I'm kidding of course.

But controversy is the selling point in the thread so I'll just say this in regards to Prince:

Prince was wrong for not including the LONG version of "Computer Blue" on "Purple Rain".

[Edited 4/10/11 14:56pm]

What do you think he should have cut? Purple Rain was about as long as a single album got in 1984 so you would have to drop a song to include the full version of "Computer Blue."

Then he would've made a double album then. wink

What Prince predicted in "The War" is actually coming true.

We are not at the point of having microchips in our necks yet, but we are increasingly (and willingly) signing ourselves up to be tracked 24-7.

Think about it:

- Cellphones can pinpoint your exact location

- Vehicle features like OnStar can pinpoint your exact location and can track where you've driven

- Credit/debit cards track your purchase history

- Store membership "reward points" cards (Best Buy, Kroger, etc.) go one step further to track purchases that are made in cash

- Cashiers finally ask for phone numbers to even further track purchases where no store cards or reward cards are used

- Facebook and Twitter have a function where you "check in" to restaurants, theaters, etc. so people can see where you are (in return, you rack up virtual reward points)

So somewhere there is data on where you've been, what you've bought, what you've said and who you've associated with. Each of these seem pretty harmless -- on their own -- but when combined it seems like Big Brother. And it's all VOLUNTARY.

The day that microchips are made available in exchange for admission into the underground metropolis, the idea is going to be much more widely accepted than you'd like to think.

Which would you choose? Stay free and disconnected while battling it out for survival above ground, or get microchipped (harmless and not too different from the above items) and get to live a "comfortable" life underground?

eek

coming true? it had already come true at the time of the song release. there are thousands of underground bases and people are already volunteering to have a microchip put in .. the elite who own and use the government to manipulate us are no less than 44 years ahead in all aspects of societal and technological progress. the micro chip was introduced for keeping track of pets but now with the whole fear mongering terrorist campain and false flag attacks on our own country (history does repeat itself) people are indeed volunteering to implant chips that will serve to verify that you are a non terrorist citizen .. what is being greatly overlooked is the fact that the "comfortable" carrot dangling is nothing less than a concentration camp for workers needed to fullfill the elite agenda .. it is our constitutional right as FREE citizens of our DEMOCRACY and COUNTRY to go ANYWHERE in the United States of America without being detained in any way unless there is probably cause. as they say .. what if people wake up? what if people realize that the enemy is not country A or B but actually the war and banking profiteers .. numerous presidents have warned of these dangers .. they are all dead. other leaders too .. often assasinated. even michael jackson was speaking out right before he was assasinated .. 2pac shakur .. martin luther king .. the whole kennedy family .. people just are not paying attention and you believe your televisions and newspapers way way way too much .. your mind is colonized .. you are not allowed to think for yourself anymore .. no pills no booze no smokes no tv no cell phones no poison in our food no poison in our water no poison in our air no bombs no war no oppression and please hell fuckin no microchip in my fuckin neck .. people are gods .. not sheep .. and gods do not put up with this sort of crap

I'm pretty sure that implantable microchips were a technology being written about in the very early 90s. I think just Prince reads newspapers/tech articles.

Yeah, they've been a reality for quite some time. Hell, my dog has a microchip in her neck (literally).

The subject matter of being under government surveillance/control is what I was mostly referring to.

Huh? That has been a recurring theme in pop culture for.... Decades. Especially since the Cold War.

Hell, have you even read "1984"!???

Face Down is the closest thing to a good track, but was let down by its production IMO.

Jam of the Year. In This Bed I Scream. Get Yo Groove On. Somebody's Someone.

Sorry. Didn't like any, I think it is the production on Emancipation that puts me off...

Adorecream

I just don't think the Gold Experience is that great, it has okay tracks, but a lot of self indulgent sounding ballads (Dolphin, Gold), under par rapping/swearing/shouting - 319, Now, Pussy Control and the only great song is TMBGITW.

Come is a superb album, the titke track, Space, Pheromone, papa, race and dark are all superb tracks and letitgo is a superb pop song as good as Raspberry Beret. It totally eclipses TGE.

Chaos and Disorder, NPS, The Rainbow Children are all shite.

A lot but not all of his post 1992 music has been very self indulgent

Despite his religious leanings, I still suspect Prince is at heart a gay man.

ATWIAD is way overrated, only 4 decent and great songs (Paisley Park, Condition of the Heart, Raspberry Beret and Pop Life are great) the rest is self indulgent filler.

Graffiti Bridge is nearly all filler

Diamonds and Pearls has dated badly especially Tony M's rapping

Emancipation overall is still one of his better albums, it has some standout tracks.

3121 is a classic Prince album, it will always define the mature part of Prince's career. It has a grown up but super funky and catchy sound.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Maybe we should rename this thread "Lets bash Sign o the Times/Adore" it nearly breaks my heart to read this, but I starting to think that referring to Adore as the greatest Prince song of all time and the Sign o the Times album (Although the single is nothing to be sneezed at either) is his greatest album of all time is becoming a controversial opinion. Lets bash things more worthy of bashing such as some of his 90s filler like NPS and Chaos and Disorder. Okay Adore dosen't work for everyone but is it really that BAD?

Also lets leave Do Me Baby alone, u cant compare it to later and more mature sounding jams, Prince didn't even look past the physical side of a relationship until Purple Rain so comparing the raw humpa humpa energy of Do Me Baby to a love song of Emancipation is ridiculous.

But the thing is that all Prince fans have different opinions. You call Chaos and Disorder "filler" but to me it is one of my favourite albums. Neither one of us is wrong, we just have a different opinion. It doesn't diminish your enjoyment of "Adore," Sign O' The Times or "Do Me Baby" if other people dislike them just like it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of Chaos and Disorder if you don't like it.

^^I honestly believe that P has dipped his toe in Lake Homo a time or two myself. As for Adore, I happen to be one of the ones who think it's overrated, and he has much better songs dealing with the same subject. The Ladder from ATWIAD is hardly filler (to me). It's a wonderfully inspirational gospel track. I agree that 3121 is a wonderful album.

Lake Homo? Wow..LOL

The Ladder a gospel track? That's a stretch but I get what you're saying. Adore has always been one of those "underground" hits". It got (and still does from time to time) major airplay on the R&B stations. I think it's a classic love ballad although I would put Do Me, Baby, The Beautiful Ones and Call My Name before that one.

I don't know what to think of wendy and lisa, I never remember being wowed by their actual musicianship, as far as what they contributed behind the scenes is unkown to me. Prince wrote plenty of great music before his heavy collabs with them and did lots after. It seems Prince felt that they brought something to the table when you listen to "Old Friends 4 Sale" but I thought that they were most important as an image thing, you know, the two white girls working with the black idiot savant angle.

Eh, if you want to hear what Lisa & Wendy brought to Prince listen to "Power Fantastic" and "Sometimes it Snows in April."

Well if that's the greatest example of what they brought, then I'm glad he fired them!

Ok here goes....

1. Parade is such utter crap to me, other than Kiss, which is a gem of a song and shouldn't have been put on such a cd with such crap.

2. 1999 isn't that good as a whole, sure its got bright spots like LRC, DMSR, 1999, but I'd rather listen to any of his music 2004-present.

3. Uptown isn't a cool song at all, I actually hate it. Much like other songs that seem to get people to screaming: SAIMH, Mountains, 17 Days...UGHHHHH. I'd rather hear him play great songs like Endorphinmachine, Blue Light, The Ladder, and Baby Knows.

4. Graffiti Bridge is just as good a movie as Purple Rain! Great music on both, Prince looking fine(he was hotter in GB), and Morris being funny. The only difference is PR has a better plot and Appolonia instead of horrible acting Ingrid Chavez.

5. The Revolution is overrated, in fact, they were his worst band and most boring, the NPG is at least exciting....NPG rules! I'll take LG over W&L anyday!

6. Mani was the prettiest woman Prince has ever been with, the others were all blah. That's not counting Sheila E and Appolonia though.

7. 3121, 2010, Musicology, and Planet Earth are better albums as a whole than 1999, Lovesexy, ATWIAD, Parade...though the latter albums have brighter spots with AnnaStesia, LRC, Kiss, which are in the top 20 best songs of all time. Rave is better than TRC, Graffiti Bridge is better than Parade, MPLS is better than Lotus

8. Prince is a really good actor, and I like his rapping. It makes him interesting.

9. The Black Album sucks..it only has 1 good song-W2RIL! Glad he put out Lovesexy instead!

10. Musicology-2010 is his BEST lot of 5 consecutive albums. SOTT-D&P is almost as good, take out Batman and add prince and its better.
