This just occurred to me...

Did Prince ever get his masters and stuff back?

It might have something to do with that or something similar. He might want to do all this type of stuff for all we know, but maybe he just doesn't want WB to profit off of him again if he can help it.

No.

Apparently he has another two years before getting masters from, I believe, his first three albums on his Time Warner contract (For You, Prince and Dirty Mind). Who knows if he'll get masters back from anything between 1981 and 1996.

It's not getting the masters back that worries me, it's what horrors he might inflict on them if/when he does.

Yeah, that would be preferable to possible hatchet job JW injuries.

Why would he re-live the past, if his motto is , "I don't like to live in the past".

Before he goes on stage and performed a set made up of 70's and 80's material?????

That's different than releasing 45 albums of old material.

I love stuff like this! Bonus tracks, restored artwork, liner notes, rare photos, unique packaging...it's a dream come true for the real fans.Prince doesn't realize how exciting these projects are for a diehard fan.It gives you a chance to *celebrate* an album and an era.Unfortunately for us,we may never get the chance to celebrate the Prince albums that mean so much to us confused

It's OK,though.I have stopped waiting for Prince to come to his senses.I'll just collect and enjoy the upgraded catalogs of my other favorite artists.

I couldn't really care what he thinks about us if I'm honest, all I care about is that he keeps writing and recording music that he believes in. If I like it then great, if not, tough.

Regarding live performances, I just saw him in Dublin and he put on such a great show that I find it hard to believe that he doesn't care about his fans.

^ would Prince ever treat his fans with such amazing re-releases of:

"1999"

"Purple Rain"

"Around The World In A Day"

"Parade"

"Sign 'O' The Times"

"Lovesexy"

question

I guess the answer is: no, NEVER!............... cry

This is exactly what bothers me at being a Prince fan..since ´84, well maybe not since ´84;

in the beginning we got great b-sides,12" and live videos...in fact, when he was with WB things weren´t that bad, we even got Livesexy videos!!

And we all know there´s excellent footage out there from other tours (DMSR from Musicology is one of his best ever!!)

And YES, I´m jealous when George Michael or U2 fans get this kind of great REMASTERED stuff....

is it really so hard? And he would earn some money doing it.

Beats me. People are actually living in their own castle if they think Prince EVER cared. This man has had a protective shield since the 1970s. He don't trust anyone good enough to break that shield. It's always been like that. That's why it don't surprise me the way his actions are NOW. lol

I'm not buying that he never cared. Why was Crystal Ball released then? No casual fan was going to buy that. Prince has released a lot of suspect stuff expecting diehards to buy it [internet music clubs, Karmasutra, 1-800-NEW-FUNK, etc], & when diehards became disappointed & stopped caring as much in what he was releasing, he said "Fuck'em".

He cares to a degree, I'm sure. He knows when he plays 'Calhoun Square' or 'What's My Name?' at a pre/aftershow or jazz festival that the cats going crazy at the front & singing along are his fans - if they got a totally muted reaction then he wouldn't play them.

Exactly, NO. Mind you this will not stop people from asking over and over and over again 'why hasn't Prince released any remasters?' Uh... because he can't yet! So please find something else to moan about endlessly.

People are never gonna be pleased unless Prince decides to do a personal concert at each and every one of their houses.

That why they call them "fans" because it's short for fanatic.

If I was Prince, I wouldn't care either.

He doesn't owe the fans anything other than being conscious during his shows.

Especially for a fanbase that's as whiny and neurotic as his fanbase is.

Ouch!! And I agree

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Nothing was stopping him from teaming up with WB to release remasters back in the '90s when people still cared about such things. By the time he gets around to releasing expanded versions of his catalog the audience for it will be substantially smaller than it once was.

That box set is insane, and not in a good way. Amazon currently has it listed at $658.66. Over six hundred bucks? Really? And you want Prince to do the same thing for six of his albums? That would be over $3600.00!

The box set is indeed insane, but in a very good way. It's a die-hard fan's collector item and certainly blows the silly ass Prince Opus (2,000 dollar) out of the water.

Besides, this isn't the only configuration of the box-set.

U2 has box-set combinations of this release in various price points from a bit over $100 to a deluxe edition 2-CD set for around $35.

You pay for the configuration you want.

You get remasters, additional material/footage, and choice.

I believe he cares for his diehards in his own little way, just that those same diehards (some not all)usually portray that they DONT care for who he is nowadays! What with the constant complaining about releases, demands about what type of shows he should have, how his style is over, what he should sing about, who he should play with in his band and so on and so on ... shrug twocents

Prince has to understand he is the center, everything and one has to compliment him, then he can market himself better and then we can get new music.
