So according to you if others are playing on this track they can't be friends of Prince?

Interesting

Sounds good(It sound like a Lotusflower rendition), but I've heard the original and the chemistry of friends and collaboration is missing:Eric Leeds, Wendy, Sheila E, Lisa, Atlanta and a few others...

For a live 2009 performance I like it...

But it's missing the people & key elements of what made it a really quirky energetic masterpiece

I'd prefer a double release, go ahead a release a 2009 'live' of this and a remastered(but unaltered) 1986 version

It's a bit sad that the people who helped create this won't benefit or take part in the performance...but ya never know, maybe the will some day

Not as good as the original boot, but this is still very very very nice!!!!

I'm glad Prince decided to revisit this song and give it a 2009 spin.

I am confused. Has there been a new round of cease and desist? When? Against who?

This version of the song made me realize I had one of the original lyrics totally wrong. I always thought he was singing, "...a picture of a woman with a dick in her hand." That's how I've sung that line for years.

I would too. I liked it but I dig the original more. Even if I hated it, I'm glad that Prince is acknowledging the song's existance by playing it on stage and now releasing it via the Monteaux website. Good for Prince. thumbs up!

Living in the past, I'm living in 2009,
your attitude needs adjustment, don't read crap into my post that isn't there

I'm not saying those people should have been on this recording, and that was just a list of the people who did create that piece with Prince
If I didn't add those peoples names you probably would not have said a damn thing

All the fuck I said was you don't get the chemistry that you hear on the original.

This whole inverse snobbery thing about people who are members of LF is silly anyway. The general consensus among current members seems to be that so far the site is disappointing in terms of content against membership fee. We also all agree the T-shirt thing is taking far too long. But still, those who have joined decided they could (and wanted to) afford it. Although carrots were dangled no concrete promises were made so we all knew what we were signing up for. You do it in the hope that something superb will be available at some point but if not then so be it.

The idea that "fanatics" sit around thinking of ways to defend the site or "justify" why it does not have content or news before other sites or sources is ridiculous. It really is not that important to devote that sort of energy to. Similarly if new exclusive music becomes available I'm certainly not going to go "Nyah Nyah nyer Nyah Nyah!" at those who did not join for whatever reason. confused

Wow, that sums up how I feel perfectly.

Oh please, the Dream Factory boot was sourced from a cassette tape, was remastered by a guy who knows his skills, and sounds absolutely great.

I can't believe I am going to say this but I really don't like it. neutral

On one hand I really appreciate the sentiment and think it's sweet of prince to put this out there knowing that there are purple geeks like me that have hoped this song (and many other unreleased gems) would one day be released.

On the other hand the rerecording of this is light years away from the original (obv just my opinion) and the moment I finished listening my brain was blah... it's just so anticlimactic. Ya know what, it actually made me sad (doesn't take much lately, lol). There was absolutely NO magic in this version- the previous had such a vivid life of it's own and always gave me that feeling you get when you fall in love with a song for the first time. That intangible something that made me get so involved in the prince world waaaay back when I first heard the original. Maybe it's unfair of me to make comparisons since part of the charm of the original may be linked to it being unreleased and rare and the mystery around it. But this IS a remake so I think comparisons are inevitable.

It's not like the icepick in the ear of 1999 the new master ill but to me it falls into the same category of things that should never be tinkered with or rerecorded. BUT, like I said, I think he probably wanted to give us this because there has been such a buzz about it recently on the org- at least there's comfort in knowing he's paying attention!

And wouldn't it be awesome if on the lotusflow3r site he put the original up for download.. wouldn't it? Wouldn't it Prince??? biggrin

i get it why he put it there-so EVERYONE can hear it

but surely-they could also have added it to Lotus too-but to not even mention this is obviously a definate signal-there are so few members it's not worth doing anything.....

great-what the fuck about us that joined then

i think-at this stage SURELY we deserve to be told either way eek

Oh please, are you going to completely ignore the bit where I said, "better than the boots I have"?

Not everybody has every single boot ever released. If there's a decent quality version, I'm missing it. Got a couple of Dream Factory boots but nothing with a crystal clear Large Room With No Light.

If you have a lovely clear version, then good for you, but don't assume everyone else has. My boots of this song sound horrible.

There isn't any original one. Since this was unreleased and we have only heard it before because some one STOLE it from prince. What we heard maybe version 7 for all we know. Some of u act as if the music belongs to u when it prince's creation and he has the freedom to make a million different versions of it and release none of them if he so desires.

U act like a bunch of ungrateful children. Be happy u have 2 versions. And prince is free to release music where and how he wants. He never said every sound and message from him would be funneled thru the website. Like I said every move Prince makes will be critized no matter what.
