"20TEN" completely revived my flagging fandom. I love this album wholeheartedly and play it several times each week. In fact, I've probably played it more than any album since "TGE." Now I'm dying to get my hands on the deluxe edition.

"20Ten" is a return to the elements that made him big in the 80's: Linndrum, funky rhythm guitar, lots of synth and funky slapbass.

To me it is probably his best album since 2001's "The Rainbow Children". The only thing missing on "20Ten" is the "weirdness" that seems to characterise his best works. I like the album because it sounds like proper Prince music, but it could have done with a bit more adventure (more tracks like Crystal Ball, In All My Dreams, Dorothy Parker etc). Also it could have done with a few less ballads.

Nevertheless I was (and still am) very pleased with the album, I hope to see more work in the same vein being released in the coming years!

Amen to that!!!!!

I heard 20ten the day after Prince gave us the greatest party Roskilde Festival. We were still all high and filled with joy - and listening to 20ten just made that nice and happy feeling continue all summer long..!

I think 20ten is a funky and nice layed back summer hit album - the kind U have a copy of in your car.

Talking my kids to see Prince at Roskilde - and later at Forum really opened their eyes to Prince and they have been grooving to 20ten ever since cool

Future Soul Song is my favorite! And it still strucks me - after all these years as a fan - how easy it sounds. Prince makes music sound so easy to do. I wish I could play like that... neutral

I think you have a point, though my conclusions differ a lot from yours. I'm not pleased with an album that doesn't take any risks (except for "Everybody loves me" and "Laydown"). To me it's just an unexciting journey through your typical Prince sounds. Heard before, better and more adventurous.

Seems there needs to be some singles off this. Hopefully the Coming 2 America tour will spur Prince to release a few.

Any update on the planned deluxe edition???

I recently picked up a nice pair of Sennhieser headphones, the first thing I did was listen to Lavaux. I just love that track,it has such an uplifting vibe.

I will be depressed if the extended version is just a hoax.

I don't see why people hate on it so much. Even if you compare it to other Prince records of the last few years it is good, I dont look at Prince albums like that though, I look at it as its own work, compare to everything else that came out that same week or so. I love it.

A steaming pile of poop.

But this is the last Prince album to date. So, thankfully, we'll be finished with these stupid celebration threads.

In all honesty, have you ever wondered WHY should anyone be interested in what YOU think about Prince's albums? I don't think you have.

well atleast his threads have something positive about them , and its refreshing to see his generally positive views rather then the negativity we see here regarding Prince by so many posters. I like Swa's threads and i know some other people do too, he/she is good at describing songs and which ones they like and which ones they don't. These celebration threads are about a 100 times better then the whiny "prince will never be the same again, prince has lost it threads".

thumbs up!

ten out of ten stars from me and my music opionion. smart, spiritual, funky, rockin', rollin', and always a pleasure to listen to. I love his lyrics and am inspired by his messages. I am glad that he has chosen this direction. I can understand those who craved "fuck" or "Motherfucker" not liking anything he's done lately, but... Prince is the one who has "grown up". Many are still seeking that road of maturity and sadly may never find it. U know who you are. cool

And SWA, thanks a lot for sharing your opinion on all these Prince albums. You really have a way with words, which is nice and easy to read, and I do enjoyed all your posts..

Dont mind the haters, hope you will come back again with some more interesting ideas... lol

I love this album. It is not genius but it is very honest. I think most things tend to be good if they are what they are meant to be. This is a fun pop album with absolutely no pretentions. I feel earlier albums in this decade tend to have tracks on their where Prince is forcing a sound or trying to produce what he thinks people will like-contrived. 20Ten just flows. It is a shame this is so far down his career as I think this would have done quite well as a normal release back in the day

Well said! I see 20Ten as an album where Prince doesn't try hard to fit in with trends, it's just Prince making Prince music.

20ten is Prince's worst album to date, the second worst being the LotusFlow3r set.

I in no way find this album a return to his 80's sound. Some of the same instruments may be there, but the synths sound plastic and shallow, and his guitar work lacks edge and sounds like knock off Santana. There is nothing on this disc that can even come close to recapturing the magic on a Prince hit like Erotic City, or Kiss, or U Got the Look.

In fact, even this album at it's strongest pales in comparison with Prince's weakest 80's Bsides. This material is weaker than the NPG music club stuff. the tracks on 20ten make Jughead look like a masterpiece.

Vitrol may have been a little overly harsh with his wording, but he's right. This album doesn't deserve a celebration. The "My Big Fat Cock: a celebration" thread has more of a right to be up here than 20ten. This album isn't just mediocre, it'll make people think that Prince is crazy and has no musical talent.

If Prince anytime between 1980-1995 had seen the type of music he would be producing in 2010, I'm pretty sure he would have committed suicide. No joke. Except there is a joke here, the music on 20ten

I agree with U 100%. Too many people want everything he records to sound like something from the past that they loved. That is not how creative minds work. People can not tell me that they would hate a job where you do the same thing over and over. I had a job once where it was never different. So you can imagine how someone like Prince's mind works. He is so creative that he can try different things, different sounds, go back to old sounds and mix them with new views and lyrics. Most of the people who have been fans for a short time can not keep up with this genius.
