falloff TRUE!

I guess that's probably why he hasn't been to this part of the world before...imagine him prancing around stage with lace garters, high heels and making out with the mic stand, making obsene sounds.....while singing Erotic City - with full lyrics.

excited

I'll be curious to see what the audience makeup is....i.e. how many natives of UAE, and how many europeans

Well, I think it'll be mostly expats to be honest, especially since the UAE local popluation is very small anyway compared to the number of expats....

Is it inappropriate to ask how to expect the crowd in an - although very modern, rich and striving - muslim country to react to Prince and his preaching? Will he preach or cut it out out of respect?

Is this even relevant?

[Edited 9/28/10 17:07pm]

No it not inappropriate wink

I don't think they will have a problem at all with it.

He is religious..which is fine here.

It becomes a bit of problem if you show signs of being a satanist for example.... evillol

I don't know- some people are so suspicious and cynical about Princes motives...I'm sure there's a million reasons why anti-consumerism, pro-freedom Prince would do a 1 off gig in one if the richest, consumer heavy countries....at one of the highest profile money-crazy events...in a pretty oppressive country (when it comes o freedom of speech and expression) Shame on you lol

As opposed to the freedom of speech & expression we have in the USA, right? wink

Good news Scandalous69, I read the item in one of the local papers in Qatar and the funny thing is, the writer said that he'd be interested in the public reaction, due to Prince' "sexually suggestive" live routine faint lol somebody forgot to do his homework.

I'm on a mission to buy those tickets, its only a 45 minutes flight to Abu Dhabi and if I attend this will be my FIRST Prince concert.

If you're talking about Saudi I would understand, but that's quite a strong statment about the UAE....and don't believe everything you hear/see on TV.....I live here, and I am not Emirati, so I really vouche for it not being oppressive.

YES - I'm ON A MISSION TOO!!!
Trying to stay on top of the news to see when the tickets will be released.

If you have any news, let me know.

Nice to know a fellow Prince fan in this part of the world.

I have lived in Dubai for the past 10 years and I've always had to accept the fact that Prince would probably never consider coming over to this part of the world for a concert wall ....however.....

THAT HAS ALL CHANGED!!! cool

I read the following in Time Out Abu Dhabi today and you can only imagine how ecstatic I was:

http://www.timeoutabudhab...10-line-up

I realise that probably most of the people on this community won't care cause you are mostly living in the US or Europe, but if you have a chance to visit the UAE while he is here, you would be surprised how much fun, sun and lots of other stuff this wonderful country has to offer!

If anyone needs any help booking hotels, suggestions on what to see or do give me a shout!

Oh - interesting!
At that time UAE was still a baby of a country as well.....well now you don't see much Prince anywhere. MJ is King in the Middle East.

But hopefully that will change after Prince gives a blast of a concert here! smile

confuse you're right - I was thinking of Dubai where you can't even kiss in public for fear of being grassed up by a kid to the police and find yourself in court or where some poor young female teacher killed herself after her Saudi ex boyfriend post nude pictures if her on the net and she was wanted...she couldn't get out of the country so topped herself...that's what I meant by oppressive but that obviously isn't the same in Abu Dabi / my bad.

Because it is the land of have your cake and eat it. I'm not anti Islam in the slightest and have been a strong defender of faith. I am very opposed to France's new ruling. However to me it is the same as when we Look at the Republican Party in America or the Tories in the Uk. These people scream patriotism-anything left ripping away at national identity. However it is the business moguls that give jobs to India and china whilst the populace just gets screwed over- and yet they scream faith and flag worship. On may levels the middle east ahs every right to moan about western ignorance-but when you look at Dubai and Arab oil bearing sheiks-their complaints need to start closer to home. The West maybe ignorantly trading but these billionaires are selling (And against Islam) the people down the river.

Abu Dhabi is the richest city in the world, and the sort of place that performers go to when they want to rake in some extra coin. Just 30 kilometers north of the city center sits Yas Island -- home to luxurious hotels that look like spaceships, the world's largest indoor theme park -- Ferrari World -- and the Yas Marina Circuit, which hosts the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yearly on its decked out course. During the grand prix weekend, Abu Dhabi ties in entertainment with Yasalam Live -- concerts "inspired by the passion, energy and glamor of motorsport," according to its promoters Flash Entertainment -- for all race ticketholders. Lucky Prince and Kanye West get to perform.

West performs on November 12 and Prince after the main event on November 14. Hard rockers Linkin Park will take headlining duties on the night between Kanye and Prince. With 50,000 people hitting the grandstands, it's a bill worthy of their drawing power.

Prince needs to Film this, I would do a Pre-Order right now! lol razz lol

I'm glad he's playing someplace new.

I'm glad people there will get the chance to see him perform.

I'm glad he's more than likely getting seriously cashed out for it.

I DON'T understand why people have such an issue with that last point being discussed. It is what it is. This is Prince site and Prince is clearly working with the promoters that will get him the most cash for the least amount of shows right now. Why wouldn't we discuss such a thing at a Prince site? It's not even hate. I do think it will be interesting to see how it affects ticket prices the next time he tours the states. Especially since Musicology tickets were very reasonably priced.

The show is part of the F1 race and if you have a race ticket you are able to see him. I think it's for the race fans only, you won't be able to purchase a ticket just to see him.

This is the only information I have see to date re: tickets so hopefully it will change. I think I am going to travel out for this one. Just need to find a hotel from less than $500/night.

I don't understand it either. He should be paid as much as possible as long as there's a demand for it. I believe that's fair for anyone who works an honest job.

What really bothered me and others was when Prince sent out that press statement about him being the highest paid performer ever at a certain jazz festival. It was pathetically childish and only made him look like a 'haves and have-nots' separatist.

He hasn't done that in this case, so it's a moot point.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I seem to remember there being some public mention of what he was paid to save perform at Coachella, as well. I wonder if sometimes it's not just Prince trying to boast like so many others do these days. Regardless, it doesn't come off well at this point. We know dude likes to get "paid in advance". lol

So what? Do you work for free?

If he can get paid the most he can to do something he loves then who's place is it to call him out for it?

*This could be the fammiest thing i have ever written.

Not fammy just true. I want one of the complainers to name any bank or artist touring the world for free. The bad economy has made a lot of people trip over anyone that is making a living.

It is smart for P to go to new markets and at least one fan on this board said they had been waiting for years for P to come Abu Dhabi so at least one fan is happy. biggrin

You do realize he was touring the whole time he was bitching at the record labels and that is who the comments were directed at.
