I love to hear him working out arrangements and sound, and cueing the band. Maybe it's my own work as an actor, but I often find the process more interesting than the finished product. I'm really grateful to Prince for letting me get a glimpse into his journey for 88 cents.

YES!

I totally agree with all of your sentiments here! smile

You ain't never LIE! LOL

Yes, I agree with this, too. It is very special to hear a song in its raw form like this. I personally also love rehearsals and soundchecks and all that gives us a glimpse of the process when a genius is at work. I do appreciate this (sketch of a) song very much.

Exactly my thoughts! We used to buy CDs that cost a lot more, and with a bit of bad luck we may have liked only one or two, maybe three songs. So we paid a lot more money for 2 or 3 songs that we listened to over and over again, while the rest of the songs on the CD were quickly forgotten. Now we get one song at a time for just 88 cents - if Prince's new music is not worth even that much to some people, then they have no business calling themselves fans! (IMHO)

um... how exactly are we suppose to rip the songs to a cd if their in .wave and .zip files?????

I can't even listen to the shit in my car because of that. Screwdriver and Breakfast, I could burn but not Boyfriend or That Girl. Am I suppose to listen to the new songs strictly on my computer????

The CD standard is WAV format. Sure, you can make an MP3 CD, many players will play those now, but, if you rip a store-bought CD without converting the files, you will have WAVs.

First of all, I like the song.

And I appreciate the intimate spontaneity of this recording, BUT: I do find the breath pops on the microphones to be quite irritating. Especially when you're listening with headphones - it kind of ruins some lush moments...

But the overall sentiment is very nice indeed!

Does it say "demo" on the 3rdEyeGirl website? Nope! Did we pay to download it? Yes!

This isn't a bootleg. It's an official release and we're allowed an opinion on it.

I've personally never asked to listen in on Prince's creative process. I'm happy just buying and listening to the end product. In this case the end product doesn't do a great deal for me. But that's okay.

Can you read? I didn't say it was a bootleg.

If one ignores basic conventions of paragraphing, you're right, you didn't mislabel this song (it is a song) a bootleg.

OK, listened to it again a couple of times and listened closely to the lyrics and I have to say that (apart from the raw recording issues) I really, really like this one. It touched me somehow!

This is FANTASTIC.

Forget about anything on The Truth. This is better.

And I love that you can hear him switch off the mic at the end.

I can't wait to hear what's next!!!

I like the song. Definitely does sound like being in the studio with Prince. Even with those 2 little pop spots in the song where it's like he blew into the microphone or something. So far I believe every song on 3rdEyeGirl has been a hit!

GO TO 3rdEyeGirl!

http://3rdeyegirl.com/

UPDATE: It's a pretty LEGIT acoustic song, as mentioned..it sounds like something dreamy to me. AND as already known; Prince brings a closeness to the track. As if you are sitting right next to him as he performs this. Almost like he just recorded it, and sent it to us. It's something that keeps you asking for more. Nothing all in the open, layered with instruments and sounds...This is just something extremely delightful and calm. I love Prince on acoustic guitar, always something lush! This brings that flow! Just for the CHARGE of 88.cents! smile

EDIT..SPELLING Corrections..

[Edited 2/17/13 23:05pm]

Prince is in rare form...I am just loving these new songs....listen, if he keeps throwing them up, I will keep paying .88 cents. nod

cool I really like this song. It feels so up close and personal, like Prince is right here. The delivery sounds so smooth and heart felt, I'm loving that the variety of genres that Prince covers, and keeps expanding.

I'n using a borrowed pc while mine is in the shop. Even tho I've only listened to most of the downloads once, on my 3rdeyegirl account it says there are 0 downloads remaining. I hope these songs will stay up for awhile, at the price they're going for, I really don't mind paying twice. Having new Prince music is sooooooo nice!! biggrin

I think the main reason for tossing out the WAV files is mainly to get a feel for what these songs are about, these for all we know are songs not on an upcoming album, i think thats mainly why we are going to get perfect quality stuff right now till there is an album ready to go, which is still unknown if they'll be one, he could just be putting out jams for all we know.

I'm absolutely loving this. Playing it on a loop for what I'm guessing is the 6th time.

It's just a little bit similar in melody to The Dance in some bits.

I'm reminded of the bit in The Dance where he sings

"If I'm feel this way again, If I can't be your lover I don't wanna be your friend"

I wonder which came first since we don't have a recording date for this.

Either way I love it and it was well worth 55p

It does sound unfinished. It's not a great song, but I like that he put out an acoustic song, and his voice sounds great.

Exactly. This song sounds like he just woke up after a night of making love and grabbed his guitar and just started singing. Very raw and emotional, like a musician just starting out. Not worried about tempo or tone. Just a guy and a guitar.

Absolutely love it.

I agree. We're all entitled to an opinion, good OR bad. Once, twice or three times a lady. I've paid for plenty of redundant album tracks too.

Rod, don't give em ideas for more rules ffs.

Still can't get into this though. Song sounds weak to me. I love the idea of putting stuff like this out, unfinished and a bit raw. If this was part of an hour he'd spent somewhere I'd be up for hearing the rest.

Since when do you have to pay for your own gift? No, it's not a gift. Just another song. If it REALLY was an outline or sketch, as you call it, wouldn't it be called a "demo" (which he hasn't been afraid to tag onto the end of a song title before)?

It sounds like it's just a weak, half-baked track. Plain and simple.

prince is feckin nuts... he puts out random tracks in various sound quality...labels the "boyfriend" track as a demo when it sounds finished and then puts out a true one take demo with mic noise and doesnt call it a demo ???. lol

"that girl thang" may well be the roughest track prince has ever officially released ?..i cant think off the top of my head anything else that sounds like he has recorded it straight onto a tape recorder or something like that..

not that i am complaining ..i would love prince to stop putting some of the high gloss polish that i think he puts on too many recent tracks but this doesnt sound like a completed song...just a work in progress...as pretty as it is...

i dont think the recent tracks are anything great..."screwdriver" is a solid track and the rest are ok but i dont think they are as good as the 20ten tracks...maybe thats just me but i am still waiting to get blown away by something and it aint happened yet...

but i do love any new music so lets hope the best is yet to come.. biggrin
