I had a thought: might the 20ten CD have DRM? Not that it will stop it from finding its way to the dead internet. But I am thinking Prince thinks it might.

No. That would be a violation of the Redbook draft that makes an audio CD what it is. Sony got into hot water for trying to do that a few years ago. Of course, if Prince were to release data CD-Roms or -Rs, it's fair game. But that isn't the case here.

they are give aways so would that apply?

I'm amazed it hasn't leaked yet. This is unheard of in the internet-era.

It's been well over ten years since I've had to wait until the day of purchase to hear a new Prince album.

actually, I think 3121 and Planet Earth are the only ones that have ever leaked before they were officially available in some capacity.

someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

you are wrong....there have been many more. I had a cassette copy of Lovesexy about a month before it was released if I remember correctly and quite a few in the 90s too. It is weird that no one has uploaded it anywhere but should change in less than 24 hrs.

3121 is the only one I listened to leaked coz I was so pissed off that it wasn't available where I live the same time as the rest of the world. it went on sale here about two weeks later (with radio specials etc.) and I went out and bought it anyway.

I was sent a copy of TRC from a member of NPGMC coz I couldn't afford memebership and it wasn't on sale here (I bought a copy the next time I was o/s) and i was alsos ent a copy of LF since I can't afford to buy it online (never joined the site) and haven't yet been to the States since...

but people have been saying that for a week now. "tonight", "within the next few hours",

"within the next 24 hours".

i don't think anyone is gonna want to burn their fingers uploading this thing with only 3

more days to go. there would be virtually no point in that anyway.

if it pops up, hey, i'll grab it biggrin but i'm still gonna go and get me a hard copy when it's in

the papers on saturday. glad it's getting a physical release since the soundquality is just

better that way.

indeed. one thing i do like a lot about this release is that we haven't heard

a single song in it's entirety. no singles, no leaked tracks, no radio debuts.

it'll be interesting to listen to a new prince album and not know any tracks

for a change. i find it always stops the flow of a new album if track four or

five is a single that's been out there for a month or so.

it's been a long time, in fact, i think it may be the first time i've not known

any of an album's tracks before it was released.

except "news" and "xpectation" but those were instrumental low key discs,

so a bit different.

it's going to be an interesting haul up to the saturday.

at the very least it will make the wait for the new radiohead (later this year) and beck (when?)

albums more easy. but i'm hoping it will be much more than just that. fingers crossed.

Not much point in leaking it now. Lossless CD rips in 48 hours for those outside Euroland.

Pop down to the shops on Saturday morning and hear it on CD - wow the 90s ARE back!

Prince 20Ten: Comedian Lenny Henry raves about new album after sneak preview

'Prince 20Ten: Comedian Lenny Henry raves about new album after sneak preview'
By Lenny Henry

I'll be listening to my Prince albums until the day I die.

He's a little guy but a musical giant so I am honoured to have been asked to review his new album, song by song:

1: COMPASSION This is vintage Let's Go Crazy-style Prince. It's got that mad off-beat snare drum and that two-time electro handclap.

2: BEGINNING ENDLESSLY A midtempo funk jam where Prince asks: "Why should you be satisfied with just Heaven and Earth?"

3: FUTURE SOUL SONG A ballad in which Prince dreams about piloting a jet with the power of his brain. Very laid-back with a nice "Oooo-eeooo, sha-la-la" hook. Dreamlike, ethereal, sexy.

4: STICKY LIKE GLUE This is where the album takes off for me. Once again, when the end is in sight, Prince unleashes the funk - tight-as-agnat's-chuff rhythm guitar switches to a one-string lead line and a gospel call and response. As my Uncle Clifton used to say: "Choon!"

5: ACT OF GOD Prince sings about fat bankers and Saddam Hussein (I suppose finding a rhyme for Bin Laden is trickier).

6: LAVAUX A funky, familiar tune where he dreams about Lavaux, an idyllic spot on Lake Geneva which has vineyards, and Portugal which has - Ronaldo. Very groovy. Look forward to the follow-up about Butlins Minehead.

7: WALK IN THE SAND On any other album this would be considered a stand-out. It's got a lovely light, midtempo rhythm plus melodic hooks that any artist would die for. It's just so unfortunate that it comes before...

8: SEA OF EVERYTHING The ballad of the album. The falsetto voice here is so malleable, this is Prince the honorary Delfonic, the apprentice Chi-Lite, the 21st-century Smokey Robinson. Prince has always sung well in this register but he seems to have improved with age... damn.

9: EVERYBODY LOVES ME Synth-rock with a squelchy bass hook about two minutes in that makes your bum want to wiggle around. There's a cheeky little piano hook that goes to show there ain't no shame in having a good time.

10: LAYDOWN Lowdown, dirty funk-rock dipped in chicken grease and served up bubblin' hot. This is the guitar rock god and he's takin' no prisoners. Go on, dip yer bread.

I really enjoyed this album and, as usual, all thoughts of his past triumphs slipped from my mind as I got lost in the present - stripped down to my purple pants, peach and black socks and my Ray-Bans. I dare you not to dance.

I live in the U.S...Yes it sucks about the "lack of release" but it's not like you can't hear this.

1) I am having a fellow fan send a copy to me

2) I purchased a 2nd copy off EBAY for $7

3) I will download on Saturday and buy the retail copy whenever it is released here.

NO BIGGIE! Just strange!
