SoulAlive said: DesireeNevermind said: Her role in GB was utterly useless and a waste of what little acting talent she possessed. I think Jill showed potential in PR, she just needed more training to expand on that potential. In GB, she was wasted and unnecessary and I don't know if maybe she was being poorly directed or if she was just a bad actress. Either way....Prince messed her up. He should have not had her as a love interest and had her remain his loyal crush or she should not have been in the film at all. She was a waitress at First Avenue so if there is no First Ave and no Billy Sparks then why is she with "the kid"? All these unexplained elements in the story line. GB just didn't flow very well. I feel bad for Jill. She has always been one of Prince's most loyal friends/associates yet when it comes to his movies, she always seemed to get the most insignificant roles. In 'Purple Rain',she played a waitress who had a crush on The Kid,but he was interested in another woman (Apollonia). In 'GB',she actually played his girlfriend this time, but he soon became interested in another woman (Aura). Plus, despite her awesome talents as a vocalist, she never even got to perform a song in either movie! In 'GB',she gets one "big moment" to shine: lipsynching the first chorus of "Love Machine",which is soon lip-synched by Aura The original vocals are by Elisa Fiorillo. It always seemed like Jill had to play second fiddle to other female proteges.Hell, even Robin Power gets to perform an orignal song in this film! Yeah Jill was quality material, she had bigger scenes in Purple Rain that didn't make the cut. I thought her most sadly significant role in GB was her dropping her panties to stop a fight. If something like that was done during his 1980-1985 years there would have been some edge to it something that made it work, in this movie it was just 'was that necessary?'

Well, I've seen worse...no really, I have. In all honesty and at the risk of being clowned to within an inch of my life, I kinda get what Princey was trying to say in this movie in his own oddball way...maybe it's a Gemini thing, Why he chose not to work with some professionals who could have put together a professional quality film is beyond me. One gripe I have is his use of females as one dimensional eye candy...it's boring and Ingrid Chavez annoys the crap outta me. She was supposed to be some deep muse but comes off as a dingbat with a head full of cotton candy. And let's not even discuss Robin Power and that silly rapper dude... I loved the performances of New Power Generation, Elephants and Flowers and especially Thieves In The Temple...heck, I even liked Tick, Tick, Bang. And Princey did look hella cute throughout. He could have kept the rest of it though 'cause there wasn't one decent acting job in the entire movie. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I saw it opening night and the audience went from excited to confused to merciless. At one point the words appeared "It's just around the corner" for the Nth time and someone shouted "WE DON'T GET THE CONCEPT!!!" and the whole theater erupted in laughter. My Legacy

I bought the DVD finally for $5 at Big Lots a few months ago and it's still bad. As a matter of fact I think I enjoyed it MORE when I was younger. As a grown adult it's REALLY bad!
Okay, Okay...It's bad, but the music scenes are slamming Damn! Big Lots has it? HOW MUCH $$ ???

I have friends over for movie night several times a year. PLUS, I’d like to add that I am good cook…I make yummy home made Mexican food. Here are a few pics of 2 different Taco Nights and Chicken Flautus Night I cooked up. Everything made with love from scratch! (minus the sour cream) Oooh! Surround sound, Mexican food and Prince I'm there

I think there was waaay too much music for a movie this short (1 hour and 35 minutes if I'm not mistaken) Lame songs/performances like Tick Tick Bang, The Latest Fashion, Melody Cool were completely unnecessary...And the script is so bad that it's even scary... but I like the ending: that annoying, stupid thing called Ingrid Chaves dies! Worst actress ever! and I get a huge hard-on everytime Jill appears on the screen...oh yeah ph yeah mmmm her body alone is worth the price of admission... I'd give the film 1,5 out of 5 stars It was alot of music But at least give it 2 stars for Jill

why try? I don't even want to do an era thread on this one, I have no excitement in doing one, but for the sake of history... the fact that it was supposed to be a PR sequel, and no one from the Revolution nor most of the cast except for Prince & the Time & Jill, and she turned from a demure kitten to a panty dropping...(I respect her to much to say it) the Revolution being replaced by an unknown band, even the SOTT/Lovesexy band would have worked because they were at least known, with no visual excitement. the poor quality of using a studio to represent the real life street scene/night life/urban life, spacy Ingrid, where is Apollonia who you would die 4, the music can't touch Purple Rain, ' I agree with every point, but a thread from you about it would be cool-do it for the org-we need accurate Prince info around here

WELL...
if you look past its obvious man made street corners, obvious over dubs in parts, the movie is quite naive. Prince looks like a babe lol yes but that wasn’t enough to savage the movie. Good performances like Tick tick bang, but most of the time the movie just felt really mellodramatic. He should have collaborated with Martin Scorse or something, someone who’s a professional, the script was bad too.
