Earlier that day Morris met with Billy to discuss The Kid's future.

Billy: "Look man I'm gonna fire the kid tonight like you said I should but I aint down with jacking him for his share of the club. Me and his momma was tight back in the day and I can't just do her son like that."

Morris: "Look Billy that club is all we got. Yeah his momma loaned you the money for the club but she left you for Francis L remember? She's a Bitch and you know what that makes her son! Besides, you won't have to worry about giving up shares of the club to a dead man."

Billy: "WHATCHU TALKIN BOUT WILLIS!!!"

In my opinion, here's what would make PR better:

1) The rushing into a relationship between Prince & Apollonia it's just weird.

2) Am I the only one who was going WTF when the police had a chalk drawing of Prince's father's body despite the fact that he was still alive after he shot himself.

3) Needed a better director.

4) Better editing job- There were some very obivious editing flaws in this move that you can that the movie was never quite finished

5) As I said before, I am the only one who thought it was fucked up that Prince dedicated the song Purple Rain to his mentally unstabled, abusive father?

6) Get rid of the theme of slapping people.
There's more I could say but I rather here it from someone else.

The Kid gets ousted from the Revolution. Billy fires him all together since he's without a band. Morris snags Appollonia and JJ. In a fit of rage , revenge and pent up sexual frustration he plans to bomb the hell out of First Avenue.

Get rid of The Kid's father surviving. That whole "happy ending" crap. Why was Morris Day cheering he lost his job?

What they should have done is have Jerome cheering and then Morris Day nudge him like "hey dude, what are you doing, we lost out jobs".

also..

Electric Intercourse on the soundtrack bonus track & maybe over the credits towards the end.

also..

Jill Jones being naked after she gave him the tape. Just for no reason open her shirt cool

Why do you say the Time lost their jobs? They weren't going anywhere, there were other bands outside of the Revolution & the Time. Apollonia 6 weren't confirmed yet

Should have kept the original script.

I remember reading the ORIGINAL script of Purple Rain it was alot darker, but also better then the final one. However, I didn't like the "rape scene", that was a little too extreme. confused

Rape Scene? Never heard about that. Who? and Why?

Say what???? I think the director ruled, making a movie out of those ideas and with that cast and that low budget would have been DIFFICULT. He was great with Prince (SOTT movie (he ghost directed, the Partyman video).

What would Purple Rain be without slaps? Eminem wouldn't have remade it. They could have titled it "Purple Slaps".

What are the editing flaws you see? Geographical errors?

Why do you all want "The Kid's" mother to be black? Most people don't even know Prince is black, and with his relaxed wavy hair and pale skin, he does look like a mix, so in cinematic reality, having him have mixed parents is keeping it real.

Does it somehow bother u that people here want Prince's mother to be black? MOST people DO know that Prince is black simply because he is. It has been documented many times over the years that BOTH of Prince's parents were indeed black. So that is NOT out of the question that people here would want Prince's mother to be black in the film. Now what you CHOOSE to personally believe is another matter entirely. Another star in the film, Morris Day, ALSO fits your justification as to why Prince is "mixed". Morris also has "relaxed wavy hair and pale skin", PLUS freckels. But what I find interesting is that no one has EVER claimed that Morris is "mixed". I personally know Morris and Morris is NATURALLY "paler" to use your word, than Prince is. I have relatives who's complexion is MUCH more lighter than Prince's and their black. I have cousins who are full brothers and sisters to each other and some are dark skinned and others are light skinned. That's hardly uncommon among black people. I also personally know Andre Cymone who in person looks a LOT like Prince naturally. Like they themselves could be brothers. Like Morris, no one has EVER claimed that Andre is "mixed". Without the cake makeup that P has always used, P and Andre has the same complexion but u never hear folks "wanting" Cymone to be "mixed".

Well, at the time of Purple Rain, Prince HIMSELF claimed a mixed race. He said his mom was White and Italian. Hence the reason his "on screen" mother was obviously Italian.
Rick James had a little beef with Prince and said "He doesnt even want to be black". So, I dont think its anyone on here having a problem with Prince's mom being black... It was PRINCE that obviously had an issue with it.

Yeah it bothers me, because Prince wanted the Kid to have mixed parents to reflect the character and the image he was fictionally creating. It's a movie called "Purple Rain" about a character called "The Kid", and in concert it's a stage act called "Prince". He even changes his voice to be more "Prince" when he does this act. I'm sure you've heard his natural voice on bootlegs. With the Minn accent?

The reality, the man, Prince Nelson is not the point of any of this, as Prince himself has pointed out many many times in interviews, attitude, intentional misinformation (called fiction), and lyrics.

Now with his "Musicology" concept, Prince was trying to be more authentic to natural black heritage down to keeping his hair natural in the promo pics/tourbook, and that is a (cool) artistic choice (to be more real or to be more fictional). I mean complaining that the mom in Purple Rain is not black is like complaining that Darth Vader should have been unmasked as black in Star Wars because James Earl Jones (his voice) is. Prince Nelson was(and still is) constructing a fictional marketed product not his real life biography!

Yeah, trust me, I KNOW all of that. I KNOW P has said those things early in his career to come across as "something else". I myself posted on the Teena/Rick/P thread an exact quote that Rick made regarding his opinion on P not wanting to be black. When I attended the PR premier, as soon as the actress playing P's mother in the film first appeared on the screen, I KNEW why she was the race that she was. Just to keep up with the lie P himself had put out. I remember thinking about P's real mother and perhaps how she felt when she saw the film.

funny! the idea of PR as a horror movie could work, oddly! smile
i'd prefer Vanity in the movie instead of Apples, but whatever. neutral

Okay, so i would:

Add a scene with Electric Intercourse in it.

Show scene of the Kid punching Jellybean in the mouth & all deleted scenes (morris & appolonia, the kid & his mom, etc.)

Show more of the reason on why Jill is in love with the Kid

Also, if the rape scene was added, i don't think PR would have gotten an "R" rating. the overall mood would've been much darker. they could've just showed close-ups of facial expressions or something. confused
How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

I mean complaining that the mom in Purple Rain is not black is like complaining that Darth Vader should have been unmasked as black in Star Wars because James Earl Jones (his voice) is.

Gotta admit that I like the Darth Vader reference. wink Although EVERYBODY knows that Darth was a brutha! Or in Lucus's mind, he saw Darth as a brutha. Not just the voice and besides the fact that Darth's costume is literally black but Darth's stroll was just like a brutha's. I know it wasn't a brutha playing Darth but he sure walked like one. Darth had that pimp cape and shit....THAT'S why Darth was so cool. Whenever Darth came on the screen, ALL eyes were on him. George knew what time it was! razz cool biggrin
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."
