OK I paid for the website because I really wanted a decent copy of crimson and clover and of course the rest of mplsound and lotusflower. Not only did it take about 20 mins to work out how to join and log in, it took the same time to work out how to hear the music! The only thing that was quick was the payment system! However once I logged into this slow and comebersome and boring website and worked out how to do the basic navigation, Crimson and Clover wasnt there! I was stupid enough to join up without really thinking about what songs would be available, and why should I as C&C was promoted so much, I only assumed it would be there just like all the other songs are. In addition, since joining a month ago there have been no updates, no new material, no vault material, and its fuckin slow as hell. Ive got to give it to you Prince, you screwed me well and good! I also feel like one of the few dickheads stupid enough to buy the subscription too - most file sharers had the material free within a few hours anyway. My recommendation for anyone thinking of buying is - IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Thanks Prince you fucking wanker.

How do you figure?

Logic. Why wouldn't Prince want to set up another deal with a company that had been good to him? Answer: because they don't want to.

-----
They don't want to because it is not to their advantage to have an artist for one CD. They are not able to build any sort of catalogue and the artist (Prince) has no loyalty to the label. In addtion, CD sales are so bad right now labels want to retain the master which, Prince is not willing to do.

Do not know if he gets a million people to sign up this go around but he might if he tours. You guys keep forgeting he sells millions of tickets and may have already received a six figure check from Target.

He knows how to play this game and yes it is as much about money as it is about music.

I'll agree that he knows how to play the game HOWEVER, it is more so about money than it is the music and it's been that way for quite some time!

Hate to tell you but it's been about the music AND getting paid for it-and I have no problem with that at all...I wouldn't be here if he all he wanted was $$ and I'm surprised you are still a fan(if you are).
If he just wanted to focus on the money, all he would have to do is go to Warner and let them re-master the 1999 and Purple Rain albums, promote them, and then sell 2-3 million more copies to the bandwagon fans-without lifting a finger. Instead he's been taking chances, going around the outdated music industry, and giving away cd's left and right. AND making great music in the process.
I know this is an old argument, but it needs to be set straight. If what you say is true: if you think he only cares about money- or mostly about money, why the hell are you still a fan?

I have absolutely no idea what the membership figures of his past online subscription websites were - What was the number of pre-orders at which they would press and send out CB? 100,000 and that took, forever.

There's not a single shred of evidence that they made more than 20,000 copies of CB. Vicki from Sevenmag had a detailed post about this in an old PPML.

I hope they didn't, because I got that bitch in the original hockey puck case and it might be worth something!

eek How many times do you guys need to get shafted to get it? I am a "wait and see" kind of shopper, esp when it comes to Prince's websites. I will very likely sign up for it when he goes on tour, or offers unreleased albums like ONA(studio) was, but not until then. Sorry it didn't work out for you. It may still be worth it I hope.

Evidence?

Ummm....

That same year, Pollstar named Prince the top concert draw among musicians in USA. Grossing an estimated $87.4 million, Prince's Musicology Tour was the most profitable tour in the music industry for 2004. The artist played an impressive run of 96 concerts; the average ticket price for a show was US$61.

Prince announced that he would play 21 concerts in London over the summer of 2007. The "Earth Tour" included 21 nights at the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena. Tickets for the O2 Arena were priced at £31.21 (including a free copy of Prince's latest album), in order to make the concerts "affordable for everybody". The residency at the O2 Arena was increased to 15 nights after all 140,000 tickets for the original seven sold out in just 20 minutes.

Kind of. I think most of us here are fans of the music but also have had to separate the person from the music a long time ago. I have a history of getting shafted, but have been amazed many many times. It's a roller coaster for sure- which is Prince by definition -and I've enjoyed the ride(no pun intended) to this day.

Two, counting me. I like the new records though.

And, yes, Bart sucks big time - at least if it's the same guy I remember sucking equally in P&R and telling him so - but there's someone like that on every message board I go to; a person who seems to ENJOY being adversarial for the sheer sake of it and thrives on negative attention and arguments.

If I remember correctly, he's one of those angry Republicans who have nothing real to offer except "NO", "YOU'RE WRONG" and "YOU"RE AN IDIOT" who gets all his information from FOX, Rush and Boortz. Take it easy on him though. He has a lot to be angry about, and if and when Hannity gets around to praising Prince for some reason, Bart will proclaim the new stuff as golden.

Sorry for the P&R de-rail.

Maybe, but I know when a good deal is being offered and not. The Opus deal, for example, is bait for absolutist fans only. I only want the music (and am poor right now)...and will likely find it someday another way much cheaper. Wait and see.

in 2007 I saw him in Minneapolis and it really felt, for me, like the resentments of the past were falling away. Then he pulled that websherriff shit and it pissed me off all over again. I have many other musical artists that satisfy the hell out of me and most of my connection to Prince was already set before he started battling his fans.

Thank God for NPGMC because I got to live the fanhood I never did when I was young. That club was worth every penny. If the same things were offered through Lotus, I would have no desire. I have no interest in validating someone so fake.

Wow. Just kidding. I feel the same way about Elixer. It shouldn't have been attached to this album, but he can't find outlets for his protoges(sp?) anymore. Hmmm.

i have been financially screwed many times over the years by the P. Normally when you pay a lot for something you usually get some quality or something that others who do not pay get. BUT FUCK IT I DONT EVEN HAVE THE TSHIRT YET.

yes I am the stupid one, i hold my hand up and just want to warn others to not waste their time and money on this.
