So I guess people who want him to revert back to the old days will be satisfied.

Prince in 2010 making outtakes from 1981. Cool, lol.

Woah, certainly more MPLS Sound than MPLSound. Compassion sounds like it directly samples the beat to Let's Pretend We're Married.

The lyrics in these clips sound really flat though, tuneless - I'm still worried about his modern day song writing capabilities.

And remember folks - Prince is NOT living in the past. lol

I don't agree. He's doing his own lyric style here and not trying to sound "hip". I dig this a LOT better than recent efforts. Love where he sings about "snow" "mountains" and "streets of portugal". I hope it's all like these clips..

Oh dear, this sounds terrible to me. I suppose it had to happen sooner or later though, loved everything since 3121. I thought Musicology was a bit weak but this sounds worse sad.

Obviously I'll reserve final judgement until I've heard everything in context but I'm not so excited now.

RIP sad

What kind of cracks me up about these clips is that he is clearly pandering to a certain audience (blind of race, let that thread die where it did).

It's like, "I hate my past! Don't look at my past! .....Hold up, hold up, can a brotha get an advance? I swear these tunes is good! Got my Linn Drum and everything, ya hear?"

Sorry, when I said "modern day song writing" I just meant his song writing in the modern day, not writing songs for the current pop charts. smile

I like what I'm hearing so far. This is what MPLSound should have been, IMO. Granted, it's only three clips, but it sounds to me like he may have gotten it right this time.

Man, now I feel compelled to bring up Jakeasarus' review and laugh at his assessment of "Lauvaux"...

I guess we can finally confirm him, for real, to be a trick ass liar and a troll.

What did he say about Lauvaux?

I remember he said one of the tracks sounded like 1999, and when Compassion started, I was thinking "Damn!.... Little dude was for real?!?!" falloff

I am definitely digging these clips. Great old-school sound - to my ears, the music takes me as far back as the Prince album.

I remember him saying Lavaux was instrumental.

I like what I hear except I agree with NouveauDance about the lyrics in these clips sounding flat and...oh I don't know, I can't really identify what it is that doesn't seem 'right' to me about them - he sorta sounds like he's talk/singing or something, if that makes sense....like, no real identifiable melody to them.

Of course these are only short clips, so they could be misleading and I realize that. I'm still very excited to hear the entire album because I'm loving the drums and I'll say it right now with no shame: it'll be fine with me if Prince has 'reverted' back to his old days for this album! biggrin

A pale and sanitised immitation of a bygone era of genius.

Its sad that nothing here actually seems to move forward in artistic terms.

I used to get each album from Dirty Mind up until pretty much lovesexy and feel a bit uncomfortable with the huge leaps from one style to another until I'd gotten used to the new songs and styles just because the content was so massively different from one album to another. Now it seems each song is an attempt to dip into his back catalogue and recreate the old magic but unsuccessfully.

I'd love to see Prince immerse himself in every style of music from every great period, throw away the rule book and come up with something so off the wall and hybrid that people couldn't criticise it because of the sheer magnitude of imagination like back in the days of Around the world in a day and Parade etc.

I feel a bit down listening to those clips to be honest

Compassion - Same vein as Dance 4 Me, has the same type of keyboard sounds as Hot Summer, the ladies sound good - the "you need compassion, compassion" part of Cause and Effect mirrors the chorus of this song as far as delivery/vocal effects

Beginning Endlessly - Lolita part 2, fat synths, cool dual vocals in each headphone

Future Soul Song - Remember the ending of The Dance on 3121, with the screaming and the "it's just not faiyah!"? It's back in this song, along with the vocal delivery of Somewhere Here on Earth. People who liked SHoE will like this song.

Sticky Like Glue - Black Sweat part 2 (I'm thinking this album is supposed to be as good as 3121) mixed with Ol Skool Company - we have some Camille, a rap similar to the one on Incense and Candles - I love this song

Lavaux - Synth sounds just like 1999, lyrics are cheesy and bad, the tempo picks up with some handclaps and finger snaps

Act of God - Dreamer-esque, Fury, etc. Colonized Mind caliber lyrics. Bleh.

Walk in the Sand - Same type of live band nursery rhyme as All the Midnights in the World, except I like Midnights better. It segues straight into

Sea of Everything - Same type of song as On the Couch / Satisfied, except slightly more futuristic sounding and not to retro. No organs.

Everybody Loves Me - I think he recorded this at the same time as Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful ... this one is fun and funky

I know there's supposed to be a bonus track, but it's not included on the leak that I found...

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Auto-tune (in Beginning Endlessly), I could be without, but I can hope it's a beauty spot on an over-all good record.

I'm not impressed, but not disappointed either.

Strange as it sounds, I kinda agree with both the negative and positive comments here - it does ound cool and interesting, but something's a bit off and disturbing.

BTW, I don't think that this is just throwback, the sounds, especially on Compassion, sound very 2010 actually 9not sure whether that's good or bad...).

All sounds a bit throwaway still, but have to hear the whole thing to judge - does sound fun, tho.

The big question. though: WHy does the announcer have an American accent if this is a UK ad????

"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

I like what i hear....this is a return 2 form 2 the 1999 sound style, production is not as raw as the same sound from 1999 but we are much more closer with this sound than the fake Minneapolis sound used on MPLS last year!!
