Very well said. This isn't an official Prince site, where censorship & ignorance of reality is the norm. While the sycophants & zealots do find their way here, they have to deal with facts from time to time, many of which don't cast Prince in the most flattering light.

Wow, somebody ACTUALLY agreed with ManlyMoose.

If it really were "well said", it would be better if people got their so called "point" across without being asses to people.

Just saying.

[Edited 9/4/11 6:56am]

Prince has a problem of not paying people, of ignoring debt until he's sued. It's a fact, and each new instance is "news".

To defend him on this is ridiculous. To get mad at those who discuss it is ridiculous.

Just saying... wink

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

It worries me that Prince has gone through so many lawyers, and seems to have problems paying them on time. He is going to have trouble finding any reputable firm to represent him.

Given that he changes his mind a lot, Prince should realize that he needs a good lawyer and he needs to treat that person well. He risks losing a lot of money because he can't hold on to his legal people.

For someone smart, who seems to have read up on contract stuff, Prince is acting pretty foolishly.

I think that newer members don't realize and older members forget that the site owner has said on several occasions that the org is NOT dedicated to Prince and wasn't created in his honor.

The org is about the diversity of the fan community and always has been.

Though I didn't know he'd said it outright, I did start to type something along those lines earlier and realised I was meandering too far from my point, but yes, I've assumed that "online fan community" is deliberately distinct from 'fansite' and some of us should probably be more mindful of that.

If it's about the diversity of the fan community though, I'd still argue that a balance is missing.

However, something else that has dawned on me since posting this morning is of course the relationship and history between the org and Prince and how that's bound to continuously infiltrate the site through the owner, the mods and many of the long-time posters and I do tend to forget how massive an impact that has had on the whole situation.

There is no balance, because Prince wants to control it all, or demolish it all. Since that triggers a negative reaction, he (probably) pretty much hates the org.

Tho' he secretely loves it too, because of all the attention and because it gives him free publicity and he doesn't have to hire anybody to have an online presence.

So he tolarates it. For now at least.

ON TOPIC:

Prince should definitly pay. He obviously seriously neglected his contractual duties in this matter. Better yet: as far as I can tell now he didn't even bring in as a defense that he did do all promised to do.

So obbviously he would be liable. 4 million seems a little steep tho'. And one should remember that there isn't yet a final decision on this amount. That 4 million is just the amount the perfume company demanded for failing to perform his contratcual duties. Another arbiter would have to assess whether that is really the amount of damages they suffered.

It's a topic in the regular news sites in Holland. So, i don't see how it should not be a topic on a site about Prince?

Nothing to do with hating at all. Just about bringing news about Prince to fans of his music.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Right. And for those who think particular items of news should be on the front page, they could always orgnote the mods and ask to have them put up.

Of course this makes the front page of a fan site. Barely anything positive about Prince gets a headline on a website dedicated to him. It's so stupid. It's the reason why I'm losing respect for this site and the people that run it. This site hardly has changed in years, the layouts stays the same, but when Prince has another lawsuit on him. A NEW FUCKING HEADLINE! It's bullshit.

Personally, I don't care about the whole thing. It's not my life, it's his problem and it's out of my hands. Of course people are going to go out of their way to call Prince an "idiot" and tell him "what he needs to do". I'm not his buisness partner, I'm a fan and all I can do is support him by wishing him the best. I hope everything works out with Prince.

Oh look, someone's got a brain. SPOT ON.

the Org is definately not a Prince fansite, I view it more as a discussion board about him, among other topics. that's why its become a santuary for those who are straight up Prince haters and I don't mean those who simply pose any honest criticism.

Prince does need to pay! I mean he has the money! lol I know he made a killing from all the tours he has been within this past year. I don't know if the lawsuit is worthy of a fight??? BUT I know that if Prince is accountable (Which documents show he is in some degree) HE NEEDS TO PAY! Just give the 4 millions dollars or whatever is due; because that is what responsibility is all about. He would be the first to sue if someone did not pay him. Haha..Same goes for someone else; who he has not yielded their proper share.

I love Prince, and I am not a hater, but I am also one to believe in R E S P O N S I B L I T Y ! Haha, as I said; this should be no problem--He HAS Money! TRUST ME ON THAT ONE! Just look at him his band, and his stage. (Even if he is not as rich as he was at one time, I know he is not suffering in his finances...I know he ain't broke! 4 Million might be like 4,000 to him, or less. It should be no problem to just say..."HERE; sorry for the mix up".

Like he would say 'sorry' though. lol

[Edited 9/3/11 22:12pm]

Prince is terrible with money. He spends and overspends on himself. He won't pay bills until the creditor is coerced into taking a bad settlement or sues for the money.

His Band? Prince is legendary for not paying them, and making them sometimes wait months to get a paycheck. The Revolution and the SOTT bands were full of talent. Hs bands from 1997 on started to show major weakness. Do you think Andy Aloe is making millions from being in his band? Did you ever see the old used cars Paisley Park employees drove away in? Some of those people drove away in $2000 cars, and I won't use names to make fun of them.

John Blackwell and Renato Neto are the closest thing to World Class musicians in his current band. You can bet that few in his band ever get calls for high paying jobs.

If Prince were even half normal, this stuff just wouldn't happen. Go to fan sites for U2, John Mellencamp, Sting, Stevie Wonder, or (insert famous singer name here.) You won't find the negative news for one big reason: There isn't any. Their fans generally love them. They don't feel screwed over time and time again. Those people pay their bills. Prince doesn't.

And when somebody like me points out the facts, I'm just being negative. On the Jam of The Year Tour, he didn't even pay for that luxury bus with the horses painted on them.

Remasters? I don't even believe we will get them now. As each year passes, the value of his old catalog and unreleased music goes lower and lower. His fanbase is getting older, and won't spend the kind of money he probably thinks they are worth. Cd sales are declining every single year, and Prince remasters generally are things us old cd buyers want. Remasters with bonus tracks would've been a great promo idea on the Musicology tour, but 7 years later, nothing.

I remember somebody writing that a Dirty Mind remaster alone would make Prince millions. It didn't really sell that well to begin with, so the remasters are not the cash cow we hope they would be.

Anybody that thinks Prince can do no wrong...just look at The Time and The Family. Not even allowed to use their names. "Original Time Band," and "FDeluxe" anybody? Not like they were gonna make billions off of new product, but claiming owners rights to the names is just pure insanity from Prince. These people were your friends and cared about you. They also played a role in the life that you have now. Good way to show your thanks.

And the posters saying the "Org" is negative? Where is all the positive news? There ain't much of it, my friend. I deeply love Prince, but call it like I see it. If he were a family member, I'd be proud and ashamed at the same time. He only surrounds himself with Yes-Men, so forget any hope from his "Organization." His last real management was in the early 90's and by 1986, his management was bowing to his every demand to keep their job.

Gee thanks! I didn't know that Prince.org isn't considered a fansite. That explains why I have felt a little unease with the many derogatory remarks..especially the demeaning name calling. I wonder if Prince himself knows this. I'm sure he does after all this time. In my opinion, I would enjoy a "fansite" more...where there is tactful and constructive criticism rather than outright rudeness and disrespect for Prince....well..maybe one day to come.

Oh, I think he does. You may not know the history here, but a few years ago Prince had his lawyers send cease and desist letters to get images of him taken down. The problems between Prince and his fans go back for decades. It does seem to me that the atmosphere has become more negative here lately, but not because of the so-called "haters." Rather, it's because certain people are attacking the site and the mods for bias just because they posted this story on the front page. (BTW, moquake.com added this lawsuit to its front page as well).

If you would enjoy a "fansite" more, as you define it, why not start one and go hang out there? It puzzles me why certain individuals show up here and immediately tell everybody to shut up and play by a new set of rules. You're not going to persuade people who have been jerked around by Prince in various ways for decades that they should show him lots of respect.

If my memory serves me right; this is the last major hirdle from Prince's past for him to cross and get out of the way. True??? Well, now that all the old business will be laid to rest, he can truly be free. Hey, do we think there might be more US dates to the concert tour? I'll buy a couple of tickets to help with the debt if he comes to Michigan.

It is ridiculous.

You're mad because we're talking about Prince's habitual problem of not paying his bills and being sued to force him to meet his obligation.

As if the problem here is the discussion. Prince is the one that continually puts himself in this situation. If he didn't keep doing it. Repeatedly. Repeatedly. Repeatedly.... the problem lies with him.

It's not okay to default on business obligations. It is okay to discuss the subject.

IMO, having the opposing point of view on this subject, the one you have shared, is ridiculous. I'm sorry that my sharing that opinion hurts your feelings. Good luck with that. wink

Good luck with that. wink

Who said I was mad? Maybe you didn't read my post you REPLIED to and me mentioning your screenname just caught your eye. I just said that I'm used to the stuff being said here, so something that somebody writes on DA INTERNETZ!!!111 isn't going to make me mad and ruin my day. I don't care. Call it ridiculous. In my opinion, I don't think it is. If you think people calling Prince a bastard (somebody has) is normal, then I think defending Prince on it is normal.

Thanks for the information. Seems to me like you joined just to tell us what a bunch of jokers we are. You acknowledge that people have been criticizing Prince here for a long time, so why join now if that gets on your nerves?

I joined to share my views on Prince's music and any other topic I feel like discussing. I'm not going to sign up to a site just to stoop to people's levels. So what if a few people bug me. I take risks to express myself.

Ok? Alright.

I am a long time Prince fan and I love him, but let's be real here.......the poster that spoke his mind about Prince, and was called a hater for it, is speaking nothing but the truth! Prince is becoming notorious for getting sued and being taken to court for not paying this bill or that one. It seems that every time that he is in the news now, it's about someone suing him for not paying this bill or that bill. It seems like the only way that Prince pays his bills is when someone drags him to court and sues him. It's been like that with him for a while now. It surprises me that anyone even bothers to do business with him, because he never seems to meet his obligations, and always pull some kind of stunt that winds up with someone suing him, because he changed his mind about this or that, and refuse to see through whatever it is he agreed to do. How many times has the man created a fan website and then abruptly shut it down, with no explanations whatsoever to the fans that love him, and paid their money to join the site? The same way that Prince has screwed over his fans, he's screwed over lots of others too! Face it, the man doesn't seem to be a reliable, trusthworthy businessman. He has screwed over a lot of people, including band members and others close to him. The fans have grown tired of being screwed over by Prince, and others have too! Prince may be a good artist, but he doesn't seem to be that good of a business man, as well as a person sometimes...........and that's the truth, like it or not!!!!

Ok? Alright.

Your initial post wasn't defending Prince, it was attacking "this site and the people that run it." You could defend Prince by arguing that the allegations of the perfume company are exaggerated and the amount of damages awarded is too high. I don't know what the point would be, because Prince will not notice or care that you are defending him. But attacking your fellow orgers and the people who run this site is not the same as defending Prince.

I'm not challenging your right to express yourself. You're the one that's doing that by complaining about what the mods choose to put up on the front page. If you think there's another story that deserves to be up there, by all means tell us about it.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.
