Getting back to the point of the thread... ...I think Shelby, Liv and Elisa bring energy, perfect voices and a grown-up eye candy to the gigs. Somewhere Here On Earth

like i said some of yall folks can't handle these sisters sangin, they are talented singers, you are used to those nasal singing white folks from the 80's, these chicks been taking it to chuuch, alot yall aint even stepped in one to even have a clue about what that sounds like alot of yall done forget where Prince came from, but he aint and yall got an issue with it that he will never be gay or a white, and will never have white back-up singers since he been off a major

Not that it matters, (although it seems like it matters to you), but Elisa is white.
Hmmm... | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The "sistas" should take "it" to the "chuuch" and stay there with "it".
Nobody except a couple of narrowminded people like you are talking about colour ( Rosie and Cat are black, Miko, levi etc etc..it's already been said) .
We just want talented people with something else to give than crap cabaret yelping.

Backing vocals >>>>>>>>> Sampled Prince harmonies.

Now THIS I wholeheartedly agree with!! Back in the mid to late 90s when all the background vox were samples of himself, that used to irritate the shit outta me! It's like, why not let the band sing those lines instead of advertising that they're samples! Coulda been because the band members at the time couldn't sing, but then why even have them in the lineup at all, if that was the case! From when he started to the early NPG, the bands were always responsible for singing those lines, and the did a FINE job of it. No vocal samples heard from the stage at all!
This brings me back to this current "band". They're a bunch of hired players with no kind of synergy whatsoever. At best, they're a cover band. I have rarely ever heard them deliver backing vocals, but that's probably because he's had Shelby/Liv/Elisa and the Twinz at various times, rendering the band's need to provide vox obsolete.
I don't necessarily care for Prince giving someone like Shelby 3-4 songs on lead, as I'd rather hear Prince (the person I paid the money to see) out on front. She can sang, for sure, but her time in spotlight gets a little lengthy to me at times.

Shelby is a talented singer and a real sweet woman - I don't really know the others so can't make no remark, Cora has great dress sense (we go to the same designer heehhehe lol), and P decides who's in his band not us - so show some respect !!!!

I disagree RE: Shelby, Liv and Elisa. I think they're strong together and add a fuller dimension 2 the songs they do live. I think the live versions of "Ol' Skool Company" and "No More Candy 4 U" are good examples of songs that (2 me anyway) were elevated because of their vocal parts on them.
But I should also add about Josh and Cora: They took a while 2 win me over. I really didn't see or hear anything fantastic in their work and 4 a long time I thought Prince was just super in2 the idea of having a rhythm section that was a Husband and Wife. Think about it, he's had far less skilled musicians in his fold 4 far sillier reasons. That having been said, both have grown on me in the last few years. crap cabaret yelping."
See when you make these type of comments people are assuming it has something to do with race. At time do this woman "yelp" Get a fucking grip on reality. You do not like soulful singing like a lot of orgers.

?????????? Whether she is black, arab, white or whatever I think she's crap.
Sorry if this upsets you!

like a variety of flowers in a garden, i think these ladies add beautiful quality to Prince's music, and he should not let them go, especially if the next choices are merely based upon appearance/looks...coz these Sisters can sing!

It does not upset me that you have a hearing and taste problem and are confusing funk with cabaret music.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Seemingly it does!!!
Get over it!...and don't worry when P gets tired of her overrated yelping you'll still be able to catch her in some cheap hotel lounge, leaning on the piano as she struggles through " Smoke gets in your eyes"

I do not have to get over anything. You would not know good music or singing if it fell out of the sky and hit you square in the head and I am not the only one on this thread that thinks that. You have been out voted.

OK...I'd like to apologise......to all those who love that great standard "Smoke...."

eirboy,
Many people pay a lot of money for theiir kids to take voice/singing lessons so they can have that same "chuch" sound, those "sistas" (Liv and Shelby) that you are referring to.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
this is prince land.
the best way to lose the backup singers is to say you love them, they absolutely make the show, and bring out the very best in prince. He NEEDS them.
= they're fired the next day.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
nah. that's the kind of singing people do to cover up the fact that they aren't that good. a lot of people have this affect because there is nothing interesting or that great about the way they sing.

You need to get your ears checked. Paula aint never had pipes like that... Change it one more time..
