Stand your ground Prince...Much Love. heart
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

You have got to laugh. It is more than likely absolutely legal, but as an example of how much of a hypocrite Prince is...

We pay money for concert tickets and watch a show that is littered with cover versions of other people songs, take a look at most of his set lists, most recently London, throughout the main shows and aftershows he played cover versions and he took money from people for them to witness that.

He’ll probably start suing people for listen to his music next! Watch out people...

Now before anyone jumps on me for talking crap, I know that covering a song live is different from releasing it, but it is just an example and in MY VIEW he is still making money from the shows, just makes me laugh about how silly he is becoming.

Mid life crisis anyone?

Look at the bold sentence....

my point to me saying that....

Radiohead thought the same EXACT thing when Prince tried to lay claim to "Creep" because he did the cover.....

I dont think someone learned his lesson about doing covers IMHO. He can do covers without a second thought, but people do covers of HIS songs and the little guy throws a fit

As I said here we go again all nod

(I am nto arguing with anyone Im actually agreeing with Dance that he IS anal as all get all)

I don't know if anyone takes notice of advertisements that used to support movies...However, I went to see, "The Incredible Hulk," yesterday...Which I really liked...and Liv Tyler is adorable in the movie...There is a part, where she say's, "Can I take my lip gloss? They won't track that will they?" He says, "Yes," She, grabs the lipstick off of the bed and cups it into her hand, and I'm just waitin' to see...and sure enough, a few frames later, they show a Strawberry flavored, Bonne Bell Lip Gloss whose, head office is in Lakewood, Ohio. Then I read the back of my lipgloss, which is the brand I carry faithfully, and notice, that there is a new distribution office listed, in Sarpsborg, Norway....Which is reletively new print on the Lip Smacker, itself. I thought that was interesting, and somehow fit in here. cool

GO GET THEM PRINCE. I AM BEHIND YOU.

THEY HAVE THOUGHT THAT THEY SELL IT FOR FREE AND MAKE MONEY ON CONCERTS AND LIVE
PERFORMANCES. SO THEY DID NOT HAVE TO PAY THE FEE.

IT'S ILLEGAL WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO.

KEEP GOING PRINCE AND SEW ALL THE MOTHERF*CKERS

I'll never understand why his fans defend him so vigorously. Do you think you're going to get into his inner circle and become friends with Prince?

He's absolutely right about the licensing fee. That fee needs to be paid regardless of whether a profit was made on the album. So, his concern should be with getting the money. His insistance that no one ever record covers and that the albums be destroyed wreaks of narcisissim and delusion. At this point, I'm not sure he even wants us listening to existing copies of his studio albums anymore.

Someone asked why the Norwegian company went ahead with the project "when they were told not to." Because, they like the music and they wanted to do it. And, because it was perfectly legal to record covers (again, acknowledging that they need to pay the fee). They wanted to share their love for the music with other fans despite Prince's surly attitude about the whole thing.

Someone else asked why do a tribute ablum to someone who doesn't want to be the subject of a tribute. It's a tribute to his music, a tribute to the collective experience of being a fan. A tribute by fans for mainly fans, not Prince himself. And, again, it's legal if all fees are paid.

Wait a minute. I see lots of people here saying that it's his music, so he should get paid the licensing fees/royalties/whatever, which is true. But Prince isn't suing for the money - he's suing to have the CD's destroyed. It's just another example of him being hellbent on controlling his music and his image. For a man who's made a career out of covering and imitating James, Sly, Stevie, Jimi, and other artists, surely you'd think he'd understand the concept of others showing respect and tribute to him. Sue for the proper payment if you must, but let the artists work remain in circulation.

i asked the question as to what reasons he listed in the lawsuit and I have a feeling that question will never be answered.

For Prince to want the cds destroyed....why? yes we can guess its control issues but if everything the musicians did were legal then what grounds does he have? just curious as hell in the content of the suite.

Its just simple - if Prince owns the rights of his songs, anybody who wants 2 use them 4 whatever reason, has 2 pay a fee. If someone makes 5000 copies he pays 4 the rights 2 make 5000 copies and at a performance he would pay 4 the perfomance of a song. If they put it out as a free download, guess how many copies r that than. And it's not their song. Beside that they use it 2 promote themselves too.
I think it's not about doing covers. If Prince covers a song the artist who wrote the song gets a fee.
As I understand, the problem is, that they covered his songs, but didn't pay 4 the duplication...
Just because there's something everybody loves, not everybody has the right 2 take it.

I gotta say this is just another mess in Purple World and frankly I'm getting sick of it. I'm with wonder505 in that I still don't know what Prince is suing these people for and what is the truth in the whole situation but from the surface, it appears that Prince and his team are once again barking up the wrong tree. I don't know about you but I'm sick of hearing about Prince fighting this one and Prince fighting that one. It's taking away from the reason why we're here in the first place. Top it off, it seems that he fights against the wrong people. I would understand if he sued someone like Alex Hahn for that Possessed book for defamation of character or something but he's suing groups and people who actually want to help promote the man and his music. This whole "control" thing is getting out of control. It's going to kill everything he's ever worked for if he doesn't get a handle on this and I don't want to see that. I'm just tired of all of this shit.

could it be that he hated some of the tracks? I listened to the samples. some are really good and some are.....well...let's say completely stripped of all the funk and soul that made the song great.

but i guess if its done out of love he should be honored...i guess, just thinking out loud trying to make sense of this madness. smile

i agree 100%. i was just talking to someone about this.

It's been 30 years and this should be a time of celebration and having fun. but its been nothing but news stories about copyright infringements, lawsuits. Prince has not done any interviews, when was the last time we even heard the man speak. Things are just not the same, no official website, no nothing. It's very frustrating and even with me, one of his biggest defenders, i'm becoming weary.

then again, maybe i'm spending too much time on the Org. smile

people who are still hung up on the whole "they're wrong for not paying licensing fees!!!" argument need to scroll up and read christerfalck's response to all this mess. he's the one behind this compilation, and he has explained to us, directly on this forum, that he has gone through all of the proper channels to have this compilation released. if you're going to argue the legalities from this point forward, you're going to have to start by referencing his response, or else your argument is going to mean nothing. understand?

let's keep up, people. chop chop! biggrin
