Honestly, I don't understand this thread. I can understand people aren't fans of the covers he does, but the hits have made Prince big and are the reason he can still sell out stadiums and with that, the reason he still gives that many concerts. I really cannot understand why people are picking on every hit he has made, and I've seen almost all of them in this thread confused

You don't have to love every single hit and you can get bored of them. Madonna's first hit is "Holiday" and she performed it on almost all of her tours. I want her to retire it and never perform it again because it bores me. I can understand why some feel the same way about LGC or PR.

Fair point, but on bootlegs you can skip the songs and during a concert the audience usually goes crazy during the hits, so you can party anyway.

But I guess it was just that 1000th pessimistic thread on the org that bothered me... I sometimes feel some people in here should be grateful Prince still does concerts. With this fanbase, I would have stopped long time ago! lol

Never mind, just pretend I didn't say anything wink

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

yeahthat I hate this song soo much. I hated it after the first listen. Love the video so I just hit the 'mute' button when I watch it. If I had the power, I would erase that song from history. Yes, I hate it that much.

eek its one of his biggest hits. Without it, atwiad wouldnt be as good as album as it is

it's cute however not as funky as america, pop life, tambourine

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The only song that saved that album was 'Pop Life'...and even it failed because ATWIAD is just awful. disbelief One day, when I have some money and time to waste, I'm going to buy the sheet music to 'Raspberry Beret' and some lighter fluid. I'm going to take it out into my backyard, douse it heavily with the lighter fluid, strike a match, set it on fire, and watch it burn slowly until nothing remains and then bury the ashes as deep as possible...yes, it's like that. I'd tell Prince to his face how much I hate the song. In fact, I hope he's reading this right now because I know he lurks on here. hmph!

lol damn girl ..don't burn my sheet music lol

again if ur fed the same thing over and over wouldn't u get sick of hearing it all the time. as much music as in the vaults and other songs from his albums that are loved by fans, then he can drop a lot of those hits and play other songs

yes on a bootleg u can do that but not while attending the concert. so what's the point of going 2 a concert if u want 2 hit skip all the time?

If you've seen Prince often enough to have lost the excitement of hearing some of the songs, you're extremely lucky.

Never thought of it that way, but tend to agree with you. I suppose it's our own fault for attending as many shows as possible and seeking out the boot recordings. Some fault does go to Prince though, for not promoting the new albums when he tours, dating back to the tours for Emancipation.

^^ really..

I see a quote by MJ is under your post, estelle...

and I understand why a MJ fan would hate on ATWIAD cuz it's not an easy accessive album - like for instance a MJ record, razz

are you joking, or seriously hating the ATWIAD album...

Tastes sure are different, I love the psycadelica of ATWIAD so much, a truly great album.

Imo..... a serious Prince fan can't/ wouldn't hate ATWIAD, wow it's such an excellent album......

[Edited 11/12/10 23:59pm]

lol I liked the MJ quote so I put it as my siggy about 7 months ago after reading his biography by Randy J. Taraborrelli. I didn't say I hated ATWIAD...just said it was an awful album because to me it is. It just doesn't flow well to me just like I don't think PE flows well. They're choppy albums with good songs that aren't cohesive but that's just my opinion. Out of all his 80s albums, this was his worst to me, just like C&D is his worst 90s album to me. Doesn't mean I hate them but doesn't mean I love them either. I can't hate albums that give me 'Pop Life', 'Condition of the Heart', and 'I Rock Therefore I Am' because I can listen to these three songs all day on repeat but the albums as a whole not soo much.

'Raspberry Beret' is just one of those songs that I didn't like from the first time I heard it. I feel the same way about Madonna's 'Ray of Light'; Michael Jackson's 'In The Closet', Britney Spears' 'Oops I Did It Again', and that awful Trey Songz 'The Neighbors Know My Name'. Everybody has a song or songs that they hate after first listen whether it's from their favorite artist or not and 'Raspberry Beret' is that song for me from Prince. Fanatics don't question their favorite artists; real fans do; and, ATWIAD was not a great album from the opinion of one serious Prince fan but like you said, 'Tastes sure are different' and like I always say 'Different strokes for different folks'. It's okay not to like everything your favorite artist puts out. In fact, it's actually healthy and sane. wink

lol Seriously, you say you hate one song that happened to be a popular song and people make it seem like you just said you hated Jesus. lol It's just a song; there's nothing wrong with hating it. a killer version of it with Candy on the Musicology show, I don't

really enjoy the rollin out my #1 hit way he has of doing it.

I'd say Purple Rain, but that's just not gonna happen. Not in this life, anyway.

I myself would personally like to see 1999 go away. It was amazing before 2000, and now that all of that stuff has come and gone, 1999 really doesn't seem to "fit" anymore...or at least that's the way I feel anyway. Love the song, love the album, but it's time to put it away forever.
