Well, I like the sound. Love the 'retro' elements.

Doesn't indicate Prince is in 2010 making new songs from '82. Just means he is using some vintage elements, re-discovering parts of his older sounds. Regardless, tell me what IS truly modern and contemporary these days? True innovations?

If Hip-Hop can sample Prince, Prince sure as hell can.

If Pharrell keeps digging up Prince's minimalist 80's productions and touching them up with modern drum-machines, Prince sure as F--- can.

Prince can't win. If he makes a typical contemporary album he's accused of 'following trends.'

If he employs a more band-oriented, organic sound, it will be largely denounced as 'flat and boring.'

If he releases R&B it will be labeled 'plastic' and 'generic.'

A Funk Album will be 'dated' with 'over-long jams' and 'unfocused songwriting.'

More seem satisfied with Prince's rock material, but even then, it will 'lack the energy' of Prince's live performances be 'over-produced' or some other shit.

I am not suggesting we should all unanimously love everything Prince does, but I'm pretty convinved people here would have complained in '87 when he released 'Sign O Times.' In '88 'Lovesexy' would have been 'over-produced', 'grandiose' with 'too many instruments in the mix' and 'ridiculous lyrics.' 'Parade' would be an 'unfocused' mess with 'alien' parisian and orchestral sounds; 'over-indulgent' rather than 'truly experimental.' 'Around the World in a Day' Prince's 'psychedelic, beatles hangover', a real 'dissapointment' after the glories of 'Purple Rain.' '1999', a 'plastic dance album' missing the raw, up-front sounds of 'Dirty Mind' and 'Controversy'. And so on, right back to 'For You.'

I remember after parade I do not love Sign o the times. And after the black album I do not love most of the lovesexy songs, I think this is true. Infact this is not a '80 nostagia. For example after "parade" I put "the truth" in my favorite. And the "the rainbow children"/N.E.W.S is one of my favorite era. I thank prince to have released things like "object in the mirror" or "xpedition", really. I lost prince after musicology.

have a nice day

It appears to be disabled, I don't know if that is permanent or not. Shame, I never got hear it.

YOU know, with all of this anti internet bs Prince is flaunting, I would not have even known the name of the album without the org on the INTERNET>

We are all so full of doody here

No no no *sigh*

Honey, that's all wrong. You see when making a post here, there are a few words you HAVE to use (it's in the terms of service) and they are:

Love, hate, rage, roadkill, die, die, die, angry, I, wanna, have, his, baby, genius, madman, shit, crap, hate, burn, burn, burn, orgasm, fams, purists, hell, heaven, refreshing, outdated.

And if in doubt, you can always squeeze in rhetorical questions like:

"What's wrong with you?" or

"Are you stuck in the 1980s?" or

"Don't you know music kid? This isn't music it's _[insert obligatory word from the checklist here]___ you shaved baffoon".

So in good spirit, I've fixed your entry to better suit the .org spirit:

People You idiots here are far too critical and blobbering half wits and have clearly negative about not the capacity to see the divine in Prince's my personal God's newer ground breaking latest material manna from the skies.

Oh and on the song clips manna, Lavaux sounds real good have me rolling on the floor in acute body orgasm (there's body fluids everywhere) razz

[Edited 7/6/10 6:06am]

There, fixed. Every good debate, as you know, is after all based on the principle of screaming ones head off in an overly dramic fashion. All progress is made this way.

lol

Anyway, Lavaux is perhaps my least favorite of the three.

So I guess people who want him to revert back to the old days will be satisfied.

Prince in 2010 making outtakes from 1981. Cool, lol.

One of the biggest misconceptions about us "80's Prince lovin" fans is that we want newer Prince material to sound like 80's material. WRONG! We want newer Prince material to sound inspired and creative like it did in the 80's, because virtually every 80's Prince album sounded different. We don't want some retread of 1999 or SOTT, and just because there's a Linn drumbeat doesn't mean we will love it.

[Edited 7/6/10 3:29am]

I do agree with this. It is that feeling of " I don't think I like Prince anymore coz this is far too wack" 1 week later" My God this is brilliant". However even if Prince could pull this feat off today I don't think the Mirror would be avery good place to start.

Just to add to this, every Prince album has sounded different since 1990 - 2010, not sure what your point is ? Prince has never repeated any album and his sound is his sound, so to say he's doing a retread is pushing the boat out a bit too far ..... lol

I'm not saying that this album will be a retread. What I meant by "every 80's album sounding different" is that there was no 1 "80's Prince" sound that could be easily copied today that would make me happy, because that's not what it's about. 80's Prince, at least for me, sounded and felt like someone who was trying to be creative and make great music, to not just rest on "eh, this is ok, it will do". It wasn't just the Linn, or the MN sound keyboards, or the falsetto, or the guitar (without the accompaning keyboard underneath), it was all of that and more. And no, every 80's Prince song wasn't great, but even the failures were interesting. Current Prince sounds like someone just going through the motions, at least to my ears.

God, I want this CD! I actually really liked every album since 3121, minus the piles of filler tracks. I think he's been on a good run for the most part. I'm not listening to a second of it until it's blasting in my stereo!

If there are "piles of filler tracks" how can you like every album? Just a question!
