This is old news. But no one here seems 2 cares about anything good Prince does. Just everything bad.......

Hate to break it to you, buddy, but you don't get props for doing what you oughta-should.

Taxes are a fact of life in every civilized country with an economy, infrastructure, and government. Period.

Do we really need news stories saying that he paid his taxes? No, because he should've fucking paid them like the rest of us schlubs (who, might i add, don't have the luxury of owning 14 different properties). Who pays for the 1.3 million that Prince decided to shirk (until he paid it off)? Anyone who lives in Carver County.

That isn't taking pride in your homeland or the place you grew up, like Prince so righteously speaks about being (that is, until 20TEN). It's shitting on the people who filled your coffers to begin with, not to mention put up with his bratty ass in the first place.

I love to hear poor people talk about money and taxes like we understand the system....

Question:- Why do accounts and lawyers get paid so much money by very rich people ?

lol

Do you know what an accountant does? That's why someone w/ as much money as Prince has would need an accountant.

Do you know what a lawyer does for a recording artist? That's why someone w/ as much money as Prince has would need a lawyer.

It's not fucking rocket science.

Tell that to:

The guitar manufacturers he stiffed

Tony M and Levi Seacer Jr who sued him

Wendy & Lisa who won't collaborate w/ him because he wants them to work for free

Rosie Gaines who got fed up from him not paying and left his dead ass

I remember hearing that his bandmates got 300 a week which may have been union scale or whatever but considering the magnitude in the 80's wasn't nearly enough. Especially when he sweated everyone who worked for him infamously. To his credit, I hear he compensated fairly later down the road but in a case like Brown Mark who was 19 when he joined and got kicked by P onstage, the money doesn't erase the treatment. Mark Cardenas told me via email that no one liked P and that he was mean, "ghetto" and "not a genius" just "good". Having P as one of my music heroes taught me not to really admire a person just because they did really good work. He is/was what he is, it's ok with me.

What i'm trying to get across to you is that rich people hire and fire , accountants and lawyers for a reason - to save them money!

Poor people like you and me have to do this stuff, we may have a / one account but not a firm working for us!

These firms decide when to take legal action and when stuff get's paid - FACT

Prince only steps in when they mess things up that cost him more money / time to sort out!

Prince hired Firm was late in paying tax but that's the job of professional accountants to delay payment! and make sure the boss is not pay too much!

lol

Of course it is not true. W&L are on the Planet Earth CD and I doubt P is putting a gun to their heads and making them work with him for free. If these two are disgruntled I wish they would just stop working with him instead of bitching about it.

The truth of the matter is if any of these artist had a beef they are free to stop working with him but most were to stupid to do so and when they did sue they received very little money (Levi Seacer and Tony M come to mind) My guess is their is disagreement about how much they contributed to his projects which P has a right to dispute. The solution of couse is to stop working with him.

Each band member received a million dollar bonus after the PR tour. This would have been more than enough money to leave but no one left after that tour.

That's because what better oppurtunities does the average musician have? I am a musician, I know of many, many fantastic skilled musicians, it's not a marketable talent really. I'm not excusing or blaming Prince, just trying to get to how things were. He didn't pay much, he compensated somewhat some people, left others to be broke. Brown Mark called his momma on the 1999 tour cause he couldn't handle the treatment, he was 19, a kid. She would talk him into staying. Now, you and I can say what we want but there are more than a few people from those days who feel they were mistreated by Prince, the oppurtunities he afforded were worth it for many of them I'd say but I'm not gonna sit here and excuse mistreatment for anyone.

I haven't had issues with Prince since Uptown was in publication, bro. Save the psychology lesson.

It only takes 1 moderately-working ear and/or eye to tell that he sings songs talking about not wanting to pay taxes and sure-as-shit what happens? Boy can't pay taxes for the life of him. Nor can he pay for many, many, MANY things that he has left people w/ the tab over the years. You think this is new? You think somehow Prince just kept the same accountants and money people around since... oh, forever? President, please. You are smoking either rocks or pole - either way, you're fucked.

Whatever man! Prince has been in the music industry over 30 years. This is the first time I EVER heard of him not paying his taxes. As far as him not paying people. I never heard of anyone suing him besides this year for anything unpaid.....Usually they just say he don't pay enough....

I have never called Prince choosing anyone as his mate as a "biggest mistake". I don't entertain fantasies about that man, nor no other. I deal in reality. Not sure where my thoughts are "insane".

I just find it a bit odd and very alarming when fans seem to get this ... real personal tone when discussing a celebrity on a fan forum. I have read many people say off the cuff remarks how they thought Prince was fine, or they would love a chance to share a night with him, etc. heck I have said the same thing myself....

but the post about how you can't get Prince on the phone at PP just stopped me short.

Don't bother the man at his home or place of business. Dang. disbelief

and if you haven't done this, then it does not pertain to you, and you should not feel any offense.

wink

eek So fantasizing about a HOT celeb (or none celeb for that matter) is somehow wrong? OK...Just b/c YOU don't do it, doesn't mean people that do are wrong! My GOD, that would mean all the millions of people that fantasize about their fave celeb or crush are crazy!!!

I think we are miscommunicating...I never said I tried to call him and couldn't get him on the phone. I was simply making a common sense remark about how if bill collectors are calling PP, then they won't get him on the phone (this point was made in an article I read about Prince's financial issues that another orger suggested I read). I also said something about him not even opening his own mail, so he doesn't get the collection bills, etc. I'm not saying I personally know this, it's just common sense with a celeb of his status that there are people that handle these things for them.

And I believe an orger asked what everybody FELT was his biggest mistake. I did note other things I felt were mistakes, I just feel marrying her was his biggest career mistake BECAUSE he lost focus on his music, not to mention it caused him alot of personal pain...the relationship, by their own accords, was an unhealthy relationship in some regards. So to me, that was the beginning of a downward spiral. I'm not saying anything negative towards their love, but love isn't enough, and sometimes love can be toxic!! And it didn't last, so it wasn't meant to be. Thankfully, he overcame it and has bounced back.

Mark Cardenas was there, we weren't, his statements have to be given a certain validity. I was not surprised in the least that he said Prince was mean, said that Prince took jams that other musicians did and just replayed them himself for his music, but the "ghetto" statement was a surprise man, P aint' hard or ghetto at all so i just assume he meant classless and tasteless. He also said that P was a high school dropout which just isn't true if the books I read are correct.

I am not into Prince like I was many years ago because I realized that he had become so aggressive to the people that supported him most.

This is a weak story, most of these comments show a lack of understanding business. I am a business owner and sometimes you spend so much of your resources closing deals and being creative that you set aside a very limited amount of time for low priority tasks like paying taxes. I write one check a year for my building lease, one check a year for my insurance, and one check every other year for my taxes...

You also have to keep in mind that there can also be other pending issues that were being resolved or negotiated before final tax amount is established.

IRS tried to stick me with a 237k tax bill but my attorneys saved me 116k, this took 1.5 years.....

True we were not around but Mark was not in the Revolution he was a bit player in Prince world and since he is lying about P not finishing High School maybe he is exaggerating about other things. I do not doubt that P is no picnic to be around but no one can ever explain why they keep hanging around or hung around as long as they did if he is so awful.

For the love of money.

Just because they endure intolerable conditions for a period of time that you deem would be too long for you, doesn't mean that those conditions were indeed intolerable. It just means those people were foolish or desperate to put up with the shit.

Wow! I can't believe this is an 8-page debate. Prince probably didn't pay his taxes for the same reason he stiffed many of his bandmates, employees, and associates...He's cheap. He's always been cheap. I love the man to death, but even I call it like it is and say he's a cheapskate and has been for quite some time now. Many of his videos show his lack of wanting to spend money and the fact that the man pretty much started the digital downloading system/internet website marketing just tells you that he is a penny pincher.

His thought processes were: Why pay to have CDs pressed and all that extra visual marketing when you can just make people turn on their computers that they are paying internet access for and pay you to download a song onto a blank disc or mp3 player that they bought? No having to pay advertising companies, designers, record labels, or distributors...ka-ching, more money in the Princely pocket right there.

We all know that Prince is sitting on $100s of millions of dollars right now so we know money was not a problem. He's got the same mentality that many rich people have...cut corners where you can and pray that nobody notices. It's a property tax. Regular people don't pay them either because they either forget; they don't have the extra money to pay them when they are due; or they think they have been included in the mortgage of the property which is really a miscommunication issue.

For the rich folks, embezzlement from the money handlers has happened to quite a few celebrities over the past few years. Nicolas Cage lost millions because of his financial advisor who had been stealing from him for quite some time. Part of me wants to believe it's a miscommunication problem between him and his financial advisors but I honestly just think he was trying to cut corners like he's done before and hoped it went unnoticed, which it didn't, so he handled his business and took care of his debt, which is all I would expect from anyone; rich or not.

Co-sign. I have said a million times on this topic. Most wealthy people are cheap and they do not like paying taxes. They will do anything to put it off or try to get out it. In addtion, they have access to CPA's and attorneys to work on their behalf.
