You pay bills to your family?

Seriously: paying bills late, especially as late as mr Prince does, has no excuse;

especially when you have a decent to extravagant income.

An income that he DOESN'T handle single handedly! Geez, how hard is it to believe that a man on Prince's caliber would have a PA handle things for him? Anybody with that kind of financial empire has to have someone else handling it for him. Prince spends all day creating music, when does he have to time to look into every single bill he gets? He'd be doing that all day, the guy probably doesn't even open his own mail! And when you call PP, you don't get him on the phone. So the people to blame should be his PA and financial advisers. But of course, hating on Prince is more popular around these parts...rolleyes

Well that seems obvious, the CEO doesn't generally answer the main phone line at their company; but something tells me you know this from actually trying to call Prince at Paisley Park.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

and it probably is the misstep of one of his employees.

Still when BP's oil rig blew up, who got the blame and bad press? the rig's site engineer? The regional manager? the gulf region for being the host to vast oil resources? No, it was BP and rightfully so. Same here... just on a smaller scale.

No one is disowning Prince... no one is saying he is a bad person. People are shaking their heads in wonder, and calling him out for not doing something that most Americans do... pay their taxes.

And yes, some of us are late paying bills.... sometimes it is because we are unable to pay; sometimes it is because we forget. But make no mistake... whatever the reason, it is what it is.

You didn't pay. You were late, you were negligent, a deadbeat etc. Nobody looks at one of us not paying taxes and responds with...

everyone is a hate

The taxes weren't really due anyway....etc. etc.

Not paying taxes or having to be sued to pay them is just that. I don't see why this is such a problem.

If you think it is not anyone's business... you are wrong. It is public record. If you think the newspaper shouldn't report it... see above. if you think we on the org shouldn't feel interested in discussing it... then you are entitled to yours, everyone is entitled to their own.

I second that! cop I got that feeling on more than one thread... but didn't want to say anything. It is a real.... REAL.

What kind of person actually look up the number to PP, call the number and ask for Prince? The same one who says

the worst mistake Prince made was marrying Mayte.

I always wonder about people with this attitude. Let me ask you a few questions...

Would you like to continue having police and firemen respond whenever you or a loved one may need to call 911?

Do you think it's a good idea to have public schools?

When you turn on your shower would you like to continue having decent water coming out of it.

What about garbage? Would you prefer to haul it to the dump yourself?

What about picking up stray and dead animals off the street? Not to mention dead people?

Do you ever go to the park?

What about filling the potholes and keeping the traffic lights working?

Public transportation?

Just how in the hell do you think all of that happens...by magic?

Quit the hysterical ranting and use your common sense. All of the things you take for granted have to be paid for. Period.

Too many people in this world want something for nothing, disbelief

And no...I have never paid my taxes late.

Well, I could care less about public schools! I WILL NOT be taking advantage of those EVER! So it ticks me off that I have to pay for the damn schools that teach a bunch of crap I don't believe in! My kids would never step foot in a public school...but that's a whole other topic!

Now as to those other things, I pay for trash, water, etc. so yes I expect them to be there when I need them. Not the same thing as taxes. Bills are bills, it's the ridiculous taxes! Like the public transportation, pothole free streets, etc. are NOT being taken care of, which is why it's so annoying! So it's not a rant, it's a legitimate complaint. I went lived near Baltimore for a few years, and they have HORRIBLE streets, and yet taxes were sky high in Maryland! mad And those dead animals...the ones animal control won't come and get half the time? Called them once about an opposum, and they say they don't deal with wild animals! And another thing, paying for social security and medicare, something that I may never take advantage of...especially since everyday they complain of how social security will be broke in 20yrs anyway. Then why the hell do I have to still pay for it? That is the kind of BS that pisses me off with this gov't and it's taxes. So yes, I have a right to be upset about it. As you can see, our country hasn't been using the taxpayers money wisely!! Wake up, this country ain't no bed of roses!!

Mature people realize that nothing is perfect and we work to make things better.

Still, we don't regularly have raw sewage in the streets, widespread disease epidemics, and I doubt you drive down dirt roads with no working traffic signals. Hell...I hear we even have street lights in some places! Clearly somebody is doing something.

The point being, this ain't exactly a third world country...yet.

Btw, your water bill only pays for the line to your house. The actual water and sewage treatment is paid for by taxes. Not the same thing.

And when was the last time you attended a public hearing to have a say in how your tax dollars are spent? I thought so. I remind you again that none of this happens by magic.

But in reading your various ramblings I see a lot more "me" than "we", so I get it...carry on, by all means.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

those are good points, things do function halfway decent in a lot of places. doesn';t mean there is rampant bilking and corruption, i look at my city and how they rip apart streets that often times don't even need repaving and just shake my head but realize someone is making some real dough off how it all works. We have a light rail going up soon, we had a bus tunnell that was suppossed to fix things in seattle, all excuses to just make more money, none of it's really necessary but the common citizen has no control of those things, that kind of corruption will eventually end up in bankruptcy though, i mean Seattle is already known to be broke, where they get money from i don't know.

Oh I know that's true. We have a similar problem where I live. The politicos sign off on projects that the citizens neither want or need because they get kickbacks and other perks from their wealthy buddies who are developers/contractors.

But instead of organizing to fight, people throw up their hands and give up...that's how the same people keep getting elected over and over. They ain't worried because they know that most people won't do anything but talk.

You can fight city hall...but most people don't even try to find out how.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm glad P is putting his affairs in order because I'd hate to see him end up like Sammy or Redd Foxx. He and his heirs should be the ones to benefit from all his accomplishments, not some government entity. It's really heartbreaking to see how some of our best and brightest have ended up on the skids because of letting things go for too long.

ya, the good thing about our later generations at least of my generations top entertainers, they did better moneywise than the earlier guys like Little Richard, Chuck Berry etc.., etc., I recently read in Ray Charles' bio that he said a great black singer died broke and owing the record company, I assumed it was Nat King Cole who if you don't know was a quiet revolutionary and one of the most talented jazz pianists as well as great singers of all time. I think Prince will be fine, like any other group of minorities who have limited exposure to finances, meaning not hundreds or thousands of years handling money (like my own people who are horrible with money) the newer generations get gradually better.

So his PA is incompetent?
The handling of his financials sucks.
Whether he does those himself or not does not matter, he is responsible in the end.

He has plenty of income, so let him organise his stuff.

that's one take, could be true, i heard about guys like Elvis and Michael hiring asshole buddies of theirs to do key postions, or even family. Not really a sound idea. It is rock and roll and the checks and balances or the hiring process to get top people into every position will not be the same as for a real company. Unless you can perform multiple functions at one time, be in multiple places and stay up to watch everything at all times, there's no hundred percent way of anything. I don't mind, my point is, any one person only controls so much, that is why artists really do mean so much anyway. Bruce Springsteen's The Promise is about the promise this country makes to all it's citizens and how the failure of that promise has consequences in the spirits of the people. don't worry about me, I won't lose sleep, but those kinds of things are a constant in this society, whether it's a guy going to law school for eight years or a janitor hoping for his children somewhere. So to make an eden or a utopia or even a fulfillment of the promise that this country gave in which everyone can live with some dignity in life cannot be kept, so you make a big deal out of a pop star being late on a few bills?

Now that I believe. Many entertainers feel obligated to bring buds from old neighborhood to do jobs that should be done by professionals with education and training. Instead they get Ron that they grew up with to handling finances, or promoting, or managing... thinking that old friends are trustworthy. Truth be told, look at what happened to Ray Charles. He had an old friend take care of his finances, and when an outsider was brought it, it turns out that the friend was skimming off of the top. anyone can be tempted to steal from you... even your own brother.

i saw that in the movie, didn't say much about that in his bio that I can remember so I don't know how much truth that had to it. You know, I recently saw Walk The Line and it was so hollywoodized that it was ridiculous. Anyway, if the guy did do that to Ray, Ray was a sharp businessman given that he was blind and uneducated, he got ripped off i'm sure but not so much that he didn't die rich, or at least that's the story I got.

And yes, in that sense, if Prince did hire his buddies to do that stuff he deserves what he gets. I worked at a bar where the owner had no logic or common sense whatsoever about who to hire. He was ripped off constantly when he had to leave town. Tell the truth, we get what we want, i came to believe he liked the cat and mouse drama of it all. Sometimes people are too cheap to pay good people and as long as the money rolls in well enough, they will keep incompetence around for awhile.

The Bible says something about when one wayward soul finds there way back there is great cause for rejoicing. So, yes, Prince should have paid up long ago but it is great news that he is balancing his finances now and not waiting for others to totally force him into it - and loosing so much money and property unnecessarily. Red Foxx, Sammy Davis Jr, plenty of people left this earth close to pennyless when they should have left behind a small fortune.

Better late then never, woot! "give Ceasar what is Ceasar's ".

not just penniless but in debt, sammy's story is particularly tragic in terms of his artistry, the IRS owns his likeness and they do not do anything in the entertainment industry so that is why he will be forgotten about by new generations, he also owed 3 mill at the time of his death, he said something to the effect of "if they want that when I'm dead they can come dig me up and take it". Joe Louis was another travesty, his son recounted stories of how the irs took monies from college funds for his kids, and his son said it was the IRS' way of saying "we still got you boy". The tragic thing was, the taxes he owed were largely from wartime purses which he gave to war funds as charity. When I say money isn't that simple it just isn't. Not in this country. You can't count on people to do it for you as in accountants and lawyers because they will take a fair share and sometimes rip you off too, it happens. Richard Pryor had people like that rip him off horribly.

This is why people should do just what the Bible says and give Caesar what is his. Uncle Sam can be worse then the Mafia when it comes to going after you and your family for what he feels is owed to him. I would have expected Prince to learn more from those in the entertainment industry that went before him.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Well that seems obvious, the CEO doesn't generally answer the main phone line at their company; but something tells me you know this from actually trying to call Prince at Paisley Park.

cop

lol Actually I haven't! That's too stalkerish..besides,what would I say? "Can I speak to Prince?" and when he came to the phone.."Hey honey, what are you doing?" OK, that sounds fine, but he'd be like "WTF?" razz I'm more of a face to face, one on one type. Seeing him would make me talk, over the phone, I'd be too nervous probably, especially if I had to initiate the conversation.

and it probably is the misstep of one of his employees.

I definately see what you're saying in relation to BP..and Prince. But that's never been my philosophy. Why blame someone for someone else's mistakes? That's not right, nor is it fair. But yeah, it's the way the media is. And saying Prince is a deadbeat gets them more sales than saying his PA is. But I don't surround myself with self-righteous people. We are all entitled to mistakes and calling someone a loser because they didn't pay taxes or bills on time isn't right or cool with me. Since I know how much alot of people are struggling. And none of us know that Prince isn't struggling financially. Last time I checked, none of us were privy to his financial records. So for all we know, he could be having cash problems like the rest of the world. That's all I'm saying.

And Prince not paying taxes/bills isn't anyone's business. Just like other personal things aren't anyone's business. At best the only people who should be concerned are the people of Carver Co or the state of MN. Since most of us are not personally involved, then discussing it is just for gossip and entertainment. And hating on someone seems to be more popular and enjoyable than loving on them. Whether we discuss the type of issues or not has nothing to do with if we really have the right to or not. I don't mind anyone having their own opinions, but this is a discussion board and we can debate if we have different opinions, no love lost.

Oh, I see, so your logic is..."Our country isn't a 3rd world country, so we should just be happy with the shitty treatment some people receive just because we aren't as bad as other places?" Um, ok.

There are things about this country that are worth appreciating! That I do and living in Mexico helped me with that. But there are plenty of things about this country that are NOT worth being proud of and therefore I'm not turning a blind eye on those and just loving it anyway. That's NOT the way things get changed!! One has to not only voice disapproval but also take action to get things changed.

I used to be heavily involved in that whole public meetings, etc. as I used to want to go into politics... not so much now. I realized that working to change a country that no longer puts GOD first is worthless since you can't make someone have the same morals. I'm more focused on personal growth now, which is what alot of people should be focused on instead of blaming the world for it's unhappiness. Still doesn't mean that I'm not well aware of what's wrong in the world.

It's like with public schools...I could spend YEARS working to get prayer and the teaching of creationism back in the schools like I think it should be. But why? It seems to be fine for the majority, so instead of working to change it, I just avoid it. Alot simpler! And it's fine, there are over 2million people in this country alone that have decided the same thing, which is why homeschooling is on the rise.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

those are good points, things do function halfway decent in a lot of places. doesn';t mean there is rampant bilking and corruption, i look at my city and how they rip apart streets that often times don't even need repaving and just shake my head but realize someone is making some real dough off how it all works.

Whenever work is done on the roads, it's great to see. B/C not only are we getting new roads, but we are giving somebody some work..so that's great!! Those things make one happy to support the city, etc. They announced toward the end of last year that the city would get a new art college that would cost the city something like 50million dollars or something, so utilities were going up. Well that was fine at first b/c I was like "oh good, the kids will have some more cultural opportunities." Then a few days later, they run an article about how the kids in "some areas" didn't even have enough textbooks for school! We have 50million dollars to spend on an art school, but our elementary kids don't even have the textbooks they need? That is NOT right! And it wasn't a decision decided by the public...it was decided by the city workers who also just got bad press about not issuing paychecks to lower level workers(excuse was the city didn't have the money:-o ), yet the top level workers not only got paid but got bonuses! It's this kind of situations that makes one VERY upset with things. mad

Entertainment and certain sports like boxing are almost to the level of piracy when it comes to that kind of thing. Professional etiquette, strict scheduling and educational background don't alway play a part.

You're right there! I think celebs hire people they know being nice and then it bites them in the butt b/c that person doesn't care and/or doesn't have the skills to do the job proficiently! Prince needs to be more aware of the people he hires and keeps them in check! He has been quoted as saying he doesn't want to deal with the business side of it, but he has to if he wants to avoid problems like this!

I have never called Prince choosing anyone as his mate as a "biggest mistake". I don't entertain fantasies about that man, nor no other. I deal in reality. Not sure where my thoughts are "insane".

I just find it a bit odd and very alarming when fans seem to get this ... real personal tone when discussing a celebrity on a fan forum. I have read many people say off the cuff remarks how they thought Prince was fine, or they would love a chance to share a night with him, etc. heck I have said the same thing myself....

but the post about how you can't get Prince on the phone at PP just stopped me short.

Don't bother the man at his home or place of business. Dang. disbelief

and if you haven't done this, then it does not pertain to you, and you should not feel any offense.

eek So fantasizing about a HOT celeb (or none celeb for that matter) is somehow wrong? OK...Just b/c YOU don't do it, doesn't mean people that do are wrong! My GOD, that would mean all the millions of people that fantasize about their fave celeb or crush are crazy!!!

I think we are miscommunicating...I never said I tried to call him and couldn't get him on the phone. I was simply making a common sense remark about how if bill collectors are calling PP, then they won't get him on the phone (this point was made in an article I read about Prince's financial issues that another orger suggested I read). I also said something about him not even opening his own mail, so he doesn't get the collection bills, etc. I'm not saying I personally know this, it's just common sense with a celeb of his status that there are people that handle these things for them.

And I believe an orger asked what everybody FELT was his biggest mistake. I did note other things I felt were mistakes, I just feel marrying her was his biggest career mistake BECAUSE he lost focus on his music, not to mention it caused him alot of personal pain...the relationship, by their own accords, was an unhealthy relationship in some regards. So to me, that was the beginning of a downward spiral. I'm not saying anything negative towards their love, but love isn't enough, and sometimes love can be toxic!! And it didn't last, so it wasn't meant to be. Thankfully, he overcame it and has bounced back.

didn't mean that in quite the smartass way it came off but I learned the hard way that that mentality just doesn't work. I'd be going along, doing everything then my training or my piano playing would conflict with the often physical and mentally challenging jobs us po' folks get. I paid with burnouts, physical and emotional. I'd love to be able to do everything and let me tell you, if you offer everything there are employers and teachers and all kinds of authority figures who will say "good boy" until that moment when you're empty and when they can't get anymore out of you they turn on you with a vengeance, ya that's right, seen it happen to not only me but family, fellow fighters too. You have to pick which battles you want to fight and ignore the rest as best as you can, and in my case, try to be a decent loving person and treat people better than they would treat you.
