Is there any album I should'nt get?

I was looking at P's discography, and I realize there are quite a few that I don't have, but I have heard some people say that a few of the albums he made during his disputes with Warner Bros are not that great, and were done just so he could finish up his obligations to them, and get out of his contract. So are there any that I could live without?

I could live without come, but Solo is still an intressting track.

None that you shouldn't buy but I was never a big fan of G Bridge although it's worth buying for Still Would Stand All Time, I reckon

Your crazy! "Come", "Letitgo", "Dark", "Papa" and "Solo" are great tracks. That CD is well worth it. I would probably say....Graffiti Bridge, even then "Joy in Repition", and "Thieves" make it worth the buy. Any Prince is worth it. But if you can't commit to buying then just download! OOOPS. Did I say that?! wink

"come" is a great album. one of my favorites.

i would avoid "1999: the new master" at all costs.

and if you're going to get a greatest hits package, get "ultimate prince" or "the hits/the b-sides". don't bother with that "very best of prince" crap.

I get most of those (Come is awesome), but NPS? While it is not as strong as his albums before it, songs like "The One", "Madsex", "Come On", and "Wasted Kisses" keep afloat. I also enjoy "Until Your in My Arms Again".

Good choice! I can say that after listening to ONA I have had a hard time going back to listening to the studio albums.

I waited a long time buying this because I thought it was a little too pricey for me, but I regret now not buying it sooner. And now, everytime I find a Prince album that I don't have in my collection, I don't hesitate buying it.

What worth is money in the long run? Nothing but regrets of how you could and should have spend it...!

You will not be dissappointed with ONA biggrin

There's no such thing as an "album you shouldn't get" imo.

Of course you won't love every single album, but taste is very
subjective. So don't be put off an album by other's negative
opinions of it, have a listen to it yourself and make up your
own mind. There's usually at least a few good tracks on the
albums that you're not particularly fond of that make them
worth having. Plus, some albums grow on you, so even if
you don't like it at first, you may love it later.

You have to make that decision.
Some of the albums that are regularly bashed like NewPower Soul, I love.
It's in my Top Ten. There's none I would voluntarily live without even the tepid
Planet Earth.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Every last one of his albums has something great on them. It just seems natural to me that you would want to hear them all.

You can't really ask someone else. It's so subjective. I say get them all. I like something off of all of them. I appreciated hearing the growth from album to album.
If you're gonna be a fam... own it!

Buy them all and make your own judgments.

You know what?
Sign O The Times is an album I can't listen to all the way through; Hot Thing, Adore, It, Forever In My Life and Slow Love bore me to tears.
New Power Soul however I love pretty much all the way through, bar 'eye Like Funky Music'.
I love Emancipation and NEWS all the way through, but by loving those two albums, I seemingly go against just what Prince fans are meant to love/hate. That said, I still consider myself a hardcore Prince fan nonetheless. Also, for me Planet Earth is 45ish minutes of great music - it's not a guilty pleasure, it's a great pleasure!

We all love different things and we all love different music. Prince fans are blessed in so far that we've got so much to listen to and so much musical diversity to love/disregard within one man's work.

If you enjoy Prince's work then legitimately buy his albums and make your own mind up - I genuinely believe that true fans will enjoy all of his work, even if they don't necessarily love it! For anybody to say that they 'hate' any kind of music seems ridiculous to me. You can surely either love music or feel indifferent to it. Why would you actually 'hate' music?

You might just see that the general view of the Org ain't necessarily your own view. That's what I've felt over the years, but it doesn't matter.

I am sorry, I dont know the answer to that question, some albums i listen to, some i listen to more and some i just have, some sort of weird habit i got of collecting, but at least it was not coins
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

i like disc 3 of emancipation and parts of disc 1, and i like "joint 2 joint" from disc 2. i don't think it's an essential album, but it's certainly not one to avoid...especially since you can usually find it in the boo-boo bin at the dollar store!
