Mr. Goodnite did and still does it for me.

Sleep around was a song I played near non stop every night on my way to work to brighten up the situation of leaving my daughter at tea time.

Mine was actually 'Planet Earth' [the song]. It blew me away, the piano, the lyrics, the great guitar solo and the live feel.

The song "My Name Is Prince" blew me off my feet when I was transitioning from Hip Hop 2 REAL music ... LoL ...

Purple Rain LIVE at the Super Bowl knocked me off my feet becuz I was part of the stage crew, seein' him "in the moment" always knocks me off my feet ...
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

dag, a lot of love for F.U.N.K. it seems, looks like i'ma have to cop that. is it on Itunes? and was PFunk only available online?

i initially mentioned The Dance but i admit i bought 3121 because of Black Sweat. TRC (whole album) caught me off guard too in a good way.

I Will & Train, The latter especially. It's a crime that a lot of Prince fans haven't heard this absolute gem.

Ur Gonna C Me is a close one too, If there was any song that displayed Prince's superior song writing skills, then Ur Gonna C Me is the one.

train was released on mavis staples album time waits for no one in 1989
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The 1 U Wanna C is nothing genius, but it's a really good pop song. IMO it was his potentially biggest single since Cream.

I already answered... but let me answer again.

There have been only 7 songs that have blown me off my feet the very first time I heard them. Here they are, in the order in which I heard them.

1. When Doves Cry. I had never heard anything like it before. Automatically captivated me and made me a fan for life!

2. Let's Go Crazy. The first rock song I ever heard from an artist who's African-American like me. Bye-bye John Cougar Mellancamp. lol... Prince is my new hero! LOL

3. How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore. Heard this song in college after trying to back through some old Prince. BLEW ME AWAY! Didn't know he could play the blues. AMAZING song. Alecia Keyes' version can not touch this classic!

4. Alexa de Paris. I used to play Under the Cherry Moon on VHS over and over just to see this part of the movie and hear this song. I couldn't find the song, and didn't know the name until one day, I flipped over my 12 inch Kiss on vinyl about a YEAR after I had it! LOL... OMG... here it is!!!! Classic song. Classic segment to Under the Cherry Moon.

5. Sexy MF. Heard this song at 12:45 a.m. while driving home from work. By the time I turned into my the drive way, my hands were in pain from hitting my steering week so much along with the ... 'Dunh Dunh Dunh... You Sexy MotherFuckaahhhh! LOL (Of course, it was edited for radio!) lol

6. Come. AMAZING! The fact that this song never got any airplay made it even better because it feels like it's MINE! My little glam-ghetto jam! His passion in the song, and the rythym are just phenomenal!

7. PFunk. Song came from out of nowhere! I was like... what the heck! The man can roll out of the wrong side of bed, and make a jam!

I have songs that grew on me that I like better than these cuts... but these are the only cuts that blew me away at first listen.

So the answer to your question... once again... is PFUNK!!!

(Sorry for being so long-winded!) lol

I enjoyed some things on every album since then (Dear Mr. Man, Te Amo Corazon, The Dance, 3121, Planet Earth, Somewhere Here On Earth). But the question here was: 'Which was the last new P song that knocked you off you feet when you heard it for the 1st time?' And to that question, the answer for me has to be TRC.
One main problem is that my expectations are high, since Prince has done some amazing things in his career. When TRC came out, I was at a point where I didn´t expect Prince to surprise me with a new album. But he did!

funkyhead said Look at it this way - you have a very exciting journey through Prince's music ahead of you.

In a way I'm envious of you - that excitement of hearing a new album for the first time can never be recaptured - and you have all that ahead of you.

wave welcome to the purple party people

go buy everything prince has done and listen to it all, doesnt matter what order. dont get too hung up on when happend what said who did etc etc

just listen to the lyrics listen to the sounds - you're in for a musical adventure some lows, some scary bits, some euphoric highs, some humour and some serious thought provoking parts but best of all pure unadulterated funk.

happy adventuring!!

THX! biggrin Lookin back I could've posted a few songs but my mind was clouded cause I had jus finished watchin UTCM & The purple rain, lovesexy and musicology tours razz .....so here goes...

PFunk (hot hot hot!)

That's the thing about the radio that drives U crazy..."Musicology," should be in the program directors line-ups...along with "Kiss," and the other popular songs.

"Musicology," hits that music marker, that...keep it on repeat, makes U wanna go to the top of Mount Rushmore and scream..."What! is Going On Here!" cool
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
