Did Prince ever care about his own fans???

Look how the U2 fans are treated these months,

the re-release of "Achtung Baby" 20 years after the original release:

[img:$uid]http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/9305/achtungbaby.jpg[/img:$uid]

^ would Prince ever treat his fans with such amazing re-releases of:

"1999"

"Purple Rain"

"Around The World In A Day"

"Parade"

"Sign 'O' The Times"

"Lovesexy"

question

I guess the answer is: no, NEVER!............... cry

That box set is insane, and not in a good way. Amazon currently has it listed at $658.66. Over six hundred bucks? Really? And you want Prince to do the same thing for six of his albums? That would be over $3600.00!

Eh, I'm definitely not a fan of these deluxe box sets. It seems to me that they are just a cynical attempt to squeeze more money from the diehard fans to try to compensate for the decline in overall sales. I do appreciate the multiple options because some of us are just fans of the music and do not necessarily want all of the extras but I thought that the deluxe versions of The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree were better. They were not cheap but they weren't crazy expensive either. Just the fact that they are offering an over $600.00 version turns my stomach a bit. Didn't they just complete the most financially successful tour in history? How much money do they need? lol

Yeah, interesting that it says remastered on the Amazon listings for all 5 versions, but remastering isn't mentioned anywhere on the U2 website - it's 5 different versions of an Anniversary Edition, none of the versions are remasters.

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

1. If I only have limited chi chang in my wallet and I want to buy a new release, Prince is going to be first.

2. I never want Prince to revisit old music. I don't want to hear someone cover themselves.

3. 2010 was a huge disappointment to me, because he tried to imitate a style long gone, but more so because he did it with very little heart.

4. If Prince is bearing his soul in his music now, then his soul has become shallow.

5. The man needs a challenge.

In all, he doesn't need to care about the Diehard fan, like myself. He needs to destroy the groove he is stuck in and go back to the old school. Not the old music. Kind of like Rocky did in Rocky 3.

JMO. Which ain't much.

I generally agree with you but the two things are not mutually exclusive. Prince could release "old" music while continuing to work on new music. Recently Neil Young has been releasing vault material and new albums. Pearl Jam are celebrating their 20th anniversary with reissues while also recording a new album. In addition to the Achtung Baby reissues U2 are also recording new music. There must be someone close to Prince who he would trust to prepare some vault releases that would not require too much effort on Prince's part. I'm sure that he would need to give his final approval but most of the work could be done by someone else.

Why is that all the diehard fans keep expecting Prince to change to suit their tastes?

Why haven't the diehards changed to grow/mature along with Prince?

Too many Prince fans are stuck on the past and refuse to let go until they gasp the final breath of life.

All the redundant conversations are about REMASTERS, THE REVOLUTION and THE VAULT. Sounds like the past to me!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Amazon is not the most accurate website in the world. As previously mentioned, the official website does not mention the word remastered at all. If the album was remastered (and it doesn't need to be), it would probably be a victim of the loudness war.

C´mon Peeps, if Prince really hated his diehard fanbase, do you really think we would have 100´s of unreleased songs in hard and soft versions...and do we pay for any of it????

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

I personally think Crystal Ball is brilliant, but i have this strange feeling that people thought Prince would deliver it in person, with Larry holding the sack...

I bought my copy in Klagenfurt, Austria...just for random useless info lol

The general question as to Crystal Ball was 'Hey Prince can you release some bootlegs for us?' then when it showed up the general response was 'Why'd he pick those bootlegs?'

Some people will never be satisfied with anything so it's sometimes better to give them nothing at all.

Prince could easily give us BOTH:

those re-releases from the past as well as present music - and for the future.....

why should he be holding back... confused

[Edited 8/11/11 19:36pm]

Why would he re-live the past, if his motto is , "I don't like to live in the past".

then he should remember that when he's playing his 80s hits non-stop and rehashing the 80s sound for his lazy albums.

There are 2 kind of fan,

The ones who always complain, demand for more and never get satisfied.

The other half, the ones that actually complain (or point out) about the first category of fan.

Crystal ball was da bomb!

It would be great if there is a volume 2.

Like any other high quality Prince output, no ?

To go back on the main subject, I think if Prince find a way to release music and make satisfying money of it (like he is doing with touring), he will definitely release more material (new or old).

But, with piracy downloading, mp3, etc. I think he cannot bare imagining ppl downloading his music, or in other words, not being paid for the job.

just my thought...

I have matured past his the old Prince taste, that is my whole point. But the man is not giving anything special now in his MUSIC. It is almost all cliche. He needs to challenge himself to not JUST CREATE, but create to his potential as he used to. If this is his musical potential that he is pushing now, then all we can say is that maybe he is not the artist and genius that he spouts about.
