Prince's revamped Web domain, appropriately Lotusflow3r.com, gives his loyal followers exclusive access to an array of film footage and music from the Purple One's "Vault"

Not "will give" but "gives". It totally sounds like you get that as soon as you sign up.

But you don't and obviously addtional content is forthcoming.

Lotusflow3r.com touts the highest-quality MP3s around at 320 kilobytes per second -- iTunes' typical average kbps is 192.

Not a fair comparison at all. Firstly, iTunes tracks are encoded differently (AAC), with "protected" DRM tracks encoded at 128 kbps (128 kbps AAC is about equal to 224 kbps MP3 in terms of sound quality, just smaller file sizes), and now nearly all of the iTunes library is in unprotected AAC files encoded at 256 kbps, which is considerably better than 320 kbps MP3s.

This is an ignorant comparison.

In other words, don't complain simply for the sake of hearing your own voice. The man never has anything positive to share!!

Once again he is not on P's level not knocking any of those groups. I love all of them but P is still doing big things in the industry.

I see what you're saying, but d'ya ever stop to think that if Prince didn't put out (or influence) these ridiculous press releases full of misinformation and hyperbole, Bart might not have anything to say?

And yet, P still does it.

And there are still people who take them as gospel.

I hear ya. However, i'm glad Bart keeps track of all the various "inconsistencies" over the years. I mean, changing your mind is on thing, but attempting to flat out rewrite the past? THAT shit needs to be put on check.
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I think many of us are upset that there is not enough content to begin with....to warrant 77 dollars upfront. It's not the will be forthcoming material. It's the what's on there now. You say we don't get it, yet you obvoiusly don't understand the argument you are defending.

Yes we all figure content is coming. From the lack of things, that is pretty obvious. What and when are two big issues. Eventually and Exclusive content are not enough...not when the dang thing opened up just shy of a month ago.

You know why the website opened up one week early? Because Prince was trying to beat the shipment of the CD’s to Target. He pretty much guaranteed that there would not be a leak and that hardcore fans would pony up the 77 to get to the music before the gen public by promising exclusive content in the first week that would not be available after. Of course he didn’t personally promise anything, but led the media (who reported on the website) to believe so.

Good article however I think the website leaves alot to be desired.
I paid the $77 ($144 Australian) and after I figured out how to get in - with the help of fellow orgers - I was really dissapointed.
That site should have been flooded with so called unreleased and rare material from day one.
A month in and nothing has changed and I hardly visit it now.
I just don't know why Prince can't have a simple, easy to navigate site like other bands and the new "opus" site.

[Edited 4/21/09 7:58am]

I think P couldn't even be bothered updating anything because the turnout has been so bad.

?

Except that doesn't make any sense because they realize if there isn't a reason to stay subscribed then they won't get renewals next year.

I am not being negative here about Prince or the Lotusflow3r site, but, with due respect, if you are going to write an article about a musicians new web site, it does pay to actually visit it eek
I see no indication that the writer even logged on let alone explored the site in any depth.

I liked the article's focus on his move outside of record labels. I don't think the mainstream really understands what he's been working towards since his fallout with WB. The path he's charting today will no doubt change how some of the younger generation sees their possibilities in the music industry as well.
