On the program it says 10:15 Special Encore TBA

Maybe they saved this spot for him to show up and participate?

Omg! What a show! fdeluxe did a good job. Nice to see Wendy and Suzanne together. Bilal killed it! with singing Sister. He received a standing ovation. Best performance in the show! Chris Rock showed up but can't remember what song he talked through. lol. People took plenty of pictures. Sorry folks no sign of Prince but was a good and fun show anyway. I am sure other orgers who were there will post about it later.

Mutiny killed it and the end with It's Gonna be a Beautiful Night and 1999 was amazing.

Sister and Annie Christian were also great, especially because we know we will never hear Prince sing them.

Darling Nikki was good too, but something about a pregnant lady about to give birth singing Darling Nikki just turned me off a bit! Hearing the music for it was awesome though.

Mountains didn't impress me very much.

The Beautiful Ones was good, but that is one song that only Prince can do justice to in my book, the screams, etc.

If he was in the building, then he was out of view. Regardless, tbe show was entertaining. Again, Bilal stole the show singing his version of 'Sister''.

Little under 2 and 1/2 hours. Everyone did one song except fDeluxe & D'Angelo(they both did two).

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

"NEW YORK (AP) — They partied like it was 1999 — the audience and the musicians — at a Prince tribute concert at Carnegie Hall.

More than 20 performers including Elvis Costello, The Roots and the Waterboys paid tribute to the pop icon in a two-hour-plus concert Thursday night. They all joined together onstage to close the show with "1999."

Singer D'Angelo took the lead while putting his arm around Bettye LaVette, Chris Rock and Costello clapped hands side-by-side, and comedians-actresses-singers Maya Rudolph and Sandra Bernhard danced in a silly manner — all while the crowd cheered on.

Many of the performers got into character as they sang signature Prince tunes. Soul singer Bilal was wild on "Sister," singing in various tones like a mad man and thrilling the crowd. Bernhard, in her leather pants, shimmery shirt and shiny shoes, impressed on "Little Red Corvette" as she skipped around onstage and belted high notes. And singer-songwriter Kat Edmonson captured the audience with "The Beautiful Ones," standing still and singing with only a pianist onstage.

It was one of the only times The Roots weren't backing up other performers throughout the concert, which raised $100,000 for music education programs.

Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson jammed on the drums and even took photos of a pregnant Rudolph when she danced with one hand on her belly and the other stroking her hair. Rudolph, who sings Prince covers under the moniker PRINCEss with Gretchen Lieberum, screeched on "Darling Nikki" and didn't slow down while performing choreography in heels.

Few words were said to the audience, though Rock thanked the crowd "for coming" toward the end of the show. He impersonated Prince, too, when reciting the lyrics to "If I Was Your Girlfriend" with sass. Comedian-actor Fred Armisen took on many roles: He recited lyrics from "Let's Go Crazy," played the drums while the Blind Boys of Alabama sang "The Cross" and offered light vocals during "It's Going to Be a Beautiful Night" alongside D'Angelo.

Most of the musicians wore black onstage, though LaVette rocked a purple blazer while singing "Kiss." Other performers included Eric Leeds, Nina Perrson and Talib Kweli. Husband-and-wife Citizen Cope and Alice Smith sang a duet version of "Pop Life" and Booker T. Jones was joined by singer Diane Birch and members of the Young Audiences New York Youth Choir for "Raspberry Beret."

Depending who you ask, his not being there was either because he's an amazingly considerate, selfless guy who didn't want his presence to take attention away from the performances (and also he's so incredibly shy and humble, and he couldn't handle a tribute in his honor) OR it's because he's a huge jerk who didn't want to see certain people from his past or acknowledge certain aspects of his past, and/or was annoyed that other people were performing his music (including being offended by some of the song selections).

So...Prince is either a saint who was only thinking of others by not being there, or he didn't go because he's an a*hole who was only thinking of himself. smile

Of course, it might come out later that he was there and was keeping a low profile

Whatever his reasons were, it was HIS loss. This was a chance for him to see how his legacy has affected so many other artists. As someone who constantly preaches about "real music by real musicians" this was where they were--all inspired by him. To bad the teacher did not want to face some of his best students.

How do we know that Prince wasn't at Carnegie Hall. Maybe he did see the concert but out of the view of the general public?
