Listened to it a few times now and I like it. Yeah, it's not groundbreaking, but it was a decent performance and those lyrics really do sound a little rude. The song and performance had an Elvis vibe to me, almost Jailhouse Rock-esque.

And if it's from a new album, well I wouldn't use it as a measure of what we're going to be getting. When I first heard The Work, I had no hope whatsoever for The Rainbow Children.

was it me or when he began 2 sing his voice sounded hoarse?
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I'm sorry, I can't grow old with Prince anymore. "OLD" being the operative word. I will be 40 soon, and I still like to see and hear interesting things. Something about that performance and song seemed incredibly "old" and uninspired IMO zzz. It was another solid performance from Prince that wasn't any fun to watch. He doesn't have to act like he's 20 and start jumping off speakers again, but damn could he stop making and playing music like all of your fans are ready for retirement. He plays great, he sounds great, looks great, and I will always be a fan, but Prince has become a safe oldies act to me. sad

It's a funky James Brown-style workout in the vein of "The Work". It will make you shake your butt. I had fun watching him perform it - and dance to it.

Great to hear something new - but P stopped trying to re-invent the wheel a long time ago. He's just dishing out the funk.

You have to be suspicious of someone's negative review when they write almost word for word the exact same review on Housequake. Talk about lack of creativity.
Now that's sad lspear76 and mrgoodnight. lol

It's my review so why would I change it depending on which Prince site I post it on? I'm not some politician going town to town changing my story...

So u are bouncing from site to site spreading your hate lol? U complain and complain yet u can't wait to see prince and can't wait to post about him. If he is so lame and the music is so lame but u can't stop being deeply involved in him and the music what's that say about u? Either u are incredibly lame yourself or u are just a top-rate hater hating for hating sake. Why don't u find another hobby if it is all so damn pathetic?

Oh, man. I watched an hour of a show I HATE to see 3 minutes of Prince. disbelief
I wish I'da known what time he was to perform it.
Oh, well. Its okay because I really, really liked it. I mean, it was tight!
I just need to see it again because I didn't catch all the lyrics.

OMG - right? I mean...I love Hugh Laurie...so that part was fine. But then, they got that NPR enviro guy on there and I spent the next 10 minutes yelling at my TV, "EFFA SUBARU! PUT PRINCE ON! mad " lol

Yup, nice performance. But way too short.

That was the Horn Section of Groupo Fantasma (sp?). Maceo's on tour, so my guess is that Greg & the rest of the guys are with him.

Was it? Thanks - I was wondering about that. cool

I thought it was hilarious the way Prince jumped off to the side when Jay approached him after the performance. Like Jay had kooties or something.
Jay reached out to touch him and Prince was outta there. Good thing Jay didn't chase him around, with a microphone, trying to get him to talk about himself and answer questions. HA!

I didn't catch the guys name, that was in the cowboy hat, but I really respected he and Jay's conversation about solar water and growing food...I thought that was the mentality that needs to be on the political table.

Well I guess I was right about it being a new song.

I loved it, even though I would've loved 2 have more.

Funky. Loved the clavinet part, and the guitar was TIGHT.

The sound was near perfect, and Prince's voice was in TOP form.

Same old ORG, though... Folks just can't seem 2 dig the Funk 'round here.

Either that, or people have just become spoiled and over saturated... dunno.

I'm excited about the new album.

Peace.

...and another thing...

When a new song is that short, one MUST listen 2 it a few times.

U will like this song/performance with the second listen, and even more with the 3rd.

It's exponential.

okay THE COLOR PURPLE/CHURCH set up was not COOL AT ALL.It lends itself to him turning 50 this year WHO KNOWS what that was about, glad to see Ledisi with Prince,if you guys aren't familiar with her check out some of her back ground vocals with RAPHAEL SADDIQ.

I WAS SO EXCITED at first to see Prince on late night TV again, but to come out with a 2 minute performance ! with a new song (like the lyrics after reading them)set to the the tune of GET ON THE BOAT confused is extremely disappointing ! he said nothing about any plans imo was a waste of television time unless he did more songs off camera....OR did a afterparty somewhere....This was the worst quickie ever neutral lol

Shady Pines stuff lol you can't appreciate the racy lyrics razz with all the horns lol

but yes thankfully no TWINZ we went from VEGAS to now PORCH JAMBOREES sad

PS>...from my point of view this song is cool...but not Great or Brilliant...Prince has made this style of funk a million times...it's a little bit boring!

thk god 4 utube..
i really enjoyed seeing this - biggest hugest smile on my face & shivers down spine, canned heat in my feet..
i don't feel the song is exceptional by prince standard - i was hoping 2 hear a new vibe - but i really do heart this song!
love the lyrics, great rock&roll/funky groove, nice band/stage set.
the girls in long dresses kinda worked but i prefer 2 c prince with a sexy harem type thingy going on.
juicy guitar, i could listen 4ever, voice is on top form & swoon! he def moves well
& p is squishy, lickable & funking incredibly boffable as ever.

i am soooo jealous of the coachella crowd. they r gonna get such a great show.

Awesome -- Prince has often tailored his performances on Leno to cater to Jay's love of jazz (the jazzy arrangement of "Dorothy Parker" for example), so even if it's not a new song, it should be a nice twist on a song not often performed live, I would guess.

Hopefully he does more than perform...he's comfortable with Jay and will maybe talk about plans for the year in addition to Coachella? I don't need to hear about the internet crackdown his legal team has been on...I want to know what's next musically.

prince had been doing that arrangement since september 2000, so it wasnt specialy arranged for the show

I didn't mean to suggest that he arranged the song specifically for his performance on Leno, only that he picked it because of Jay's love of jazz.

someone who recorded it should try to transcribe as much of the lyrics as possible.. i heard some interesting things

It went something like this:

you don't really know me
stop taking pictures of me
if you really love me
you'll give me what i need
turn me loose!

blah blah blah blah blah blah
i'm so great you're not
blah blah blah blah blah blah
i need complete control
turn me loose!

Maybe there was even a line about a "chain" around a "waist."

I bet Prince is reading the org right now getting upset that we don't like this new "masterpiece." He's like Mary Sharon, when she stayed up all night to think of a response, and when she blurted it out, it was pathetic. smile

-----
These lyrics are from your imagination. The song is about getting some booty. Look around you can find the performance and listen again.

I like Prince's old music and want him to release his vault material -- it's the only good music he has left, but he keeps doing these generic performances.

The song is very James Brown-esque, and personally I think it's cool as hell.

I notice the guitar solo ironically sounds very similar to that guitar solo he did when way back in the day when he was on stage with James Brown and Michael Jackson.

I could be wrong, but could that solo be him getting his second chance at jamming with James Brown?

I liked it a lot.

The last 2 new songs I've heard from him are better than anything on "Planet Earth". If this one and PFUNK are any indication, I'll be looking forward to the new record.
