And same here... I have been paying taxes since I was a kid. So I know what it means to have to pay taxes. And yeah, I hate it. But if I don't pay... nobody is going to defend me or declare what I have done (or not done) is right, justified or honorable. See, that is what has happened here.

Never been late on taxes. It's a tradition for me to be out there 11pm on the 15th mailing off my taxes, and having the news film us procrastinators.

No, sorry. Never missed a payment. I make sure to either mail the payment with ample time, or transfer the funds. If I notice the payment hasn't cleared, I call the company to make a payment via phone. It's not being an anal, robotic, lifeless prick, it's being fiscally responsible.

right, and not wanting to mess up your credit. It almost becomes an obsession with me know after having bad credit for so many years. I am almost monthly checking my fico scores, researching what I can do to increase my score, then re-checking to see if it worked. My goal is to top 800.

It is not a mentality or phenomena that afflicts musicians. Everyone may at one point have trouble paying their bills or taxes for a myriad of reasons. Whether lack of fiscal judgment or lack of funds for whatever reason.

I find it amazing the amount of folks here so hardcore about taxes. Almost everyone I know has had problems paying their taxes at one point or another, the wealthy as well as the poor.

The IRS on the other hand is NOT being hardcore at the moment. It is being very reasonable and has been willing to work out flexible payment arrangements lately because of the epic amount of Americans having trouble paying their taxes during this recession.

I think some of you people are tripping.

I think you are reading way too much in my statements. They come down to 2 points: 1) artists are not exempt from paying taxes, 2) some of these syocphants need to get a grip.

at the end of the day it isn't really much of our business but my point was just that money and greed complicate things badly and that seeing things in black or white is just silly. At least in my life, it's rare that you can just deal with financial things without lots of useless finagling, haggling, arguing, and not everyone is suited to that. It just wears some people out.

Thank you! Some people are so full of it! No one in their life is perfect, no matter how much they pretend to be. They are only fooling themselves! Even those anal people are caught sometimes. I just love seeing them get caught being late or messing up, it freaks them out for months!

Well, I could care less about public schools! I WILL NOT be taking advantage of those EVER! So it ticks me off that I have to pay for the damn schools that teach a bunch of crap I don't believe in! My kids would never step foot in a public school...but that's a whole other topic!

Now as to those other things, I pay for trash, water, etc. so yes I expect them to be there when I need them. Not the same thing as taxes. Bills are bills, it's the ridiculous taxes! Like the public transportation, pothole free streets, etc. are NOT being taken care of, which is why it's so annoying! So it's not a rant, it's a legitimate complaint. I went lived near Baltimore for a few years, and they have HORRIBLE streets, and yet taxes were sky high in Maryland! And those dead animals...the ones animal control won't come and get half the time? Called them once about an opposum, and they say they don't deal with wild animals! And another thing, paying for social security and medicare, something that I may never take advantage of...especially since everyday they complain of how social security will be broke in 20yrs anyway. Then why the hell do I have to still pay for it? That is the kind of BS that pisses me off with this gov't and it's taxes. So yes, I have a right to be upset about it. As you can see, our country hasn't been using the taxpayers money wisely!! Wake up, this country ain't no bed of roses!!

Well, it's just hard to believe, most of my unpaid bills are just due to lack of money, others I let be a little late and pay the penalty because of scheduling constraints. Often times, everything is so deceptive or tricky that one or two slip ups cause a repossession and bad credit. Or, as in the case of my best friend, you get plain ripped off. He had college loans, consolidated them and paid 1800 to a company who come to find out has no record of any of his payments, now he has to prove with his account that he made the payments, this guy has a wife and four kids, that's not easy to throw away that kind of money. Personally, I just don't give out my card info anymore, too many times i made a payment once with it and they, without permission, use the card again for another payment, and I don't get into any contracts, I own a prepaid wireless, use wifi in coffee shops or the like. People this recession has hit some of us harder than others, especially if you were already at the bottom. Banks and business' have become super aggressive in this depression about using any angle they can to keep from going under. Prince will be fine though, all he has to do is show up and play his guitar to fill the coffers.

The ethics of what you assume normal are for your consideration, of course.

An income that he DOESN'T handle single handedly! Geez, how hard is it to believe that a man on Prince's caliber would have a PA handle things for him? Anybody with that kind of financial empire has to have someone else handling it for him. Prince spends all day creating music, when does he have to time to look into every single bill he gets? He'd be doing that all day, the guy probably doesn't even open his own mail! And when you call PP, you don't get him on the phone. So the people to blame should be his PA and financial advisers. But of course, hating on Prince is more popular around these parts...
